Concern
The school day had gone by relatively fast luckily, you had been sligh eager but anxious all day long for the literature club. Riiiing! The usual bell screeched indicating that everyone was released from prison, students bolted out of their seats to be the first ones out, jamming the doorway with agitated teenagers. You took the leisure to remove yourself from the desk as you grab your school bag and head out of your English class once its nearly empty with a sigh of relief. To your surprise a short and hotheaded Natsuki was leaning up against the wall beside the classroom door to your left, small arms folded and her lips a unwelcoming frown forming upon them as she didn't even seem to notice you. Her pink orbs were focused on a huge glass window in front of her as if entranced by it, though it was probably her thinking deeply.
"Hey... Natsuki!" Trying your best to not sound so socially awkward she blinks with a jolt and turns her attention to you, her expression softened a little and her small nostrils flared with a sigh of relief.
"Ah, hey. (Y/N)!" She replied and took a few steps forward to peel herself off the tiled walls, she didn't turn to face you as she spoke. Natsuki's shrill, strong voice had sounded a little flat, like some , mysterious presence was encumbering the girl.
"Are you okay?" You ask with concern, your voice echoing through the empty hallways, by the heavy air you could tell that something was up. The shorter girl massaged her neck as she headed in the direction of the Literature Club her shoes tapping against the hard floor.
"I'm fine, okay? Its whatever." The teen shrugged it off and continued onward almost as if trying to shield off the fact that you had noticed that something was up with her demeanor. In silence you follow her reluctantly to the club room, gulping hard and quickly suppressing the concern for Natsuki as 4 friendly faces welcomed you. Sayori was the first to greet you, with her sparkling ocean eyes radiating with happiness, it was almost pungent.
"Hello! (Y/N)! We're glad that you've come back!" The blonde's tinny fists were curled and pressed to her upper chest quivering with excitement. A smile made its way to your lips and a small giggle to add at that.
"Hey Sayori! And why wouldn't I come back? I don't lie you know. I keep my promises." A very warm and sincere tone came from your voice, gliding through the air and making its way to Sayori and everyone else who could hear. Monika's face lit up, looking joyous despite having a pile of papers on a desk near the podium. Curiosity jabbed you in the sides to investigate, but that would have to wait for later.
"Good!" The airhead giggled and pulled you into a hug, pressing her warm body against yours tightly. The both of you were teeter tottering, swaying wildly from side to side, mainly from her rapidly hopping up in down with energy. A small blush spread across your (S/C) cheeks, slowly pulling away from the teen as politely as possible with a grin. It almost left you speechless since you weren't really used to affection or any type of physical contact, you wondered how much evil red color invaded your face.
"W-w-well I try my best! Heh." SIlently, you curse yourself for sounding so awkward, well at least to you, though the other club members looked happier. Maybe it was amusement, definitely from Monika since she had a tiny smirk upon her lush lips as she came over to you.
"That's exactly what I want from club members, to try their best! Ahaha! Did you right a poem as requested?" Monika's grin widened as she got a good look at your burning face, making you want to sink back out of the classroom and never return again, but at least no one had said anything yet! Yet...
"Y-yeah I did..." Quickly you pull out a folded piece of lined white paper from your skirt pocket and unfold the sheet, presenting the scribble of words on it. Sayori let out an 'oooh', probably eager to see your writing abilities as much as everyone else seemed to be. The brunette flashed her perfect white pearly teeth at you before nodding approvingly, lively hair dancing along with her head.
"Good! We will be sharing poems near the end of club time!" With that Monika went back to what she was doing, seemingly sorting through paperwork, a brow furrowing with focus. After a small moment of piece a Sayori gazed at you and leaned forward to whisper in your ear.
"Since I didn't want to interrupt Monika and stuff I just wanted to say how ridiculously cute you are when you blush! Ehehee!" Blinking rapidly you take a step back and sweep your hands to your cheeks, they were even hotter now from the compliment. The blue-eyed girl's lips curled into a mischievous grin as she slunk back to the farther end of the classroom where that boy with dark brown hair had waited patiently, his brown eyes warmer as the short girl linked arms with him. His name was apparently Riku, you wondered if they were a couple because from the stories you heard they had been childhood friends and were very close- they were even neighbors! Admiration flowed through your body as you gazed at them interacting with each other, Riku was trying to fix Sayori's messy but cute hair with a goofy grin as the poor girl tried to duck away from his sturdy hands. Looking away you realized that Natsuki wasn't even present in the classroom anymore, not even in the closet to reach for your manga, concern struck you.
"Um, does anyone know where Natsuki is? She walked to the clubroom with me..." Expressing your worry Monika looked up from her papers and let out a small sigh. "She could be by the vending machines or the bathroom. Like her that much already?" The president mused with a lighthearted giggle. Clenching your fists a little you let out a small snort.
"I just met her. Jeez..." With a huff you place your bag near a desk and venture out to find the poor girl, heading left down the white tiled hallways towards the bathrooms in which convienently the vending machines were only another hall away on the first floor, near the courtyard. Passing by the bathrooms you felt no presence of anyone or anything inhabiting them and continued onward, listening to your tapping footsteps which were the only thing that could be heard. The halls echoed very loudly, given all the space and width they had, able to fit hustling students perfectly on their way to class. Unlike your middle school which had been way too crowded, it was nice for a change. It took about a minute to reach your destination and in which to Monika's statement she was correct. The pink hothead was crouched trying to reach under the huge machine for... Something. Natsuki was muttering curses quietly to herself as her hand retracted and she punched the poor metal monster with a hiss of pain, rubbing her right knuckles. Though her face drained a little of color as she noticed you standing there, making her jolt up and rise to her feet with a gasp, more startled and scared than you would've thought of. Those fiery magenta eyes you were familiar with were dull and cold, but you could still feel her glare piercing right through you.
"Damn... Ugh you didn't see anything okay?" The small teen ground her teeth as she spoke, the tension was definitely rising, not in just her but you also, your throat tightened as fear got the better of you; the fear of saying something wrong.
"A-are you okay? You seem... Off?" Fidgeting with the hem of your skirt you take a few cautious steps forward, peering down at the girl.
"I-I'm fine!" She growled and looked to the floor, her voice growing weaker by the second until she fell to ground, collapsing like a ragdoll on top of you. With a yelp of surprise you catch her, realizing how alarmingly light she was and settled her down to the floor, she was still concious but now cursing a lot, bringer her small pale fingers to her forehead and massaging her temples. "Agh... So dizzy...."
"Easy now..." Despite feeling those jittering butterflies in your stomach you reluctantly reach out and place a very gentle hand on her bony back. A sharp knife pierced your chest from realizing how skinny she really was, just by a simple touch. There air was dense, almost heavy with a negative emotion, from contact she had let out a fearful gasp, flinching away a little, the girl's face had scrunched up in reaction. "S-sorry.." Stammering you reach in your pocket and pull out shiny coins, cold to the touch of your sweaty palm. "Just stay there... Please." Natsuki looked ready to protest but shut her mouth and brought her knees to her chest, burying her face into them with a groan. Quickly you get two protein bars from the vending machine, the good kinds too. Kneeling down in front of her with your index finger you tap her shoulder with the same feather-like touch you did before and hold out the bars towards her. The teen greedily snatches them and unwraps the first one tearing half of it in one bite like a beastly hunger had overwhelmed her, her pink eyes were starting to look more lively again. After she finished the first one she turned her attention towards you with a very genuine smile.
"T-thanks..." For sure there was a blush on her cheeks now as you settled down next to her against the cold brick wall. "If you're w-w-wondering why that happened... It was because I don't really get much food at home. Don't have the money for it..." Seeing the grief that clouded Natsuki's dull pink eyes made you want to hug the girl so badly, but you'd probably get your ass kicked if that happened.
"It's nothing, if you don't get much to eat, then I could pack an extra lunch..." Before Natsuki declined, you felt a fire inside your heart flare up in had its intensity. "I WILL make you lunch. You look famished, whether you like it or not!" Sounding more demanding this time, the pink-haired student puffed out her cheeks in a cutesy, but slightly angry manner, her pout was reminiscent of a child. Since she didn't say anything you slowly guided her up onto her feet and began your journey back down the hallway where you came from. "If you need help, I'll be willing to give it." Truly you were as sincere as possible as you took your time walking, in which Natsuki was stuffing her face with the second bar with a bright smile on her cheeks. That smile was something you could get used to.
