CHAPTER 22
Ethan's P.O.V.
My leg is aching badly but the pain I'm feeling is the last thing on my mind. The look on the scouts and my dad's faces as they dragged me away is all that's hunting me. Dammit! What the hell was the dude thinking?
As the nurse straps a cast on my twisted leg, shuffling of feet brings me out of my thoughts. I see Olivia on a stretcher with her legs in awkward directions. Ouch.
It takes them a minute or two to help fix her up. The cracking of bones as they fix it, is followed by her screams despite the painkillers administered to her.
"What happened to you?" I ask her once they are out of the room.
"I broke my leg, genius." She grunts glaring at me before closing her eyes and turning her face away from me in pain.
"No shit Sherlock. I mean how?!"
"Those damn twin cheerleaders didn't bother to reach for me after throwing me up. They were supposed to catch me according to the stupid routine. I don't even know what they were watching that got them distracted."
"I'm sure they were distracted because of me." I point out using my head to point to my wrapped up leg.
"No." A voice says before Olivia can respond turning both our attentions to the door where two figures had just strolled in.
My brows crease as Dawn and Alistair walk in with determined expressions on their faces.
"What do you mean no?" I ask them wondering what they're looking for here.
"What the hell do you want Dawn? Came to gloat in our faces how you've won?" Olivia says glaring at her.
Dawn scoffs in annoyance, "That had to be put on hold because you shitheads had to go get yourself injured."
"It's not like we asked. . . " I begin to say but Alistair interrupts me.
"That's not why we are here Dawn. Let's focus on that." He says to Dawn turning briefly to me looking like a guy who is trying so hard to hold in his anger for me. What'd I do to the dude? I mean he should be happy he has an easy passage now to win, so why's he pissed with me?
"Sorry," She says taking a deep breath in. "Seeing them together talking so calmly just infuriates me."
My eyes widen a bit as I remember that Dawn knows. I look to Alistair and realize from the understanding look in his eyes that he knows to. Who else knows?
"I really can't believe I'm doing this." Dawn mumbles again getting my attention fully. Something doesn't feel right. I look behind them to see if Taylor is anywhere there but I notice she isn't there which is strange.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"Everything you fools! How could you not even piece it together?! Scouts came and you played so well, huh? Both your parents came and so did Taylor's. Did it never occur to you that something was out of place?!" Dawn asks glaring at me but I'm still confused.
"Nothing's wrong. The parents came to cheer us up. Didn't yours come too?"
"No, you moron! Just the three of you! Do you not see the pattern here? How on earth did Taylor even date you before?"
Olivia's sharp intake of breath makes me see this a bit clearly. I understand what they're insinuating but it doesn't make any sense and I choose not to believe it, "No! No! Taylor couldn't have something to do with this. She promised me!"
"Oh my goodness." Dawn says with annoyance and disbelief, "Do you really think she's that stupid? Maybe she wasn't observant before but thanks to the both of you, you've got out the demon that was hiding deep down within that girl. The one that even the death of her twin sister didn't manage to bring out. It's high time you realize that she's not stupid and that was a trick. It should be safe to say you're the real stupid one here."
"That's a bloody lie. Besides my parents received the message from school." I counter, there's no possible way Taylor's involved in this.
"That's thanks to him." Alistair says and drags a guy from out the door to the middle of the room.
"Dude, I told you she came as a client and you know I do my job for a reason." The guy says when Alistair leaves him in the middle of the room.
I turn to the guy and notice the Jersey on him. He was the dude who collided with me and broke my leg, "Son of a..." I begin to say moving on my bed to take a swing at him but Alistair catches my fist glaring at me.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"The son of a bitch broke my leg and ruined my career. He deserves a swing of my fist." I shout glaring at the guy who looks confused.
"Broke your..." He begins to say but Alistair interrupts again, "He wasn't the one."
I release my fist from his hand glaring at him, "What do you mean he's not the one? I remember the bastard's Jersey number."
"Oh my goodness." Dawn says and collapses on a chair nearby holding her head, "Wow, Taylor I should definitely be proud of you."
"What is going on here?" Olivia asks, "You just said it's all thanks to him our parents got the text from school and now you are saying he wasn't the one."
"That's because..." Alistair begins to explain but stops and turns to Dawn , "Why don't you explain?"
"Me? Why should I explain? They deserve everything coming their way."
"Maybe but you know that the priority right now is to find Taylor before she does something she will regret and that entails us to clear everything."
"Fine." Dawn says closing her eyes before she stands up to glare at both Olivia and I's confused gazes, "I hope you don't interrupt me because so help me God if you do, I'll finish up the job for Taylor myself and strangle you." she says giving us pointed looks to pass across her message when she sees we don't say anything, she continues, "Good. Meet Daniel." she adds pointing to the guy in the middle, "He's our school's hacker. Hacks everything and anything. Taylor came to meet him yesterday and told him to send the messages."
What?! Taylor?
But that doesn't change the fact that it's his jersey number I saw. I want to ask that but I notice Dawn's stiff shoulders, Taylor once said that when Dawn's shoulders are that stiff, it means one shouldn't cross her because it means she's really pissed and is just holding it all in so I know she will do just what she promised. I keep my mouth shut as the last thing I need right now is for her to strangle me.
"Yes, it was his jersey a number you saw. It's like Alistair said it wasn't him playing. With the payment of the hacking Taylor paid Daniel for his jersey, she also paid for his absence from the game and probably made another guy play in his stead so the other guy could injure you."
"What?! Taylor isn't that kind of person, she wouldn't do that." Olivia says dumbfounded.
Even I am shocked. I turn to Alistair, "How did you know it wasn't Daniel playing? Did you find the son of a bitch who did this to me?!"
"No." Alistair says, "I knew because Daniel doesn't go for the ball where the guy did. It was my first clue that something wasn't right especially after my suspicion when she came to meet Daniel yesterday."
"Guy. Come on now, you know this isn't my fault." Daniel says giving Alistair a pitiful look but Alistair only glares at him making him retreat.
"So you're saying Taylor orchestrated the scouts and our parents coming here and also Ethan breaking his leg. What about me? Did she orchestrate mine too? How?" Olivia asks.
"Yes, she definitely orchestrated yours. We just don't know how." Dawn says, "We haven't figured that out yet."
"I have." A voice says catching our attention from outside the room. We turn to see Joanna standing there.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Olivia spits out.
Joanna ignores her and turns to Dawn, "A few days ago, I saw Taylor watching Kelly read a letter."
"Kelly is who again?" Dawn asks as we all wonder where this is going.
"Cassandra, the other cheer participant's sister." Joanna responds and continues, "Kelly had this devilish look on her face and Taylor was watching her intently with a smile on her face so much so that she was quite startled when I caught her..."
"Get to the point, please." Dawn says.
Joanna rolls her eyes at her impatience and continues, "The point is I think Taylor gave that letter to Kelly probably telling her to hurt Olivia. And she was watching her from a distance to see how she would take the contents of the letter."
"But Kelly wasn't in my cheer team." Olivia responds.
"No she wasn't but the Gonzalez twins were there and they're Kelly's right hand girls or you call them her errand girls. They never do anything without her permission. They were the ones who didn't catch you to prevent your fall."
"Wow." Dawn says, "She thought the whole thing through, didn't she?"
"Where the hell is Taylor?!" I ask in anger. How can she do all this?!
Immediately I feel a hand wrap around my neck, "You think you have the right to be angry?!" Dawn spits angrily, "After everything you did to her?!"
"Dawn! Dawn let him go!" Alistair shouts when I start choking as the pressure on Dawn's finger around my neck increases. He manages to release her hands from my neck in haste. He takes hold of her shoulder and pushes her away trying to get her to look at him.
"How can you be so calm?!" Dawn asks him very furious.
"Because right now all that matters is Taylor. And we need to figure out where she is, okay?"
Dawn releases herself from him with force, turning her back to him and rubbing her hand over her face groaning.
I immediately grab a crutch from the corner of my bed and move to stand up.
"Where do you think you're going, you're hurt?" Joanna asks in a panic mood.
"Now is not the time to be student body president Joanna. I need to look for Taylor." I say balancing myself on the crutches and heading out of the clinic ignoring any voice behind me.
What on earth is this girl up to? She had ruined my career already what else was on the list for her? I can't believe she is capable of everything Dawn and Alistair said in there, I need to hear it from her mouth.
Once I'm in the hallway, I run into a panting Diego, "Have you seen your sister?!" I ask him with utmost urgency. I need to stop Taylor from whatever she is planning.
"Urgh, yes. The broadcasting room." he says with a big smile.
The broadcasting room?! Dammit Taylor! What on earth are you up to?
In my frantic mode to get to Taylor, I don't think too much about what Diego says after that.
"That was quite easy." he says but I'm already rushing and direction of the broadcasting room as fast as the crutches can take me. Dammit when you need fast legs.
I wobble and almost trip rushing to the broadcasting room. The few people that are in the hallway move out of my way fast from the look on my face.
"Taylor!" I shout once I'm close to the room in hope that it would stop her. As I get behind the door I see her turn the microphone on and speak into it. My eyes widen and I quickly open the door to get inside the room using the key to lock the door behind me. We are going to finish this once and for all.
"Taylor." I whisper harshly, "Put the damn microphone off."
She turns to me like she doesn't hear what I'm saying, "Taylor!" I warn through gritted teeth.
She finally turns it off and turns to face me with a confused look, "Ethan?" she says.
-------_----------_--------
He fell into the trap, didn't he? Poor you, Ethan.
A round of applause to you Dawn, Alistair and Joanna for pulling together the pieces of the puzzle. I'd say you did a great job.
What do you think of the chapter?
