20. Hi

It had been five years. Five years since Hayes and I had passed ways. Who knew if he'd come back this year. "You've been wearing that watch every time we call?" Brea asked me. We were currently video calling each other. She'd finally made it out to Bangkok and started her new life.

"Well, you never know when I need to check the time." I said to her and she tilted her head to the side.

"Or are you just wishing he'll come back. And to be honest. You've been miserable since they day. You had Elote for two months straight and that's a record. Even for you." She said to me and I shook my head at her.

"Well, it gave me comfort. Besides I still can't eat Tostadas. They just remind me of him." I said to her and she looked at me. She'd been thinking this for ages.

"Everything reminds you of him. What doesn't help is the picture of him in the gallery that you won't sell." She said to me and I looked at her. Shaking my head.

"How do you know that?" I asked her and she looked at me with a smirk. Tapping her nose.

"I have my sources." She said to me. "Anyways. How was Deadwood?" She asked me and I looked at her with a smile on my face.

"Refreshing. Not only because it was cold. But there was a nice change of scenery there. Away from all of this. The hustle and bustle of LA. How's Bangkok?" I said to her and she looked at me with a smile.

"It's so good. I went on a date and it worked out well. I might finally be in a relationship out here." She said with a smile and I smiled back at her.

"I can't wait to meet them." I said to her with a smile.

"She can't wait to meet you either." She said to me and I smiled at her. This was going to be the start to her best life. I could tell. "Well, I've got to go. I'll call you next week." She said to me with a smile.

"Next week sounds perfect." I said to her with a smile. The call ended and I walked into the main room of the house.

"I hear that Hayes is going to be on the Graham Norton show. We'll have to watch it. He's performing his new song Go Rogue." Brooke said to me and that's when Jay came over and hugged me.

"That's the one about you right?" She asked me and I nodded at her.

"It's obvious to tell. It's our story." I said to her and they both looked at me.

"If you don't want to watch it I totally get it." Brooke said to me and I looked at her.

"We'll watch it." I said to her and that's when the two of them hugged me. This was going to be a hard watch. I went on with my day, painting and going to the gallery. All until it was time to go home and watch the episode of the Graham Norton show. A British talk show that I'd seen a few times.

"You still smile
When the music takes you by surprise?
Mm
And do you lie
Awake and dreaming
On what we might have been
Or how it'd feel to start again
Or who you'll be
If you were mine?
And will you follow
When I go rogue
Oh
And let me lead you home
When you've lost hope?
Oh, we've tried this your way
And it's not too late to try it mine
We still have time" Hayes sang and the song ended. Everyone erupting into an applause. "Thank you." He said with a smile on his face. I felt Jay put her arm around me and pull me closer to her.

"Hayes Campbell!" Graham Norton shouted as Hayes walked over to the sofa. The cheering continued. "You sit there. Okay." Graham said pointing to the seat.

"Okay." Hayes got out.

"That was amazing, Hayes. Thank you so much. Really special performance, wasn't it? Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous." Graham said and it was gorgeous.

"Thank you." Hayes said. He still looked as good as they day we walked away from each other.

"It seems like you have been touring nonstop." Graham said and I saw Hayes look down and smile.

"Yeah." He got out.

"Presumably, there is a break somewhere in your future. You need a break, Hayes." Graham said and he did need one. It wasn't healthy to keep touring.

"I-I need a break. I-I'm-I'm on my last legs, I think, at the moment, Graham. But, um, no, I think, um, it-it's just about, you know, getting through the tour. And, um, I think after that, I-I've scheduled myself a little break, maybe a little holiday to L.A." Hayes said and I felt a small smile begin to grow on my face. Was this happening? Was he really coming back for me?

"L.A.? Any particular reason why L.A.?" Graham asked and I saw the smile appear on Hayes face. He was thinking of his answer.

"Uh, there's someone I would like to see there." He said with a smile on his face. The audience then started to cheer.

"He's definitely talking about you." Brooke said to me and if he was. Then I was happy. Or maybe there was just someone else in L.A. for him.

"I'm not getting my hopes up just yet." I said to them both. A few days later. We were at our exhibition, we were starting a new one. "I'm going to sort out the paperwork for shipping one of our pieces." I said to them both and Jay looked at me with a nod.

"Got it and if anything happens, we'll call you." She said to me and I nodded at her. I then started on the paperwork. Who knew shipping documents for Australia would be so much.

"How are you?" Brooke asked someone that had just walked in. I then heard the quiet chatter and familiar British accent. I then started leaving the back office. "...it truly is just a stunning connection. You know, I think there's a Ilya Fernandez back there that you'd really love. Yeah." She said and that's when I saw him. He turned around and saw me. I started smiling at him and he did to me. He came back.

"Hi." He said to me and I looked at him with a smile.

"Hi." I said to him. This was the moment I'd waited for. For five years this was the only thing that kept me going. "Now are you just going to stand there or kiss me like you've waited your whole life to." I said to him and he started walking towards me.

"You didn't need to tell me twice." He said and he kissed me. In that moment, it felt like we were the only people to exist. I felt completed.
