Chapter 2
Jimins sandals padded along the grass, comparatively silent to all the others as Namjoon guided them towards the new kid. As level head, Namjoon had explained, he was required to show Yoongi and guide him through his classes. The new kid also apparently roomed with seeing that there were no empty beds in their dorms and level head usually dormed alone. So an extra cot would be placed next to Jimin and his privacy would be gone again. But Jimin was used to it though, he had been sharing the normal dorms for almost fifteen years until he was selected as level head and besides there was nothing he could do about it either.
"Over there!" Jeongukk pointed suddenly across the courtyard and Jimins eyes followed his finger as quick as an arrow only to catch his eyes upon a figure that he already knew. He leveled a flat look at jeongukk ."Thats Woozi." Taehyung deadpanned as Jeongukk looked sheepish. Jimin gave him a light backhand slap against the younger's head. "Ow! what was that for hyung!"
"Pay attention to your peers Jeongukk yo-"
"-i need to know my comrades and seniors when I'm in the battlefield. I know Jimin hyung." Jeongukk bit out a kind of bitterness in his tone that had Jimin frowning in sympathy. They didn't choose to be born like this. Almost every one of them dreamed of a different life, dreamed of a better world but they weren't going to get it. He knew that Jeongukk detested war and weaponry, but in this race, if he was going to come out alive, he had to be at the top. All of them had to be.
"There he is!" Namjoon suddenly whisper yelled, his lanky form near jumping with excitement as the eyes of his companions finally met the said boys form. Jimin didnt know what he was expecting, maybe somebody unnaturally beautiful, or unnaturally ugly. Maybe some sort of swaggering beauty. He didnt really know, but it wasn't somebody who looked this ...ordinary.
Pouty lips, wide eyes that gave Jimin the urge to draw them, a button nose and a soft chin with sharp hair that fell in his forehead and a hard jaw that made him disorienting boyish and baby soft and at the same time. His form was worryingly thin, with shirt that hung on his twig like frame, shoulders that could be broad if he put on some muscles and thin legs which peeked from underneath his black shorts. His fingers trembled from the threadbare shawl he was wrapped in, the cold wind biting him into him anyways.
As thin and small as he was, his eyes were alert and held an unflinching and adamant sort of intelligence in them, or maybe a type of intensity that could burn you if you looked too long. Jimin watched as those dragon like charcoal eyes swept over him without stopping, indifference palpable on his features as the sun far above them.
"Hyung did you see that? " jeongukk whjspered to him. "He skipped right over you. "
Now, as self-conceited as it would sound, it was the truth. Jimin with his fiery yet soft eyes, pouty lips and silver hair combined, painted something breathtaking that most people looked twice at, if not giving in completely and staring blatantly at. He had gotten used to the staring, both lustful and awed. The attention he was subjected to since birth, was intensified more so since that day of his fifteenth birthday when his soft brown eyes suddenly took the color of fire. They were the strangest thing about him, seeing that most runegem gifted had different hair colors, all of their eyes were black or brown except his.
They were strange and weird to others, but to him, they were unique and he had grown to love his orbs despite the unwanted attention it received. His mom had been almost hysterical at the sudden change, accusing Jimin of doing drugs or selling himself to the dark lords for such a thing to happen.
Malicious rumors and remarks like those, still sang around him, affecting him more than he would like to admit, but the indifference he was shown was a first. Now more intrigued at the new comer, Taehyung walked in stride with Namjoon as they reached the boy faster than Jimin's short legs could take him. Jimin choose to stay silent as the boy took their forms in again as they came to a stop. Seeing him much closer, Jimin felt the beginnings of a smile on his own lips.
He was just as short as Jimin.
"Hey." Namjoon smiled, eyes curving at the boy in greeting. The black haired boy ran his eyes over the taller boy before nodding. Like, he had more authority than Namjoon, and namjoon had the most authority among students after the descendant's son of course. Namjoon's smile faltered at the show of disrespect or lack of proper respect he supposed, but nevertheless, Namjoon carried on brushing the moment aside.
"You are the new boy right?"namjoon continued apprehensively, suddenly awkward at the face of the small pale boy. "I don't see anybody else new here." The short boy raised an eyebrow and Namjoon looked flustered as a shocked silence enveloped them.
"Welcome to the school." Namjoon tried again, and the boy nodded yet again, eyes restlessly fleeing across the lawns and the walls of the school behind them as though he would like to be anywhere else rather than here as Namjoon ranted out the school's introduction protocol and explained how the things would work out. Usually, Namjoon and the other senior level heads would go through with the briefing together to the new, first level kids who had just begun their schooling. But this time it was to a grown ass boy and Jimin thought the idea itself, even though it was playing out right in front of his eyes, was ridiculous. So ridiculous he was almost expecting the short boy to nod like a kid and put and start pouting when they realized they wouldn't be able to see their parents and toys for a year. But at the same time he didn't.
Jimin was staring, he was aware of it himself as he took in the small mole on the left side of the boy's pink lips, the fluttering eyelashes and the slight glint of the supposed clear rune gem on the inside of his wrist, right below those spindly thin fingers and palm. He wasn't staring because he found the elder attractive, no, it was because he had never seen someone look so mundane yet so stark against the backgrounds, his entire life. He looked like he would fit in right in with all the paper thin and weighed down shoulders of the academy but there was there was this slight aura that felt off.
Like he was confused and anxious, even though the boy's face was blank. His slouched shoulders were almost defensive looking to Jimin rather than that carless and lazy look the other boy had gone for. The way he slightly angle his hand to not show the runegem showed that he was laert and smart. But what made him even more curious was, where was this boy all this time?
Jimin knew for the fact that, all runegem gifted people in this country were required to attend this academy, as it was the only one. Sure, other continents had many academies and such but ever country had only one and all rune gem weilders were required to go, otherwise, they technically didn't really learn how to use their gift to their full potential and would end up homeless or at the scraps of non gifted humans.
As though sensing Jimin's thought's the pale boy's onyx eyes snagged onto Jimin's fiery ones. And stayed there. His eyes were searching, looking into Jimin's eyes like they were a familiar maze and Jimin mouth parted at the intensity. He usually would scoff and look away to wanting or lustful stares, or just plain ignore them, but there he was , unable to because this was a stare he had not been used to and he didn't know why.
The onyx eyes felt like a vaccum, drowning and absorbing him into outerspace and something inside him went snap. It made him flinch noticeably and yet his eyes stayed on their target. It seemed like he was unable to, the words and voices seemed static as the boy's eyes widened as he assessed Jimin more sharply. But too soon his attention was knocked off, their stare disrupted by Namjoon's voice as Yoongi's eyes flickered dazedly trying to process the words.
"-Assigned to senior level," Namjoon was saying, Jimin finally understood as the static cleared. His mouth was dry and his breath were little more than short gasps and yet he did not know why.
"And?" The boy didnt look surprised or smug or anything in fact, maybe because he wasn't yet aware how the academy system worked.
A sudden wave of apprehensiveness and nervousness came over him, almost making him quesy.Shaking the weird feeling off he focused on the new boy, brushing it off to symptoms of an oncoming fever. He wasn't nevervous or afraid of such a mtter, sure he hadn't been subjected to this kind of situation before, but didn't mean he should be making such a fuss about it. He could handle this, it was just another new kid, like the start of the term...except in the middle of term with no explained reason, admitted in a way that had never been happened before.
Right.
"-to Jimin." Namjoon was saying and Jimin startled at the sound of his name looking around in confusion. His eyes almost fled to Yoongi's like a magnet but he hid just in time, choosing to let his vison fleet over the boy's head and onto Taehyung and Jungkook inste\ad. Taehyung was grinning cheekily enough to make Jimin feel embarrassed.
"What about me?" Jimin asked sheepishly and turned red in embarrassment as the pale new boy scoffed at him lightly. Jimin felt himself go stiff before he chose to ignore the white gost. Yes, white ghost was a perfect name for him. With a skin like that and eyes like that, he could pass as one easily, all he need now was some blood or possibly some haunted wailing. The thought made Jimin grin internally.
"I said that he was assigned to you." Namjoon smiled soothingly and the younger nodded, he had only gotten the position of level head a few days back while Namjoon had been the level head for three years in a row and now he was academy student president too. As clumsy as he was, Namjoon knew how to handle tough situations better than anybody Jimin knew and he was grateful for Namjoon's reassuring comfort as he tried to balance his new responsibilities.
"Him?" The word was a bite of intrigue and doubt but it had no particular offense to it, but in his embarrassment, the word sounded harsher than they were.
"Yeah me." Jimins back straightened as he took a step forward. "Sorry for blanking out earlier...you just threw me off for a bit. I mean it's not every day a person like you just gets into the academy. " Jimin bluntly said with a smile. He had expected the boy to be stunned into silence or even a snarky remark but instead he found his blood riling up as the strange boys smile only widened even as the others stiffened in wary.
"Its not everyday you get to see a person with eyes the likes of yours either. " The pale boy smirked and jimins eyebrows arched in surprise. With the boy's indifference he had thought that the raven had not noticed it, turns out he did not care Jimin thought, a vague feeling in his chest filling his chest for some reason he could not place.
"My name is Jimin. Park Jimin." Jimin smiled a genuine eye smile, one that increased as the boy gave a hesitant, almost apprehensive one back. It looked like his cheeks were straining, as though it was rusty from disuse, yet the soft laugh lines around his eyes spoke otherwise.
"Min Yoongi."
