Disclaimer
This is not a teaching/writing course. While tips may be provided, they are not from anyone who has ever successfully done anything more than write a story before, which is not much in the grand scheme of things.
This is an "Author Games".
Author Games are Wattpad-hosted writing competitions where participants write a story and win by having their story win via popular vote.
This is no different than that--of course, there are some minor changes. In most author games, there is a set number of participants; people are voted out round after round until only a few players are left. In this competition, you won't find a "final three" or semifinals where limited participants rush to finish, and then one of them wins.
In this competition, the finale will comprise of (hopefully) everyone who registers in the initial selection.
That, of course, would beg the question--how will someone win? Are people being voted on? Will people be forced to read my work in progress, flaws and all, and that be ripped to shreds if no one enjoys my fiction? I'm sure you're swarming with questions about this and immediately want to start rushing to fill in the blanks before I get to my point, mainly because I took the time to write this sentence rather than explain it. You're welcome.
While the title of this is an author game, and the point of it is to give out weekly tasks and force people to actually write, this will be more focused on celebrating your fellow writers. Therefore, the only prize--or ability to win--will be based on you completing your pre-established goals prior to the end of this competition. If you want a competition in which you can win bragging rights, this is certainly it. Your bragging rights are: "I worked on my story for once instead of rewriting the same chapter or restarting the story again because I got scared."
So yeah, it's not exactly an author games...but we'll call it an "author games" if that makes your competitive spirit happy.
The competition will run from October 15th to December 31st.
You must complete biweekly tasks with an expected minimum word count of at least 2k every 14 days or roughly 1k weekly.
Can you write over this amount? YES.
Can you write less than this amount? Sure, as long as you reach at least 11k at the end of this.
Now, some of you who aren't as familiar with acronyms might be wondering what "TBR" means. TBR stands for "to be read". This little competition and your stories are waiting to be read. What's stopping us from reading?
Good question.
