Chapter 12: Faith
"Fifty one...fifty two...fifty-" Alissa was interrupted while she counted the cash she had received at the end of the week. She looked over to her side and heard Celare whimpering again, something he did often instead of crying since his mouth didn't open as widely.
Her face relaxed as she picked him up carefully, placing him on her lap. Alissa lifted down her top, going to lift down one of the bra cup's and holding the little boy in a comfortable position which he would be fed in.
Thankfully, Celare calmed down, curiously looking up at his mother as he sucked the milk.
"Fuck, okay. Fifty one, fifty two, fifty three...and fifty four." A sigh of annoyance escaped, mentally scolding herself as she put the cash back into the envelope.
The money she planned on saving up for Celare's cleft lip surgery still wasn't enough. She wanted to get it sooner so that it wouldn't be affecting him for his whole life. Her goal was $5,000 and she only had $500 in the time she had received her paycheck. Alissa kept the envelope on the side table, leaning back and adjusting Celare as she did so.
While he was feeding, Alissa thought about various ways she could get the money without stressing herself out with another job. Stripping? She thought - Ugh no, that's gross.
The thoughts overcrowded her small mind, almost heating up from overthinking about a solution to the problem. So much so, that Celare started to let out a throaty cry, trying to reach his arm out of the baby blue fleece blanket he was wrapped in.
Alissa quickly rushed to burp him, not knowing what would happen if she didn't. Her patience was always fine when it came to Celare, although sometimes the motherly lifestyle got too much for her nineteen year old self to hand.
Once she was able to burp him, she decided it would be time for a small nap, mainly so Alissa wouldn't have to deal with him. She slowly started to rock him in her arms, humming a soothing melody to calm him down and make him sleepier by the second. It took a few minutes, but she finally managed to put him to sleep.
She rested him in the bed she once sat in, making a wall of pillows around him so he wouldn't fall off the bed if he rolled over. Alissa pecked his little nose, smiling pitifully to herself. As she was leaving the room; she bumped into Wyatt - almost screaming in shock.
He was quick to cover her mouth before it opened. A small chuckle escaped his hushed mouth, shaking his head in disbelief at how silly she was acting.
"Oh come on - it's just me. You wouldn't be scared of me, would you?" He inquired with a sarcastic tone.
She shook her head, gulping as she did so. The goosebumps started to arise on her upper arm, slowly making their commute down to her wrist.
"How about we take him out? Just for some fresh air?" Wyatt suggested.
Alissa opened her mouth to reject the offer, but watched him turned around and waltz into the bedroom anyway.
Wyatt scooped the little infant in his arms, smiling gently as he lightly woke him up. He watched Celare start to whimper, trying his hardest to get out of the blanket Alissa had wrapped him up in so tightly.
"You should really stop trying to resist his actions like that. He's clearly not enjoying it." Wyatt called out to Alissa, who stood by the door frame, just watching the two idly.
He unwrapped his son out of the blanket, instead just covering him up with it in case the mid Spring breeze was too cold for him. Or if Alissa insisted he be protected with some kind of warmth.

"Aw look at the little frog!" Alissa gleamed, pointing over to the frog that sat on a rock. She brought her son a little closer, making sure he examined the animal carefully.
Meanwhile Wyatt stood back and watched Alissa take care of her baby, while shooting some footage of the backyard with the old fashion 90s camera he purchased from the thrift store. Once he finally had what he needed, he replaced the negative in the camera and started to take pictures of his surroundings.
"Look! It's a squirrel, let's feed it." Alissa cheered happily. She always had a special place for wildlife animals in her heart, they made her genuinely more happy than her son. Her hands reached into her pockets and grabbed out a few nuts, which she then placed in front of the furry creature.
Wyatt sighed in annoyance as her cheering and happiness bothered him a little. Why can't she just be a little quiet? - He thought to himself. For a moment he contemplated bludgeoning her head with his hammer that lied in his car. But thought it would be too 'emotionally scarring' for Celare to witness. Also, she had a pretty tight grip around him so he would go down with her.
Alissa spent all this time enjoying every bit of nature for herself, that she didn't notice the amount of time Celare rubbed his eyes. Once she did, she frowned in concern.
"Is my little baby sleepy?" She quietly spoke to him, adjusting him in a more comfortable position in which he would be able to sleep in.
No matter how much she hummed, rocked or even sang Celare to sleep. He wouldn't be able to. Maybe the sun is bothering his eyes - She thought to herself. Alissa sighed as she walked around by the lake and sat down nearby it.
The frog had hopped near the mother and son. Alissa took it upon herself to let the small amphibian hop onto her palm, smiling quietly to herself as she held Celare in the other hand.
Celare giggled when he heard the animal croak, but was looking upwards at the partially covered sky instead.
"Ce, look at it! It's the same size as you." Alissa smiled looking at her child, slowly realizing why he was looking at the sky instead of her palm.
I am literally the worst person because I haven't posted this chapter lol. I was too busy studying for my exam and binge watching The Office. If you've watched that show PM me because I'm so obsessed with it right now.
Anyways, what did you guys think of this chapter? I rewrote it like 10 times because I didn't think it was good enough so sorry if it sucks.
Why do you think Celare was looking up at the sky, and not at Alissa's palm? Could Wyatt have something to do with this?
Thank you for the patience, reads, votes, comments and feedback! x
