20. "𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐/𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐?".

We finally made it—to the end. Your ending holds some big ass weight with ya' readers; if they don't like your ending, they'll most likely hit you with a side curve and say they don't like your work. So, you can see how fundamental an ending can be to your story; that's why I'm here to give you a few type of endings as well as some ways to not fuck them up.

ENDINGS

WAIT, WHAT?
This type of ending is real brief and almost inconclusive; pretty much it doesn't lead to a firm conclusion and the loose ends in the story aren't tightened—they stay loose. This ending leaves the answers, and the links between them, to the reader, whose imagination fills in what is missing. These endings are usually used when there is a plan of a sequel afterwards.

The Wait, What?" ending cannot be used all the time though.
You use it when: You have a short story & the plot isn't too complex—the more drama you have and things you have going on, the more loose ends you'll have to work with. The less you have to end, the better honestly.

TOO REAL
The "Too Real" ending is more clear-cut than the "Wait, What?" ending; you get a precise and distinct idea on what will happen to the characters and where the story stands and ends, but the ending happens is naturally and is realistic. The ending is essentially the same as what's happened all along, just slightly more definite.

SURPRISE, MOTHAFUCKA'!
The surprise, or twist, ending is where the reader does not the expect shit that happens in the end, and honestly that's the whole point.

For a surprise ending:
Please make sure the surprise actually makes sense. It's honestly easy to make a surprise ending but it's even easier to fuck one up too. Make sure the surprise is supported by your story and not some shit you just wanted to throw out there to fuck everybody up. The way Wattpad set up, you'll get cussed out about that.

BREAK IT DOWN, SHIT USE AN EPILOGUE
"Breaking it down" in the literary world has its' own word; denouement. In both novels and short stories, this is a separate section that occurs right after the climax. It explains what happened to the major characters after the result of the climax.

An epilogue is something like a denouement, but instead of explaining what happened, you're more-so describing the ending with your characters.

For an denouement; the "breakdown", you should:
Make sure your denouement matches with your story. When I say "match", I mean the size of the two. If you have a short story, you'll probably only need a few paragraphs of explaining the ending after the climax since you didn't have that much plot or room within the story, but if you've written a large novel and left it hanging at the climax, you'd have to have a bigger section devoted to explaining the fate of your characters.

Don't leave out any details. Do not leave any loose ends; explain everything. If you had twelve characters, you better tell everybody what the hell happened to them twelve characters.

For an epilogue:
Again, make sure the epilogue matches the size of your story. Same shit as the denouement.
