Chapter 34 - Devils lair 2.
While I kept stealing glances at the clock My feet tap away simultaneously, Dear Lord, I do love you and respect your authority, but this church needs to end like ... yesterday. Of all the attention I could have by anyone, it must be by my sworn enemy. His eyes only seem to darken deadpanning on me and my every move smirking at my failed attempt to remain still, Damn my jitteriness.
Does he know? Is he onto me? If not, why hasn't he said anything.
"We have come to the time of Collections." somehow the speakers were loud enough, the preachers raspy voice made way through my canal helping me pull my eyes away, Collections? Collections From the people? What happened to the so-called Archangels that have paved the way with their millions? They payed half a million for a cross, and they are collecting? No way anyone will actually -
"Jane hurry up and put five dollars the basket is next to you." my mother whispers in our native tongue nearly hissing into my ear. My head snaps to the right of me when a cologne flows into my nose, a pale complexion decorated with thick green veins at the bottom of his hand with a gold ring around his middle finger, he cups a gold bowl filled with hundred-dollar bills. Did they just?
Digging a folded bill into my hand "Hurry up everyone is looking, at least act rich" she practically slithered, Side eying my mother's statement I understand the predicament I am in even though most of my attention tries to divert away from the man high and far away from me, it would be better not to bring forth any more attention, and plus it's not my money is what I kept reciting to not go mad as I placed the money in the bowl.
"And now brothers and sisters, it is time for a few words from the young chosen one himself."
I winced from the noise of the man behind me cheering way too loudly, "Thank you everyone, thank you." over the microphone his voice deeper and even more assertive. "Your hard work is what you should be cheering for, I am nothing."
For the first time he says something I can agree with. He stood so tall; the light was stolen by his eyes emphasizing the dark orbs glossing them up to an HD effect, as much as I want to divert my attention away, he is all can see and hear ... Literally. "As you all are aware a fellow member and a dear friend of mine has been attacked recently" his eyes found mine, my heart fell to ass hol- (Clears throat seeing the cross) Dang I can't even think about cuss words.
"Him and his date were alone behind the alley of my mini restaurant, and some Criminal attacked him", my eyes widened, no way is he speaking about -
"What kind of world are we living in? Where defending your date and your attacked and arrested?" Cameron huffs in fanning hurt. My chest Is heaving violently, His eyes never left mine, but he occasionally glanced around to not bring attention, the night I got hurt he is using the crooked cops to defend himself, why is he not telling the truth? These cops wouldn't utter a peep if Cameron were to stab someone in broad daylight. He is still holding up the act but why?
"He was wrongfully arrested as his attacker still roams free." I heard the booing of everyone behind me.
"This society is messed up." a voice from afar screamed.
"I bet you it's one of those illegals" a feminine voice on the other side.
"Why do they keep coming here to cause trouble?" the elderly woman with the pink blouse says.
Cameron says nothing, standing there amusingly with a half smirk as he Stares at me, waiting for me to screw up, hold me still Lord, please hold me still. A Masculine man with a confederate flag hat abruptly stands "We should just go on a hunting spree to those poverty homes and just arrest and shoot them down." The crowd began whistling and cheering.
My heart is ready to fall apart, these are the people we relied on to protect and serve? Not only is he demonizing my boyfriend but completely switching the story around. My leg began to tap out of anxiety. I dare not look around to not show my emotions, Tanika was right ... as always, he really is the one pulling the strings.
Flapping his hands downwards the crowd seated, "God always provides us ways to fight against the evils of the corruption."
I want to scream out the irony. Corruption?
"Although my parents and I work hard, you all work harder, your votes matter and that's why it is important keeping my uncle Samules in the Grand Juror," Cameron's eyes divert to the left, everyone's eyes including mine follow his gaze until they abrupt in cheer, A very tall man with Coifed gray hair with dark strings of black rises to his feet, thick muscles nearly rip through his sleeves, why don't those people ever buy their size? Who is that man? He turns his head to the side peering at everyone cheering him raising his hands to acknowledge the screaming and whistling crowds, even from my distance he was obviously very well tamed and groomed, immensely handsome my guess of age would be seventy?
"Your too old to be blushing old man," the crowd breaks in laughter, my head whips back to see Cameron's father with the Microphone smiling at the older guy, they almost seem similar, was that Cameron's grandfather? After moments of laughter Cameron than took the Microphone, "dad, Uncle Rodgers isn't that old." he huffed.
I thought I fell into quicksand, Uncle? This was the real man behind the scenes? he was the one really pulling the strings in the system? I'm having a hard time breathing, my chest is ready to collapse, peering over to my mother I was astonished as to how quiet she was, I pray she stays that way. Would anyone ever believe me If I told them I saw it for myself that I witnessed the real glitch in the matrix system? It was real and I was one of the few to see it firsthand. This was how it's done; this was the set up for votes, that's how the game is always rigged because they already know the players.
Tanika was right.
Cameron clearing his throat over the microphone pulled me from my thought, he was staring at me the whole time, smirking, "Kevin our dear friend who is serving and unfair probation was able to get glimpse of his attacker" My soul was ready to fly. His pause only builds suspension, and he knows it, "Tell us who the fucker is" I couldn't help but wince from the baritone voice of the man behind my ear.
"Uh please no cussing in the house of the Lord", the preacher counter attacks.
How about not running a cult in his home either.
"I know it's exciting, but the young chosen one will get to it," it still Strucks me amazed at how this man could call himself a preacher.
"Sorry about that, I like to build suspension" he chuckled darkly. His eyes return to mine, a dark glare burning a hole right through my body "I have done my own research, I am guessing this criminal looks like me, sports long blonde hair with blue eyes," everyone turned to look around eyeing anyone with blonde hair, trying to find the imposter among them, they really should be looking into a mirror.
Judging by the stoic expressions it would be safe to assume not even they trust each other I'm guessing. My heart is ready to tear painfully I felt my self-tremble from the sudden claustrophobia, my Rowan he is talking about my Rowan outing him if front of all these crooked cops. A deep dark chuckle turned my chest cold "That criminal wouldn't dare step into our holy grounds, you can trust thy neighbor, again this all my assumptions."
"Unfortunate is it when it's your own."
I side eyed the African Americans from afar with that statement. Unfortunate indeed.
Eyes locking onto mine once again "You just can't trust anyone, but brothers and sisters this individual must be brought to Justice, my poor friend Sits at home traumatized by the event, does he not deserve Justice?"
"Yes" The crowd roared in sync.
"Do You believe in Justice?"
"Yes" The seats began to rumble.
"That's what I like to hear, it would really pain me seeing a brethren from my community Go down, but Justice is Justice and what is the only meal criminals deserve on a silver plate?"
Everyone rises to their feet together rumbling the windows, the force of the men behind me were strong enough to almost launch me to my feet. "Justice" applause and roars filled the wall echoing violently.
In achievement Cameron stands back stoic expression with soft eyes soaking in the praise, everyone behind him patting his back. My guess would be this is all a secret this Is what the underground looks like ... In broad daylight. I'm starting to think I was wrong, I been hiding all this time, but these people are in front of me, next to me and behind me, In broad daylight. Smiling chatting and eating as if nothing, I was afraid of the unknown when all this time the monsters were in my face. Relentless crimes and murders disappearing without traces.
Right In front my eyes this was all happening, the only difference is they wear their uniforms having conversations and donuts. The Bible was right, trust no one and now that I see my fears were inaccurate it might be tougher to blend in the way I thought. Regardless I can't back down.
"Is Everything alright there Ms. Jane?" If I were a building, I would have collapsed to the ground right about now, the cheers and claps paused, everyone shifting their head left to right before following his gaze towards me. My anxiety levels were becoming insufferable, and I found catching a breath more difficult than any inner malfunction's.
"You seem to be thinking hard, was that to your liking, you are our guest." He smirks snuggly.
A sea of different colored orbs pins my body down weighing on me like a magnet, I'm heavy from their glare, why can't I just snap my fingers and they all just evaporate? Even the main character from Watt-pad has had an embarrassing moment, but someone is always saving the day.
"My daughter is ok, she is just feeling sick" my mother's broken English picked up through the crowd, did she just lie for me? Although skeptical, Cameron bought it "Than please have a seat, wouldn't want you to pass out now."
He darkened those words calculatingly almost knowing he is getting to me, is my barriers breaking? I was sure to cover up my emotion.
"Brothers and sisters as much as I love being surrounded by all of you, you so have families and a city to attend to and you need your rest, thank you."
Before walking away, he winks at me, I could feel the headache from the cheering men behind me, their claps are thunderous with the baritone of their voices as the wooed.
"That is why he is our chosen one" The preacher speaks through the noise, "And now ladies and gentlemen we are near are end, shall we close our eyes and bow for a prayer."
To their Anti-Christ? No thanks.
Moments of silence as I peer around, everyone are really blindly following everything that is being said, and they call the people the Gullible followers.
With a slight palm slap the preacher closed the Bible that he wasn't using "My brothers and sisters, May God bless you all."
"Ouch you little sh-" I quickly cleared my throat to not go off on the kid that was running so fast the heels of his shoes nearly broke my big toe, though church was over I stand far from the herd of sheep in wolves clothing by my mom's car, annoyed to why I am not far away from this place already, oh yea, my mother wants to shake hands with every moving figure. 'One second' she notions to me with a pointer finger seeing me send daggers at her, hadn't it been for the cult like assembly we were just in I would have sworn these people were normal, it's scary how I was almost deceived yet again.
Not one conversation about what they just sat throughout for nearly two hours, just dinner plans and vacations as if they didn't just start a secret man hunt for Rowan, I bite my tongue saying his name, knowing myself I could be talking out loud unknowingly. I need to text Tanika, I need to speak with her, but I am still skeptical about opening my phone cause the first thing will be the zillions of the non-stop notifications from my Watt-pad. But I still need to get a hold of her and Justine before I go mad, reaching for my phone I glanced around to notice something eerie.
Wasn't my mother standing right there?
In a frantic my neck nearly snaps in half, heart on full trepidation mode with wobbly legs, "Mom"? A few women glanced towards me in question before returning to their conversations, no, where is my mother? Of all places here wouldn't be the best place to be lost. Scouring through every crowd and nearly tumbling over the people, nothing. My mother is all things and possibly the most irritating soul to ever cause me the most distress but losing her without Justice set the appreciation high for me.
"Where is my mother!" I screamed to a few men, one of them familiar his head was the one that popped out like an underground beaver in front of me. The others say nothing with their hands in their pockets smirking.
"You were with someone?" He sneered.
Stepping closer Darkening my voice "Where is she?"
He turns to his friends and laugh, before turning back to me and lowering his tone "My wife is probably far, we could have just 20 minutes in the restroom if we're quick". He winked, the other guys began snickering and roaring, but were quickly silenced by the loud noise, I'm ready to cry from the painful sensation from my palm, I hadn't even realized I raised my hand before it was too late, the upmost disrespect.
The Man, red faced turned back to me menacingly before sniffling, "You fucking Bit-"
"Jonathan, your better than this"
That voice, no it can't be, from my peripheral vision Cameron steps from behind me, "You have just converted brother, do not stop yourself low". He says softly to the steaming man, I don't falter.
Breathing out a hard breath "Yes Cameron, thank you for letting me calm down."
Wow that was quick.
"I will speak to Ms Jane, you gentlemen have a good day." When did he get all nice and subtle?
Watching the men walk away not glancing back Cameron turned back to me slowly trailing down my body, "Ms Jane-"
"Where is my mother."
He huffs a smile, "of course she is right this way."
"Just call her for me, I don't trust you." A few women glanced toward us in disbelief, Yes I spoke to your 'Chosen one' that way ... Be Mad! I thought to myself.
"This is the home of the lord Ms Jane" he says happily glancing around to ease the gaze of the women, but than he stepped closer to my ear darkening his voice "Get in the fucking church before I have her killed" he growls.
My heart leapt and I wanted to crumble, I stand there in fear wincing when his nails dug into my bicep, his walk and pace are steady so I could keep up, unfortunately my bicep suffers from his claws and powerful grip.
My back is slammed violently onto the bricked wall behind the church, before I can gather the oxygen that escaped Cameron pushed his entire body into me gripping my cheeks in a bear grip, nails piercing through the skin.
"Why the fuck are you here?" He growls, canines flashing with his lips curling back, just like a wolf, he was actually scaring me.
"Mmskeoekdkzowofjri" I muffled from the pain.
Slightly releasing his grip from my mouth "My mother is missing in your church, where is she."
"Listen you bitch, I don't give a shit about your fucking mother, step onto this property again and I'll have my boys finger your pussy live while your feet and hands are nailed to the ground." I am terrified, this is the real Cameron, I am scared, tears are brimming while I try to fight him off me.
"You and your boyfriend are screwed you whor-"
"Behind the church? Well please don't mind me." A deep chuckle made him whip his head, like fire Cameron Flings himself away from me. I fell to the ground coughing and crying. Through my blurred vision I catch a sight of a nervous Cameron.
"Why are you here, you are not welcomed you Demon, mind your own business."
"A woman in need is my business."
My head leans upwards, Those words, that voice, Detective Jacksonville Florida. What's he doing here? I don't even care he just saved me.
Sporting An all-black suit with a gold Rolex, beard evenly trimmed with stubbles of a mustache, deep black hair combed out and gelled to the back of his head.
"It's been a while Goma de mascar, did you miss Papi?"
