Merome - The War - Part 1
Mitch looked back at his dad and mom, who were arguing about him and his loves relationship.
"I DONT CARE IF THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!!" Screamed his dad "THEY'RE FROM DIFFERENT TROOPS, THEY CAN'T LOVE EACH OTHER!!!
"Sweetheart, you're overreacting. They're in love! You can't hold back powerful emotions." His mom scolded, picking up his dads hand and giving it a quick pat.
His dad ripped his hand away, scowling. "I am not. He will not see this... JEROME person again!"
Mitch gasped under his breath. Never seeing Jerome again? He wouldn't be able to live.
That's it, he thought. He grabbed the hood of his hoodie with determination and flung it over his head, hiding his face. On light feet, he scurried past the kitchen, where his parents were.
He rested one hand on the door knob, then forced it open, determined to meet Jerome.
-Jerome's POV-
My parents were arguing about me and Mitch once again. I don't give a crap about what other people say, I love that Canadian.
It's true, we're from different troops. He's from the Canadian, I'm from the American. It doesn't help that our families are in a feud anyway. They won't even tell us what it's about, either.
When I first met Mitch, I was like everyone else. Cautious. Slightly afraid.
When we met was in the middle of a war. He had come over to our side to get some water, but it was obvious he didn't want to. He was jittery and nervous, and when he bumped into me, he freaked out. I took pity and helped him get the water, never letting my guard down.
He, meanwhile, reminded me of a helpless kitten. Sad, afraid and alone. I could tell from the first moment he hated this stupid rivalry as much as I did, yet we didn't have a say in it. We were thrust in.
After I helped him get the water, we stood at the crossover line of our two countries staring at each other for a while. I shoved my bacca hat down my face and was about to walk away when he grabbed my elbow. I looked back, wearing a frown. "What?" I asked.
"Help me..." He whimpered. I stared at him for a while. What did he mean?
"Help you how? I already helped you get water!" I was a bit angry that he had the nerve to ask for MORE help!
"Help me get away..." He whispered. Before I could ask him what he meant, his face twisted in pain. He grabbed his arm, where an arrow had lodged its way in pretty deep.
"GET OVER HERE!" A voice hollered, and both of us looked back to see a middle aged man, Mitch's dad, with the light of fire burning in his eyes.
Mitch's mouth fell open, and a look of terror danced across his lips. He looked back at me, his face frozen in the look of terror.
"Thanks for the help." He murmured and did the all time unexpected. He reached out and gave me a firm kiss on the lips. I stood there, dumbfounded. As soon as he pulled away, I leaned in to kiss back, but he was gone. I opened my eyes just in time to see him be punched in the side of the face by his dad.
A hand reached out and grabbed my arm, pulling me back into the midst of the battle that we had left for a little time.
The time I met Mitchell Hughes. A two-hour time limit. Enough for him to steal my heart.
So, yeah, we fell in love from that point on. Neither of us could help it, though both of our troops try their best to. They want us, as a thing, dead. No longer. Gone.
But neither of us let it happen.
Listening to them fighting, I decided I needed to talk to Mitch and get a load off. I shoved my bacca hat down my face and sneaked to the door, and out it, running to our secret place...
----------------------------
I crept up on Mitch, who sat with his feet dangling over the ledge. I also got ready to grab his head or his hoodie (whatever was closest) if he fell.
"BOO!"
"AGH!" Mitch let out a high pitched scream and almost toppled off the cliff, but I wouldn't let it happen. I grabbed his hand and used all my strength to pull him up.
As soon as he was sitting comfortably on the flat land again, I dove in, tackling me with an insane hug.
"I missed you..." He whimpered. I hugged him back, rubbing comforting circles on his back.
"I missed you too...oh, that reminds me, show me." I commanded, and Mitch nodded solemnly. He raised his sleeve to reveal a few deep, barely crusted over scars.
I winced at them, but he wasn't done. He turned around and lifted the back of his shirt, revealing a large gash that was still pouring over.
"My god..." I murmured, tracing it with my thumb. I wiped the blood on his checkered hoodie. I mean, it's red anyway! "He must have been pretty bad this week..."
Mitch nodded. I could see tears brimming at the corners of his eyes, so I quickly pulled him into a tight hug. I could feel his heavy sobs into my back, and I continued to rub his back in comforting motions.
His sobs seized and he pulled back, wiping his sleeve to his eyes. "Sorry..." He whimpered. "Lost it for a sec..."
I shook my head. "Don't worry about it. I love you..."
"I love you too." Our lips met, and like usual, sparks flew. His lips are gentle and light, perfectly fitting into mine.
I pulled him closer until our bodies were pressed tightly. I felt him smile into the kiss as he sat on my lap, and I did the same.
Finally, we pulled away, needing air. He smiled and we pressed out foreheads together.
---------
We sat at the edge of the cliff, talking, ignoring the fact that our parents were going to kill us when we got home. All that matter was us, then and there.
Mitch looked down at his watch and scowled. "6:30..." He muttered distastefully. "I gotta go, or I'm in so much trouble." He let out a tiny chuckle. "Well, MORE trouble."
I sighed and took his hand giving it a comforting kiss. He got up, along with I. We began to walk towards the woods, hand in hand.
When we got to the crossing, we looked at each other each other sadly. We both knew the drill. One person goes one way, the other goes the second way.
I gave his hand a comforting squeeze, and he smiled sadly.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you t-" he was cut off. His eyes widened and his mouth went slack. I stared at him in a panic. "What's wrong, Mitch?!"
Without a warning, he fell forward and into my arms. I caught him under the arms, his head digging into my stomach.
"MITCH!" I cried out, setting him up to see a lifeless face. His eyes were shut tight, his mouth open in a limp manor. "What's wrong?! What happen-" I was cut off when I saw his back. A long, sleek arrow stuck out the back of it, blood pouring out from the sides of the wound. I gasped and looked up, seeing the man I hated...
"Let go of him." Snarled Mitch's father.
"You...you hurt him!" I said slowly. I propped up Mitch, carefully examining the wound. Gently, I pulled the arrow out, causing a sickening sucking noise and Mitch to give a little gasp of pain. His body flinched a little, but other than that there was no responsive movement,
"HE DESERVED IT!!!" Howled that bitch of a dad. I was barely paying attention though. I scooped Mitch up and into my arms, rocking gently.
"MITCH!! OH, sweetheart!!!" Came a cry of alarm. I looked up to see Mitch's mom, Suzy (idk...I was at a lose for names...) running towards us. She dropped to our knees in from of us, and I carefully showed her the wound. She sucked in her breath when she saw it.
"Oh my god...how did he get it?" You see, this is what I like about Suzy. She doesn't jump to conclusion and say I hurt him like everyone else. She actually processes the fact of my love for Mitch ; the fact I would never, ever hurt him. She's unlike the others, she supports us, and she's kept us going most of the time. She even allows me to stay over when Mitch's dad is out of town, which is quite a lot.
I stabbed an accusing finger towards Mitch's dad, who was just smirking. "Yeah, I shot him. So what?" He chuckled.
Suzy stuttered "S-So what?!?! YOU JUST SHOT OUR BABY!"
"He's not our baby anymore, Suzanne! He's left us! He fell in love with an American! He's...he's turned."
Suddenly, to my horror, Suzy got up and strode over to Mitch's dad. She got up in his face, then hissed just loud enough for us to hear "Your wrong, David. He's still our little boy no matter what. And what he did wasn't betrayal ; it was love."
By now, many of our two troops had gathered. Some people were murmuring about how someone had actually gotten severely hurt over this ; I even heard a few people mutter about us being together, fine, just no more drama.
"Jerome, sweetie..." I heard a voice coo, and I looked back to find my own mother, looking me over with concerned eyes. "Come on...lets go..."
"No!" I cried, tears welling up in my eyes. I hugged my beloved Canadian closer to my chest. "I can't leave him, mom! I just can't!"
My mom eyed Mitch's dad suspiciously, who was now swinging the sword around in a crazy manor. I hugged Mitch even closer ; if that was even possible.
"Mom..." I begged with my eyes shining "I can't leave..."
She sighed, then beckoned for Suzy to come closer. Mitch's mom quickly scurried over, and they whispered quietly to each other. After a few moment, they gave each other a confident nod.
"Jerome..." Mom murmured, dropping to her knees in front of me. She cupped her hands around my ear, then leaned her mouth in.
"Your coming back later to check on Mitch, his mother agreed. Alright? Now lets go."
I sighed, then leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Mitch's forehead. I then lowered myself farther was I was level with his ear.
"I-I love you." I whispered, tears and sobs tugging wildly at my throat. I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder, and turned around to see Suzanne staring sadly down at me. She opened up her hands, and I gently placed Mitch in her grasp.
"I'll be back." I murmured, and she nodded understandingly. I tugged my bacca hat over my eyes, then got up. Everyone's eyes burned holes in the back of my head as I walked - like I care. My only thought was Mitch.
He's going to be okay, right?
He's going to survive.
My mom held out her hand, and I took it slowly. She gently pulled me behind her as we walked back to the division line.
Before we disappeared into the forest, I turned around, looked at Mitch and whispered "I'll be back. I promise."
