Kindergarten
"I want you to be a good girl today, Delilah."
"Daddy, I don't want to go to kindergarten. What if my teacher is scary?"
"Oh honey, she's not scary! I'm sure she'll be just as nice as Ms. Fisher; your preschool teacher."
"I don't know about that!" Delilah widens her eyes.
*Chuckles*
"Well I'm pretty positive you'll love her."
Delilah sighs.
"We'll see, daddy!"
The whole drive to school, Delilah nervously played with her fingers. Delilah was only four years old, but she was constantly filled with worry. Her father has always thought it was due to her traumatic entrance into this world.
She would be fine one minute and the next she's in full blown tears. Delilah also has horrible separation anxiety, and one of her biggest fear is losing her father.
Most nights she sleeps in bed with him just so she knows he's okay.
Her fear this morning was Kindergarten.
Not knowing how many kids she would know in her class. Not knowing if she would like her teacher, or if her teacher would like her.
Delilah was going over many different situations in her little mind.
Suddenly she felt the car stop, and she snapped from her thoughts.
"We're here, Princess!" Her father turned and gave her a smile.
"Aw, Delilah.. why do you look so sad? You're going to have so much fun! I wish I were the one that gets to go to kindergarten!"
"Well how bout you go and I stay here til you're done."
*Chuckles*
"Nice try, little one. I'm too old for kindergarten!"
"Well I'm too little!" She pouts.
"You're almost five! You're a big girl." He smiles.
"Now come on. I'll pick you up after school and we'll go out to eat anywhere you want!"
"Olive Garden?" She smiles.
"If that's what you want!" He laughs.
"I like the bread!"
"Ooooh! Me too! Nice choice!"
"Thanks!"
"Haha, come on, kiddo."
"Okay, daddy. Carry me!" Delilah lifts her arms.
"Oh you're such a princess!" He chuckles.
**
The sound of kids laughter, the sound of women's heels clicking on the ground. The smell of flowers coming from the dozens of bouquets children are giving to their teachers.
The smell of flowers has always been a scent Delilah loves, yet despises. She's not really sure why, but it makes her feel sad in a way.
"Wow! Look at this awesome room! Delilah, you are one lucky little girl!"
"I don't know anyone, daddy.." Delilah looks up to him with a pout.
"Honey, you'll make knew friends."
Delilah stayed close to her father as he kneeled beside her.
"I'm scared."
"Don't be scared." He smiles and kisses her forehead.
He then took her hand and stood up.
"Let's go meet your teacher."
Delilah looked down with such saddens in her little face.
"Well who do we have here?" A beautiful young woman smiled and got down to the child's level.
"My name.. my name is Delilah Grace Huston.. this is my daddy." Delilah places her cheek on his warm hand.
The young woman smiled and said, "Well hello Delilah and daddy! I'm Ms. Jessica."
"Hello!" He smiled as his daughter's teacher stood in front of him.
"It's very nice to meet you. I'm Daniel Huston."
