Bright Lights and Deja Vu Again

"You promised Cian!"

That's all I can hear over and over. Like Deja Vu, her words play again. A shock to my soul has me wanting to scream out loud. And just like that, the damn beeping noise starts going again.

"He's stable again."

I hear in the distance. Their voices are muffled but I can still hear what they're saying.

"What the fuck happened!?" Her voice rings out in anger.

"Language." Matty mumble out in exhaustion. It makes me want to chuckle at his parental skills.

"Answer her. We want to know what the hell just happened!" Val yells out with authority dripping from his voice.

"He has no bleeds, no complications from surgery, everything was fine. He should have been peacefully in a coma until his body is healed." I'm assuming the doctor explains.

"That doesn't explain his coding dude." Gi snaps.

"It makes no sense if he's quote on quote fine how did he just crashed a few hours ago!" Jul's growls out in frustration. I mean, they have points here. If I was technically out of death's grip, how did I code? What caused it. I strain my ears to try to hear an explanation.

"My guess, my assumption is, Lucian must be fighting himself. Part of him wants to give up, yet the other half still wants to fight." A female's voice rings out loud and clear.

"No, he wouldn't do that. He doesn't give up. That's not Cian and you honestly don't understand him." Gem's voice is strong and delivers her message loud and clear to my soul.

It feels like my face is on fire. They think I gave up?! They think I want to leave this Earth without saying goodbye to my Gem first. I'm thankful she knows me the best. If she didn't l, she'd believe these utter jackasses. And if she had done that, my sister would be shattered yet again.... All because of me.

If I was awake, I'd punch someone's teeth out.

"Another assumption I believe happened is he's having dreams, memories, or both. One of them must have spiked his heart rate and bottomed it out afterwards. Which means, he crashed as he had done. Because, I've known this boy since he was born, I don't believe he'd give up just like that." A familiar doctor's voice sang.

"Now that, that I can believe." Dad agrees.

"Who would he be dreaming about? Or having nightmares about?" Max questions. Mentally, I'm rolling my eyes. A slam fills the room and soon after Max's grunt can be heard.

"Gem who else would it be. I know it damn sure isn't you or I or any other sibling.... No offense." Alonzo's grumbles out. With the sound of Gem's name, the beeping quickens slightly. As if it's my way of communicating.

"Yo! His heart rate is picking back up again!" Leo sounds alarmed.

"I'm the reason he's coding?" Gem says with horror.

"He isn't coding. This is a great heart rate. Maybe, if you speak with him, hold his hand, he'll calm down." Matty softly says. His tone is one he uses to always calm her fears.

"What if." Gem mumbles.

"It'll be okay. I think he wants you near." Ren finally speaks. I can hear small footsteps get closer. A chair scraps the ground. Soon a small hand grabs ahold of mine. Mentally, I'm smiling. The beeping steadies out again.

"See." Jul's chuckles out. "He just wants his sister, his light beside him." He softly says.

When does he have a soft voice?!

"What do I do?" She questions.

"Tell him stories? Speak to him like he's awake? Tell him about your day? Just hold his hand? I mean, if I was in his shoes, I'd want the same thing. Before you ask, it's because you, Gem is what keeps us glued. You're each of our lights and if any of these fools say differently, they're lying. You'll always be our light even on our death bed. Trust me, our brother just needs you right by his side." Juls explains to our sister.

"She's my lifeline." Dad agrees.

"My heart beat." Val quickly says.

"Oxygen we need." Niko says.

"The moonlight on the darkest nights." Ren comments.

"The sun through cloudy days." Matty replies.

"The North Star to guide us home." Gi comments.

"Haley's Comet." Lonzo says louder than the rest.

"She's my whole world." Leo and Vin both say at the same time. I wouldn't have guessed anything else since they're triplets after all.

"My left shoe." Max happily says.

"Did he just say his left shoe?!" Juls questions in shock.

"Let me explain. Shoes are in pairs. You have two shoes. If I'm the right shoe, she's my left shoe. I need my left shoe to have a completed set." Max again explains.

"Left shoe. Out of everything a left shoe?" Gi again questions in confusion. Gems laughter fills the room.

"I'll gladly be your left shoe. As long as it's a new pair of shoes, sir." She chuckles out.

"When life gives you lemons you make lemonade." Gems voice rings out.

"More like you throw it at your enemies faces." Max comments.

"You don't want any of my lemonade?" Gems voice saddens.

"No, I'll just grab some water." Everyone comments.

"I'll have some lemonade." I tell her. Her bright smile flashes my way as she hands me a cup. Taking a sip, my face contorts. Her lemonade is always tart. Too much lemons, yet I never have the heart to tell her.

"Do you like it?" She questions. With everyone stares, I speak through my locked jaws.

"It's fantastic."

The room erupts into laughter yet, Gemma wraps her hand around my waist. Her head buried into my chest.

"Thank you." Her voice is muffled.

What seems like hours of memories and dreams playing in my head; Gem still had ahold of my hand.

"Remember you promised me Cian." She whispers out as lips gently kiss my forehead. It's like a switch had been turned on because my eyes start to roll around behind my closed eyelids.

Come on.

Open your eyes!

If not for you, or your family, do it for your sister.

My eyes pop open which causes my eyes to sting. The first thing I see is Gemma and her bright eyes.

"I knew it." She says with a smile across her face.

This feels like Deja Vu all over again. But I am not complaining. I'm finally awake.
