5-The Iris Of My Eye
A/N: Hey guys! I made a new cover for this book! Also, here's the other one I made. The one above is an option I posted, but if you want it changed just comment your opinion. I made this on my phone, so it's not too great.
Ok enjoy the chapter!
I walked into the kitchen. My feet caused the floorboards to creak with each step. I wondered why my parents hadn't called me yet. The thought left me with a strange kind of sadness. Why wouldn't they call their only child while she was probably miles away from home. Yes, I am an only child. Who isn't? Actually that's an understatement. Nobody is an only child it seems like. Rachel has five brothers. Mason probably has a super cute sister or brother. Teresa has a sister. Everybody has siblings except me, but that gave me all the love from my parents.
I grabbed some cereal Karen had placed out for me and stared at the crinkled yellow paper she'd placed underneath. A note to say sorry like every cliche movie. I grinned at the thought. I'd walk out the door and scream house party. Everyone would rush in and we'd have the time of our lives. Then right as midnight hits, I'll meet my lover, Mason who somehow flew to Michigan in four seconds, and we'll kiss under the moo-
Stop! I buried my face in my hands. Mason. Mason. Mason. I shook my head quickly. My face turned red each time I thought of his name. I couldn't believe I was doing this right now. How did I get from a movie to Mason? Because he's hot just like a movie star.
I jumped up from my seat and walked outside into the freezing weather. I parted my lips and let out the loudest scream I'd ever let out. It was so cold. I looked around suddenly embarrassed from my fit. That girl from before was giggling to the side at me. I glared at her in disgust. She wasn't with her gossip friend like the day before which gave me confidence to stomp right up to her. She saw me coming and started laughing even louder. She was mocking me.
"Who are you?" I asked her–my breath clearly visible in the cold winter air. The girl wiped a tear from her eye as she checked me out. Her lips turned up into a sly smile that was unmistakably mischievous. "I said who are you, not check me out stranger. Answer the question, Giggles," I ordered before cringing at my own nickname for her. Mason was rubbing off on me already just like he'd rub off on me when we're married. Kill me please world.
"Tomato, you don't order me around, but since you asked so nicely, it's Iris. Nice nickname, Tomato. Could do better, but Giggles is ok," The girl shrugged simply causing me to take my turn at giving off a smirk. "What's with that smirk Tomato? You still thinking about the naughty things you'd do with Varsity?" Iris teased. She put her finger in her mouth and acted like she was about to throw up. I gave her a questionable look.
"Varsity?" I wondered, and she groaned at my stupidity. Her hand pointed to a small house. I felt like I knew the house from somewhere far back in my memory. "He's the boy who lives there. You were giving him the eyes the other day. You know? The 'I love you, please kiss me' eyes." Iris described causing me to stare at the house. I did not do such a thing. All I did is stare him down to get back at him for staring at us. A movement caused me to push my attention back to Iris. She was staring behind me at something. I turned around. Teresa was walking towards me.
"Hey Taylor!" She shouted. I gave her a smile as Iris began walking off. Her hair bounced each step she took on he cold pavement. Her breath blew in the freezing wind around us. "Oh, I see you've met Iris," Teresa grimaced before glaring at Iris. Iris turned around and smirked. "And she's still a smiley little gi-"
"Ay! Mega BeachBall. I'm not going to cuss you out because Taylor seems like the girl who doesn't appreciate that, so listen here. You may be older than me, but I am not a little girl and will kick your grass any day!" Iris threatened stepping closer to Teresa. Teresa rolled her eyes. "Taylor isn't a child. I can say anything in front of her. Go f-" I stepped on Teresa's foot. She yelled in pain and looked at me.
"I don't appreciate words of foul language, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped, please," I pleaded. Teresa clicked her tongue in disgust, and I felt like our progress was gone. She was mad at me. Iris was fuming at her. I was mad at Iris for implying the use of such words. Iris nodded her head in thanks towards me, but I didn't return the favor.
"Taylor, you'll know where to find me when you're not in the presence of the devil's daughter," Teresa spat turning around and walking the other way. Iris's cheeks tinted a dark shade of pink, and she blew her cheeks out like a chipmunk. "Just because my dad's getting your stupid cafe shut down, doesn't mean he's the devil!" Iris shouted–stomping her foot like a child not getting its way. Teresa kept walking until she was out of sight. My stomach somersaulted it's way into my anxiety in five seconds flat. I didn't know they hated each other so much.
I stared at the now giggling Iris. She stared at me in amusement before continuing her laughing fit. "You sure do hang out with the wrong crowd," She said. In a swift moment, she turned on her heel and began to walk the other way Teresa went. I looked at her sway from side to side.
"Giggles, slow it down. You're not going to help me stop Teresa?" I asked, and she turned her head to look at me. "I'd appreciate it!" I shouted hoping she'd hear me. Iris shrugged and kept walking.
"Just because you pulled that stunt doesn't mean we're friends. I just needed something to do while Natasha sucked on her boyfriend's face. I'll see you around Taylor," Iris yelled back before walking out of view. I couldn't believe it. Of course, we were far from friends, but she abandoned me with a problem she caused. I gritted my teeth together in anger and kicked the snow on the ground. So stupid. Now I had to go apologize to Teresa for Iris's stupid actions. I mentally slapped myself for even considering a friendship with the caramel skinned girl.
Rachel would probably slap me in the face as hard as she could. Her hand would sting, and I'd yell at her till she couldn't hear. I could imagine it from a mile away. 'Don't trust people so easily Taylor. They'll break you faster than you can say stop.' I sighed and walked slowly to the café. I hadn't even known that the place was being shut down. Teresa was probably so mad. Why should I care? We weren't best friends like Rachel and I. We had just met the day before.
It's because I get attached too easily to people. My mom always called me a softie at heart, and it was very much true. Mom always knew what was best for me, and I always was one to agree. I sighed and finally noticed I was in front of the coffee shop. It had no signs of its soon fate. It was happy and pleasant, so I sighed. Why did I care? It was a stupid coffee shop on the corner of a street. Teresa could work in another shop in this huge city. I inhaled a large amount of the freezing cold air and put my hand on the door knob.
Here goes nothing...
