Chapter 34
What?
I glanced back at the words on my phone screen.
Why?
Without hesitation I, rushed into my room to look in the mirror- only to find that my roommate, one of the makeup artists- Minjun unnie, was already asleep.
I carefully tiptoed I to the bathroom, shut the door and turned on the light.
Taken aback by the horror that was my reflection I might a light "Eugh" sound of disgust to myself.
Scruffy hair, Chanel bags under my eyes, oily skin, chapped lips and dull clothes that don't fit well.
I looked like a greasy corpse. Perfect.
I messaged Jimin-
When?
Just as I was about to grab some skin toner and moisturiser, he replied- instantly.
GIVE ME SOME FUCKING TIME GOSH, JIMIN.
My phone screen showed the two words
'Now, please.'
I quietly let out a noise of frustration and curled my fingers into fists.
I NEEDED TIME.
After quickly wiping my face with my skin toner, fluffing my hair and spraying some perfume, I exited the room.
I made my way down the corridor, trying to hurry but still pausing to examine the decorative artwork on the walls.
Elevator or staircase?
I debated back and forth in my head.
I took the elevator.
The staircase would have made me even more flustered than I already was.
Upon entering the elevator, I glanced at my reflection one more.
This is it.
Yup.
Not gonna get any better, thank God it's going to be dark up there.
I gently pressed the button with '8' engraved into it. I had to go 3 floors up and then one flight of stairs for the terrace.
I tugged on the bottom of my shirt and fixed the sleeves of my cardigan.
The infamous 'ding' sounded, indicating that I'd arrived on my requested floor- as well as indicating my next stage of nervousness.
I anxiously inched out of the metal box and made my way to the staircase. The steps were white- well not anymore, they'd yellowed a little from sunlight and there were a series of shoe prints and scuff marks scattered across each one.
Slowly I made my way up the steps, with each advancement my feet felt heavier and heavier.
TY GRAVITY.
I looked up, at the top of the staircase was a large door with a light blue metal frame and a large window- from which I could see nothing out of apart from the night sky.
Once on the terrace, I looked around, the rooftop had a small open air cafe on one side and a few benches on the other side- the cafe was empty but there was an employee behind the till.
There were white fairy lights wrapped around the cafe's columns- the 'ceiling' of the cafe was some sort of wooden structure hidden behind vines and flowers- there were fairy lights tangled up there too.
I took it all in and made my way to a seat on the edge of the cafe.
Jimin was no where to be found.
[BTW I'm cycling at the gym rn as I type because I'm short on time this week hahaha help me]
My phone vibrated to life as I was holding it, I hesitated as I read the message-
You look great btw haha :))
I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
Thanks Jimin.
Wait? Did that mean that he could see me? I frantically looked around the cafe- no one was there but the young lady behind the counter, drying the dishes.
I squinted my eyes and looked at the other side of the terrace, the side that was engulfed in darkness and had a few benches visible.
I noticed a dark figure move a little.
He messaged me again:
Well come over then, don't just stare at me as you drool :D
Sitting in the dark? Great, I he wouldn't be able to see my horrid state.
Slowly, I made my way over to the silhouette.
What if it wasn't him?
"Hey." The silhouette softly said as I got closer.
That was him, that's his voice. I was certain.
HAHA WHAT IF IT WAS THE JANITOR OR SOMETHING
"Can I hug you?" He asked, hesitant.
"Only if your name is Park Jimin and you're not from 15&" I mumbled then grinned.
"Huh?"
"Nothing, just hug me you PABO."
We stepped closer to each other and closed the cold gap between us.
I took in his scent. Gosh I'd missed the way he smelled. I could tell that he had just showered, I could smell his shampoo, and I could smell a hint of mint on his breath.
He always brushes his teeth after he showers.
He squeezed my waist tighter.
"I missed you." He whispered.
"I missed you too." I smiled.
"Have you been well? Have you been sleeping and eating enough? Has anyone been bothering you?" he shot out the questions immediately after he pulled away.
"Yes! I'm completely fine Jimin!" I chuckled at how concerned he seemed.
"Good." He said under his breath before hugging me again.
I took in his warmth.
It was chilly up there, and just like during our time apart- I wanted to feel his warmth more than ever. I wish I could bottle it up and carry it around with me whenever Jimin had to go away.
"Let's sit at the cafe, I want to give you something." He slid his hand I to mine and started walking towards the cafe tables.
"Wait why'd you make me go all the way over to the dark side of the terrace then!!?" I whined.
"I thought it would make me more mysterious and thrilling..." He sulked.
We sat down at a table in the far corner, away from the till.
I examined Jimin's face, he seemed a bit nervous.
His hands fiddled about in his jumper pocket.
"I bought this for you ages ago, but I couldn't see you before I left... So I couldn't give it to you." He pulled out a small rectangular box, it was a navy box but it was nothing fancy.
"Here, I hope you like it." He nervously smiled as he opened the box to reveal a bracelet.
The item had a small silver chain with a azure blue triangular stone in the middle- on either side of the stone there was a navy bead each.
"Blue suits you." He stated.
"Plus it's my favourite colour ^^'" he quietly added.
It was a beautiful bracelet, it was nothing fancy but it didn't fall short of anything either.
I made sure to make eye contact as I spoke, "Thank you Jimin. You really didn't have to get me anything... It's really pretty."
"Want me to put it on for you?"
I nodded and smiled in response.
He carefully unhooked the bracelet and took it out of its box.
I reached out my right hand, face up.
He fumbled around with its hook for a moment, struggling like a child.
"Need any help?" I joked as I raised an eyebrow.
"No I should be- AHA see." He said after finally succeeding.
I rolled my eyes and laughed at him.
"Here." He said as he put the bracelet on me, his fingers lightly resting on my wrist as he did.
It was a really strange sensation, wrists are really sensitive, you know?
It almost ticked, it was pleasant though.
"Do you really like it?" He asked, smiling.
"Yes! Of course it's so cute, and I do love the blue stone in the middle... Even if you chose blue because you like blue..."
He grinned at my comment and nodded.
I love it when he smiles and his eyes disappear.
So. Cute.
"Hey, can I touch your hair again?" I quietly asked.
"Of course of course yes go for it" He immediately nodded and tilted his head towards me.
His hair was so soft, It's amazing how it could undergo so many colour changes but maintain it's silky texture and shine.
I brushed his hair through my fingers, then I brushed his fringe back.
He grabbed my hand and pulled it away from him for a moment
"No no, this is how you do it-" He said as he brushed his hair back- that classic move that Jimin does on stage every fucking time. Targeting girls everywhere.
Yikes he looked so hot when he did that. Haha Jimin nO stOP.
Send help.
"Okay okay I get the memo, can I resume please? ^^" I sweetly asked as I reached my hand out again, trying to not sound like I had just melted.
It was honestly like petting a cat, his hair was soft and he was almost purring- that's how happy he seemed.
"Don't let anyone else play with your hair okay?" I joked.
"What about the coordi noonas?" He sulked.
"No, I'll do your make-up and hair :P"
We were interrupted by the young woman working at the cafe. Her name tag read Isabelle.
"Uhm hi, sorry to interrupt, the kitchen is closing in a couple minutes, I thought I'd let you know... Do you guys need anything?" She said in a sweet tone, which actually sounded fake but you know she's doing her job so I'm not complaining.
I was just about to open my mouth to respond when Jimin shushed me with his finger.
"I got this."
He paused to think for a moment, then responded.
"No, we're fine thank you. Have a good niiiight." Proudly, he grinned at his success.
The waiter nodded and left.
"He's so fucking cute when he speaks English. Omg." I mumbled to myself.
"Wait did you say something?" Jimin said as he turned.
"Oh no nothing I just said that you looked good with your hair brushed back."
"Oh... I know, thank you." He smirked and stared back.
He lifted his arm and brushed his hair back again, then grinned at me.
"Ya..." I nudged him.
"How's my English, pretty good ay? I'm almost fluent now." He said while rocking his head side to side.
"Well, you had a good teacher." I said smugly.
"Yeah... She's the best." He reached for my hand again.
I took a moment and looked around me, the dark sky, the fairy lights, his face, our hands, my bracelet, the cool breeze the bright moon.
I took it all in.
"Let's stay up here." I said, half serious- half joking, but more than half hopeful.
"I want to, but we can't and we have a schedule tomorrow... Let's just stay for another half hour or so, then we'll go to sleep, ok?" He reassured me.
I glanced at the time, it was 12:23 now.
"Okay." I said, trying to not sound too disappointed.
We sat on the bench from then on, it was darker and calmer, we didn't say much, we just side by side and hand in hand.
Watching the little dancing lights scattered over the cafe as if they were stars in the night sky.
"You know... I wanted to give you something else today, but I'm not so sure about it now..." He hesitantly said.
"Really? What was it?" I asked, curious and slightly scared.
"I'll tell you when I have the opportunity to give it you." He said dully.
"What's wrong with now?"
"I'm nervous." He blurted out.
I didn't ask any further questions because I was nervous too.
I was nervous about finding out what it was he wanted to give- and about the fact that it made him nervous, which made me even more nervous.
He squeezed my hand, "Another time, I promise." He said as he brushed his thumb over my hand, making little circular motions- almost tickling me.
After a while we had to get back, which I hated.
I was so happy, it was like a dream.
Jimin taught me that you don't have to be asleep to dream.
It was a perfect night.
But nay, all good things must come to an end.
We slowly made our way back to the staircase, both of us did everything we could to prolong our goodbye, but no matter how much time we wasted with our "Oh I forgot to mention"s and our "By the way about"s, it wasn't long enough.
The elevator chimed as we reached Jimin's floor- well, Bangtan's floor, his floor was one floor above mine. He turned and stood parallel to me.
"Night angel." He smiled, leaned in, and planted a soft kiss on my forehead.
Just as he was about to leave I grabbed his arm.
"Jimin-" I called out.
"Mhmm?" He raised an eyebrow, confused.
"I need to tell you one more thing." I whispered as a motioned him to come closer.
Slowly, he complied.
I leaned in and whispered in his ear-
"Thank you." I smiled to myself then quickly kissed him on the cheek.
As cliche as it sounds, it felt like a little spark against my lips- it tickled a little but I thoroughly enjoyed it, now I understood why Jimin always did it.
I had clearly taken him by surprise, when I'd moved back to a safer distance away from his face- he was still wide eyed; mouth (slightly) open.
His face remained that way for a moment or two.
He finally returned back to life and smiled goofily.
"You're welcome... Goodnight." He said as he walked out of the elevator.
I pressed my floor and waited for the doors to close.
I watched him walk down the corridor towards his room. I examined his outline, his clothes and how they wrapped around him, the way his jeans fit him.
He looked spectacular from the back too.
Just as the doors were closing, he came to a halt before reaching his door.
He slowly lifted his hand up, and touched it to his cheek.
The elevator door closed.
I made my way back to my room. The lights were still closed, but my roommate was no longer in deep slumber. I had woken her up upon entry.
"Why were you out so late?" She asked, still hazy.
"I didn't feel too good so I went for some fresh air." I lied, trying to sound sick.
"Oh, feel better soon... I'm going back to sleep."
Just before turning off the light by the nightstand she paused for a moment-
"Oh, uh... what's his name... uh pale face-" she mumbled to herself.
"What?" I said, dumbfounded.
"Yoongi! Yoongi. He came and asked for you earlier." She said as she pointed at me and waved her hand up and down.
"Oh, I'll talk to him tomorrow, it was probably translations or something."
I prepared myself for sleep, just as my phone vibrated for the last time that night.
Hopeful, I looked at the screen.
But it wasn't Jimin.
It was Yoongi.
