Chapter 5

“Run the tests again Mark, these results just can’t be right.”

Alex said to Mark Wells, his Chief geneticist. The results of the cross DNA testing were showing traits of cohabitation. That just couldn’t be right! With results like those, all the hard work that Alex has done would be for nothing.

Alex handed back the test results to Mark, he was about the say something when the door to his office was opened. Alex looked up to see who the intruder was and groaned.

“Jessica, what can I do for you?”

The way in which the words were spoken was anything but welcoming. Alex didn’t had time to waste on meaningless interruptions and Jessica Littman was just that. Meaningless!

Jessica was just another one on the women in his life, who wanted nothing more than money from him. He once thought himself in love with her, even proposed to her. Only to find out that money was the only thing on her mind. She had no interest in loving him as a person.

He would like to say that he regretted the day that he met her, but saying that would be a lie. Jessica was the first woman to open his eyes the greediness of her kind. He never knew the lengths women would go to for money, until he met her. However, that never stopped him form believing that real love still exist somewhere out there. Maybe if he had harden his heart, Amber would never have been able to complete ripped it to shreds.

Alex cursed himself in his head for thinking about Amber. It been four weeks since his last encounter with her. The shock look on her beautiful face, was constantly playing out in his head. He should have known better than to trust her. He knew almost nothing about her, she always kept herself closed off and almost everything about her was a mystery.

He found her mysterious ways intriguing, so he never pressed her for answers. What Alex was finding hard to understand is, why she did what she did? He knew it wasn’t about the money because she never asked him, or indicated in any way that she was after his money. She would refused his gifts and she never complained about her life, or hinted in any way that she was wanting for anything. So why did she lie?

“Alex darling, why so harsh? After all we been through.”

Alex train of thoughts were cut short by Jessica’s slurry voice. She had a sad little pout on her red lips. His eyes travelled over her body. She wore a body hugging, smart black dress that stopped just short of her knees. Bright red stilettos that enhanced the length of her long legs and slender curvaceous body. Her long red hair fell in waves around her heart shape face. Her big blue eyes roaming over him, with a hint of lust.

Alex admitted to himself that she was beautiful. However, her beauty did absolutely nothing for him. Gritting his teeth he asked again, his annoyance clearly showing.

“What can I do for you, Jessica?”

The pout dropped from her lips and annoyance set it. He smiled to himself. This was the Jessica he knew and detested. She cast a look at Mark, who was standing to the side watching the scene play out.

“Can we do this in private?”

Alex nodded to Mark. “That will be all Mark.”

Mark left the room, however, he was still casting lustful looks at Jessica. Alex chuckled to himself, if the poor bastard only knew how much venom was wrapped up in that beautiful package.

When the door to his office was closed, Alex turned his attention back to Jessica. Gone was the innocent looking woman and in her place was the vengeful, cold hearted bitch that he knew.

She took a seat in the chair across from him, narrowing her eyes at him. Alex arched his eye brow, amused. He sat back in his chair, folded his arms and waited for her to speak. She shifted in her seat and a sweet smile appeared on her face. However, the hatred she held in her heart for him was evident in her blue eyes.

“Where is she, Alex?”

Alex gave her a confused look, he damn well knew who she was talking about, but he was not about to fall into whatever trap she was setting.

Jessica jumped from her seat, furious. She banged her hands on the table, causing Alex to smirk.

“Cut the crap Alex, you know damn well who I’m talking about!”

Alex carefully put back the files that went flying in disarray, in their perspective places. He took his precious time. Jessica used her hands to swipe the newly arrange files away.

“Damn it Alex, answer me!”

“Careful Jess, you might break a nail.” Alex said, infuriating Jessica more.

“Don’t play games with me Alex, she’s mine! You had no right to take her!”

Alex stood as well, his anger raising too. “Don’t you mean to say, she’s ours? I have a child, a daughter that you kept from me for 5 years. Fear not Jessica, Emily is safe and far from your clutches and that is the way she shall stay.”

Jessica stood furious. Her only hope of getting what should have been hers in the first place, was gone. She could care less about the bastard child. Alex owed her, she put 4 years into that relationship with him. Her name should have been, Mrs Jessica Christopher. Instead he had the nerve to dump her. Her! No one dumps Jessica Littman. When she found out that she was pregnant, her first thought was to get rid of the beast. However, she thought of a better way to use the baby. She needs that horrid child to get what is owed to her.

“You give her back now, Alex! You can’t take away my daughter.”

“I think you’ll find that I can. Cut the caring mother act Jessica, you and I both know that you’re anything but. A loving mother would not have left her daughter to be raised by strangers, only to ever see her twice in a month.”

Jessica had nothing to say to that. She couldn’t stand the little witch, she was just a means to an end. Alex was not supposed to find out about her until the time was right. If she didn’t need the child to keep her in the life she came accustom to living, she would have gladly told him to keep the beast. However, ever since her father lost his company, her family was border line broke. She refused to be poor and working was not for her. She needs that child!

“Who told you about her?” She asked, gritting her teeth.

Alex return to his seat and folded her arms before answering her.

“It’s doesn’t matter how I found out. All that matter is that you’ll never be seeing her again.”

“Alex, you c…”

“I’ve had enough of this conversation. Leave now!” Alex cut her off, not allowing her to finish.

Jessica was about to say something else, when a call came through on the intercom.

“Mr Christopher, you have a Brian Parker here to see you. Shall I send him in?”

Alex pressed the button on the intercom and spoke. “Yes please Talia.”

He sat back and looked at Jessica who was shooting daggers at him. “As you can see, I’ve got work to do. So if you can kindly let yourself out?”

Without waiting for her to reply, Alex rearrange the files onto this desk once more. Jessica grabbed her purse and stormed over to the door and left, but not before saying.

“This isn’t over, Alex!”

Just as she was leaving, a young man entered Alex’s office. Alex was frozen to his seat. He barely heard as the man introduced himself.

“Hello, I’m Brian Parker.”

Alex look at the young man with grave interest. The mirror image of Amber was staring back at him. That could only mean one thing, Brian Parker was Amber’s brother. Alex was intrigued to know what the young man wanted with him.

Finding his voice, he said.

“Take a seat Mr Parker and I’m interested to know how I may be of help.”
