-3rd Person POV-

"I want to go do something," Alexa sighs. Thomas looked up at her, smiling softly.

"Have anything in mind, Love?" The two look at each other after she shrugs. Her dark brown eyes look at Thomas' soft brown ones and he returns her gaze. "Movie?" He offers, smirking a little bit. She's lounged across the couch as he stands behind her, halfway between the kitchen and the bedroom, unsure if he should sleep or make food. Now he leans against the wall, folding his arms as she tilts her head so far she's basically looking at him upside down. Her brown hair falls in gorgeous waves and Thomas is familiar with the sensation of his fingers moving through her dark strands that he can almost feel it.

"Nothing Good is out," Alexa huffs, her lips blowing out in a slight pout. Thomas was always over aware of all her features, and still is. No matter how many time she sees them he never gets used to how beautiful she is.

"Dinner?"

Alexa raises an eyebrow, a soft smile on her lips. Despite her implode sass, she would hate to have Thomas think she was actually angry. She's wearing sweats and a sweatshirt with her hair in a messy bun and she's not in the mood to be around people and eat a bunch of food or sitting still in general. "Not in the mood," she replies simply, instead of rattling off the entire list growing in her mind. Thomas  chuckles.

He sighs through his nose as she rolls into a standing position. "I don't know what then," he resigns. Those soft smiles never leave either Alexa or Thomas' mouths. She's just enough shorter than Thomas that she has to go on her tiptoes a bit to kiss him and he loves it. Her hair falls down her back and her feet pad softly as she makes her way to him.

She slumps against Thomas when she reaches her destination, planting her feet as she stands right in front of him. He chuckles, wrapping his arms around her waist and his chin atop her head, tilting his head back just a bit. She nestles into him and he smiles wider, out of her view.

"Why don't we just take a walk? I'll put a T-shirt and jeans on and it'll just be you and me. Walking. No light or people or pressures. Just us."

"A long walk through the moonlight?" Thomas paraphrases humor laced in his voice.

Laughing a bit, Thomas shakes his head. "I'm a manly man. Manly men don't like to walk in the cold at night time ew what?"

"Right! Your manhood. Forgot you still had that," Alexa teases, interlacing their hands as she leans back so their eyes meet. They're both messing around at this point. Thomas widens his mouth in faux hurt and Alexa laughs harder.

Thomas grinned, meeting her teasing look. "I'd love a good walk." So that's what they did. She got dressed, throwing her hair in a ponytail and settling on that. The pair left their house, him locking up. He took her hand in his and they began walking.

Nowhere in mind really. Just around. Just talking. About everything. About nothing. It was chill and low expectation and peaceful and -

Someone was crying.

Alexa looked to the side, pulling Thomas to a halt. Her face was twisted in worried surprise and Thomas noticed 5e expression, following her gaze. When he heard it, his eyes shot wide and he dropped her hand, moving into the little bush circle the crying was coming from.

"Hey... Hello." His voice was so soft and warm that Alexa stepped up to see who he was talking to. Her eyes shot even wider. It was a girl. A young girl. The girl looked like a middle of the couple, honestly. Thomas' blonde-brown hair, which was even similarly adorably messy. Alexa's dark brown eyes. Not light and a rich almost gold like Thomas', but a deep, dark brown. Big, huge, brown puppy dog eyes. She looked about eight or nine.

"Hi, sweetheart," Alexa cooed, offering a friendly smile. Seeing the female relaxed the younger girl. Enough, apparently, to leave her frozen stuff state and run at Alexa, burying her face in The older woman' shirt. Alexa looked at Thomas in shock and he gave her a look like 'help her!' Bending down, the female took the child in her arms, holding her tight while also gently rubbing her back. Her mom had taught her how to be strong and solid without loosing the softeners in one's touch. The mother's hug. "What's your name, dear?"

"A-Liy-ya-a," the girl stuttered. Alexa noted she was shaking, her skin cold to the touch. But the fear in her eyes is what really showed the cause of her shaking. Goosebumps rose on Alexa's arm and she knew even before she looked at Thomas.

She had to help her.

Aliya was little and innocent and in need of help.

"Where's your family?" Alexa asked softly, laying her cheek on top of Aliya's head.

Shaking a little more as the girl started crying - Alexa pulled her in more - Aliya managed out a, "I d-don't know-oh."

"Do you want us to help you find them?" Thomas asked, kneeling next to the two females. The girl nodded. Alexis barely moved her hands to hold her arms out for Aliya when the girl raced into her embrace, burying her face in Alexa's chest. Alexa shot Thomas a worried look then picked her up. They all immediately headed home.

-

It took a while, but Aliya got comfortable in the strange home. The couple worked around schedules in order to take care of her and look for her real parents and still go to work and school - in Alexa's case at least - and such.

There were moments of difficulty and stress and extreme worry and emotional pain and sadness. Together, though, Alexa and Thomas seemed to overcome anything.

One night Liya - as she said her friends called her - couldn't sleep. She was crying and screaming for her mommy. A bad dream had woken her up and even after Alexa got her calmed down, she could not get the young girl back to sleep. So, Alexa took out her guitar and strummed and sang and soothed the little girl.

Another night, Liya couldnt get to sleep again. Just a simple case of insomnia, in the beginning when she wasn't comfrtable in the new house. Thjoams stayed up with her and acted out stories he made up off the top of his head.

If Liya was sad, they'd put on a movie or have a sudden dance party or tell jokes. Liya never took too long to feel better.

After an entire month of keeping the girl light hearted, safe, and cared for, Alexa was about ready to give up. She was getting used to Liya living with them. Having to deal with such a young child. Such a little girl. She was getting used to the extra financial hiccups and the time skip arounds and work throughs. It would seem wrong for Liya to be gone now...

"We have to give her back eventually," Thomas would remind her every once in a while when he could feel Alexa getting really familiar and attached to Liya.

"I know," Alexa would state absentmindedly, tucking a piece of lose hair out of Liya's face as she slept.

"Mummy...." Liya murmured, pulling Alexa's hand close as she slept. Alexa's face tightened as her chest flared with pain. With wanting.

This was not her daughter though. And as much as she'd miss Liya, she couldn't imagine how her real parents were thinking.

Thomas was starting to lose hope though, too. Just as Alexa was. And Liya seemed to have started the grief cycle, coming to terms with losing her real parents and now having these new ones.

Alexa was far too young, though. MAYBE Thomas could have had her, being four years older, but not ethically. They were just far too young.

So when the day came that they finally did find the missing poster for Liya, they didn't hesitate, they called it, explained the situation, and set up a location to drop Liya off with her real family.

It happened so fast. Like a blur. One second Liya was theirs and in their home and the next she squirmed in the backseat with a wide, unbelieving, dazed grin in her face, awaiting to greet her parents again.

The meeting was heart wrenching. Truly beautiful. Her mother couldn't stop thanking the young couple. And they couldn't stop her enough. It was when Liya's parents offered to have them babysit Liya every once in a while - it had been a busy day when Liya had wandered off and her parents had lost sight of her, and they didn't want to over pack themselves and out their daughter in danger ever again - and offered them lunch to explain it all and plan it out and get better acquainted when it all unfolded.

Liya told her parents all about how Alexa and Thomas had so quickly adjusted to lives with the girl. How they'd so easily and simply changed around to fit her into their lives well enough that she'd be comfortable and happy.

"SHE WAS SO NICE MAMA!" Liya was gushing. Alexa and Thomas were horribly red and at this, Alexa simply buried her beautiful face into Thomas' shoulder. He chuckled. "And she's very good at instruments too! She taught me some Christmas songs on the piano. And a song from a movie. With a princess! With long, golden hair and a gorgeous face who lived in a tower with a horrible step mother who wasn't her mother at all and a dragon that couldn't breathe fire or fly and MAMA IT REALLY IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG!" Alexa chuckled.

"Oh really?" Mrs. Anderson (for that was indeed their last name) chuckled, smiling down at her daughter ugh such joy and affection that Alexa's stomach tugged as she wished to understand hat feeling.

"YES!" Liya gushed, nodding very quickly. "And she plays guitar too! And her voice is so pretty!"

"Oh nonsense!" Alexa argued lightly, waving her hand through the air as if to dispel the words and make them as if they'd never been said.

"Not so!" Thomas argued back, looking at his significant other. "You have a gorgeous voice!"

"And you're a drop dead gorgeous, extremely talented actor but you hate when people over compliment you so I keep it to myself," Alexa pointed out with a sickly sweet smile. Mrs. Anderson covered her chortle with a cough.

"Point taken," Thomas mumbled, blushing and looking down then away.

When the whole hang out ended, Alexa and Mrs. Anderson shook hands, gently and smoothly, while Mr. Anderson and Thomas did. The men's handshake was firmer and more aggressive;  Mr. Anderson complimented Thomas on the impressively good grip.

There was a moment's pause then Mrs. Anderson beamed. "You're going to be fantastic parents one day, you two."

They split ways and Alexa was so stunned by her words that she silently stared out the window the entire drive home. When they were almost there, Thomas took her hand. "Are you okay, Love?"

"Yes," she whispered.

Thomas knew immediately though that she was lost in thought and want and dreams of the future. He smiled, taking her hand, which so calmly rested on the arm rest between them. "Soon, Darling."

"Hm?" She hummed, looking over. He smiled.

"One day, when you graduate and we have been together longer and we are ready, I will marry you. And then, after, whenever you are ready, we can have that daughter you seem so much to want."

Alexa went a horribly attractive shade of reddish pink. "Is that so?" She asked, quirking an eyebrow and offering a half smirk.

"Quite," Thomas confirmed, eyes on the road but content smile wide on his face. There was a long pause as he pulled into the drive way then looked over after turning off the car. "I love you, Ally."

Alexa beamed. "I love you too, Thomas. And I adore your plans for the future."

"No, darling," Thomas told her, leaning forward. "Our plans."

Grinning, she leaned into the kiss as well. And as their lips met, she realized that she was indeed excited for her future. Her future with Thomas.

Their future.
