noun
plural noun: synopses
1.
a brief summary or general survey of something, like a fucking BOOK for instance.

I put the definitions up there cause some of the people on this app/website don't seem to know what they ("they" being descriptions) are since every time I think I see a bomb ass book with its tags, its title and cover, I click on it and see the description box blanker than a mothafucka', or some slick asses put these same weak ass goddamn excuses.

"Read inside to find out."

"Description inside."

"I'on know how to write a description or whatever, but just read!"

The book description is your lead in, it's your chance to hook the reader(s) and get them to look behind the cover and satisfy their curiosity on your story. If you don't put a description/synopsis, you're basically saying your book is nothing, and on God, I'm so tired of seeing these bomb ass covers, and these tags that go me interested, and then there's no description, it's like "what the fuck is going on?"

I get it though. To some people, it's hard to create a descriptionโ€”you're taking a book, filled with all type of drama, romance, mystery (whatever your book is about) that'll hit you from left to right, that'll have over 20,000 words (I'm hoping) and you have to sum it down to several paragraphs.

I'mma help y'all out; that's why I took the time to write this.

BUILDING A
DESCRIPTION

What is your book about? From beginning to end, or beginning all the way to "to be continued", what is the book about?

Example: Karen is a young, naive, but zealous adult, born and raised in Miami. She's ready to leave Miami and go to college in Tampa in the fall because she's tired of her life. On the campus of her new school, she meets Derekโ€”a boy she'll fall in love with, and who'll she have plenty of drama withโ€”Anna, a soon-to-be-friend who will stab her in the back by trying to mess with Derek and trying to sabotage their relationship, and Kassie, a girl who'll be her best friend. After finding out about Anna and putting a stop to her shenanigans, Derek and Karen's love grows stronger and they decide to live happily ever after.

Now think of the most important parts of your book, (meetings, characters, pasts):

(1) Karen is a young, naive, and zealous adult, born and raised in Miami,

(2) She's tired of her life,

(3) Ready to go to college in Tampa in the fall,

(4) On the campus of her new school, falls in love with Derek,

(5) A soon-to-be-friend who will stab her in the back by trying to mess with Derek,

(6) After finding out about Anna and putting a stop to her shenanigans, Derek and Karen's love grows stronger and they decide to live happily ever after,

What could you put, switch and add into the synopsis to pique the reader(s)' interests yet still not reveal the whole plot?

Rough Draft
Karen is a young, naive and zealous adult, born and raised in Miami, tired of her life in her hometown, and ready to go to College in Tampa. On the campus of her new school, she meets and falls in love with Derek. Even though the their relationship seems to be going well, drama and problems are sure to come their way? Will the two be able to make it? Or will the drama be too much for them to handle?

Final Draft
Young, naive but zealous eighteen-year-old Karen Jackson, born and raised in Miami, Florida, has finally captured the opportunity of all time. Tired of her simple, and non-exciting life, she can't help but be excited to leave her hometown behind and head for Tampa where she'll be attending the University of South Florida.

On campus, Karen immediately makes the acquaintance of Derek Jones, a handsome, suave football player with all the right words to say. What starts off as a flirty friendship, quickly develops into something much more. Even though their relationship seems to be going well, drama and problems are sure to come, and they lurk from every corner. Will the two be able to make it? Or will the drama be too much for them to handle?

AUTHOR'S
NOTE

This is just an example, hopefully I made it a little easier for some people, and you were able to get a grasp of descriptions. Let me know how y'all feel about some people's descriptions on here, and ask me some questions in the comment section.
