Chapter 13: Counting

Alissa lied awake in the small, wooden bed that both her and Wyatt shared. Although it was a king size bed, his body took up the most space due to him being 6'5".

She couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried to close her eyes. Even counting sheeps didn't help her doze off.

The door creaked open as Wyatt came in and went to his side of the bed. He rested his eyeglasses on the side table that was taller than their bed, sighing as he rubbed his tiresome eyes.

"What's wrong with you?" He looked over his shoulder at his girlfriend who's gaze had been burning through the ceiling.

"Is there really anyone up there?"

"Of course there is, it's common to question His existence."

"Then why would he do this to me?" Her voice sounded bleak, the roughness evident in her throat.

Wyatt sighed, fully being underneath the covers with her. His head rested against the headboard along with Alissa's.

"Because he's testing you. To see if you're really strong enough to be a mother."

"I gave birth. That's being strong enough. I pushed him-"

"It was a cesarean."

Alissa looked over at Wyatt with a blank stare that overpowered her disgusted emotion.

"You were in and out of consciousness, so I had to cut you open and take him out myself."

"Hm.." A small form of agreement trapped in her mouth.

"If you're strong enough to be a mother, you'll deal with his problems. Save up money for an operation."

"I can't. I only get paid $50 every week. We still have to pay for bills. I'm not even buying him any toys because I can't afford it. Why can't you auction off your dolls on Ebay or something?"

Wyatt looked over at her as if she had given him the biggest insult in the book. His facial expression went from being rational, to almost enraged.

"I can't do that."

"Why not?"

"I worked too hard for them to just be auctioned off like that!"

"Well then if they cost $500 auction them for $1000, that way you'll be making profit. A-"

Alissa was cut off by Wyatt abruptly grabbing her hair, pulling it downwards and seeing the pain rush through her face.

"I'm not selling any of them. Do you hear that?" He hissed through gritted teeth.

Alissa nodded, pleading he let go as the pain was too much for her to handle.

Once he did, Wyatt got up and walked out of the room. From what Alissa could hear, his footsteps were leading downstairs and getting quieter as he walked, assuming he went to the basement.

She quickly grabbed her phone, dialing Andrew's number.

"Hello?"

"I need you to come to the woods, the one nearest to Dave's g-"

"Ha, it's just a voicemail dumbass. If it's urgent, leave it at the beep."

Alissa hung up, smashing her phone in anger and distress. She curled herself up, bawling her eyes out for what seemed like the 10th night that month.

———

"Alright, come on now, shh...shh, it's fine." Wyatt cooed to Celare as he laid him down on the stretcher that was freshly opened from the hardware closet in the basement.

In the corner sat yet another victim, but this time her body parts would be used to save someone's life. It wasn't wise to have someone of the opposite sex donate a part of themselves, but it was the blood group that mattered more than their sex, at least that's what Wyatt thought.

The woman shook herself almost every time her body gave up fighting the tight leather belt that held her against the chair. Her screams formed from her throat and were blocked by a sexual gag, preventing anybody from hearing her.

Wyatt prepared the sedative he'd be giving his 9 week old son, firstly fixing the partial cleft lip and then attempting to fix his eyesight. He hoped it would work, or else there would be serious repercussions.

Once the baby fell asleep, he cleaned his surgical gear. Wyatt had only attended the community college's surgery summer course once, and the rest of his research and studying had been done through Youtube videos. It was fair to say, he had absolutely no idea what he was doing, or what the outcome would be.

He grabbed a scalpel, something he knew was of common use in surgeries. Wyatt made small incisions at the sides of the deformity, making them corresponding to each other so they would fit like a puzzle. Once he was done with that, he immediately pulled together the two, locking them with a single stitch of sewing thread - since he didn't have any medical thread. He stitched the wound up until it was tightened and assured it wasn't going to undo itself.

The next step was the eye surgery. He hesitated to practice on such a small child. Perhaps it's for the best - Wyatt thought, walking over to the woman who sat back, hysterically crying as the tears automatically rushed down her pale face.

"You know you'll be saving someone's life, right?" Wyatt whispered quietly to the woman, stroking her face and wiping the tears away.

———

Alissa quickly got out of the bed, realizing Wyatt hadn't shuffled around downstairs - taking that as her cue to escape.

She walked to the nursery hurriedly, opening the door as if she didn't care about ruining the little boy's sleep. In a daze, her feet dragged her tired out body to the cot - revealing something she never wanted.

He was missing.

Alissa panicked, looking around the nursery in a frenzy and tearing it apart hoping he magically crawled out of his crib and waddled somewhere in the nursery, but he was nowhere to be found.

The door was shut, she knew that. The sound of wind was muffled through the protection of the locked windows and doors - that could only mean one thing.

Another moment of adrenaline rushed through her - this time, she wasn't letting Wyatt get away with any of this. She heard the muffled sounds of his father hushing him behind the locked door of the basement, which she stormed to.

Her frail fists banged as hard as they could, her vocal chords screaming at their peak, all for her baby back.

I feel like every chapter I write keeps getting worse, I'm so packed with exams and stuff + just stress because of anxiety wow, Alissa can't relate to me.

Anyways, hope you guys liked this chapter! What did you think of it?

Do you think Wyatt went through with the eye surgery, or is there one ounce of human left in him?

Thanks for all the reads, votes & comments. New chapter will be published if this gets to 20 reads, 10 votes and 20 comments!
