Days after the Coronation, things got pretty wild up. Rapunzel began to have dreams of her hair and Gothel coming back again. When she woke up, she found her hair was floating until it falls to the ground. Now, Cassandra and (Y/n) were in Rapunzel's room as she was telling them about her dreams. While she was talking, Cassandra finished braiding Rapunzel and (Y/n)'s hair.

(Like Cassandra, (Y/n) will change into her old cloak outfit when she goes out and when she's at the castle, she will wear her regular princess dress, also she kept the hair style the four girls did on her and her sister.)

"Come on, Cass and (N/n)! Those dreams are trying to tell me something! Ever since that night-" Cassandra quickly shushes Rapunzel before anyone else could hear them. "Shh! Raps, I told you, we can't tell anyone about that night."

"Cass, you know that the secret is out now, right?" (Y/n) turned to Cassandra. "Yeah, yeah, everyone knows that your sister hair's back, but if anyone knew I was the one who snuck you both out when it happened, I would be sent to a convent. Literally, a convent." Cassandra tired to explain again. "Well, I have to tell Eugene." Rapunzel asked.
"No, no, no, no, no." Cassandra and (Y/n) shocked their heads. "As far as he knows, you just woke up that morning with long hair." Cassandra said.

"But Eugene is my boyfriend! We tell each other everything!"

"I know this is a lot to ask, but I can't risk it. Please, don't tell Eugene."

"Tell Eugene what?" Eugene suddenly appears. He walks inside feeling left out. "Oh, come on, you guys keeping secrets?"

"It's not really a secret, Eugene, it's more like a... sensitive situation." Rapunzel tried to explained calmly.

"Sensit- S- Ha! Sensitive? And you think Cassandra's gonna help? Now I understand (Y/n), but Blondie, I've met glaciers with more warmth and compassion. And move faster, she's slow. Rapunzel, it's me, Eugene. Whatever's going on you can tell me." Eugene grabbed her hands as he smiled at her. "I know I can, it's-" Cassandra interrupts Rapunzel. "I don't trust you! You have a big mouth." Eugene crossed his arms at her. "I do not. Name one time I blew a secret."

Cassandra began to list off the things that Eugene has blurted out. First it was the queen's gift from her daughters. He spoiled the surprise by saying the gift was a scarf. Second, it was when two dignitaries were leaving. Eugene revealed everyone's true feeling about dreading the visit. Lastly, it was when Eugene accidentally ruins Cassandra's surprise party by getting the wrong date.

Eugene glares at Cassandra for naming more than one thing about him not keeping a secret. I said one time! Rapunzel, (Y/n) you're both really not gonna tell me?" Eugene looked at the sisters.

"We're sorry, Eugene but we can't tell you." (Y/n) shook her head. "Fine. But you should know, I have things I keep from you. Lots of things." Eugene brags as he exited the room. "Name one." Cassandra wasn't convinced. Eugene thought for a moment and found one secret. Pete, the guard, is terrified of mimes." Eugene revealed as Pete walks by. "Hey! They see things that aren't there." Pete walks away terrified. Weirdly, Ulf the Mime walks by, holding an invisible rope and he waves at the others. Seeing Cassandra's point, Eugene goes after Pete to try to apologize to him. Rapunzel saw why Cassandra wouldn't want him to find out what happened to them outside the walls.

Outside the castle, (Y/n) and Rapunzel were enjoying the fresh air as they were writing in their journals. They little animal friends were in their shoulders as they viewed their human friends work. (Y/n) would give them some grapes to eat as they worked. As they continued to work on their journals, they saw Cassandra walking towards them. "I was thinking about your hair." She takes a seat next to them. "Maybe there's a way we can discreetly try to get some answers, just the three of us. I might know someone who can help."

"I still think you're being unfair about Eugene. But, um, who is this friend of yours?" True, Rapunzel did felt bad but she wanted to know who could help.

"His name is Varian, and he's some kind of wizard." Cassandra explains. Rapunzel gasped. "Wow! A real wizard?" Brielle and Pascal gaped in excitement. "Do you think he'll have one of those pointy hats, and like, a robe and a staff and cast spells?" Rapunzel excitedly asked.

(Y/n) giggles at her big sister. "I don't think so, sis. I remember hearing about him. Very little is known about Varian. Some say he's dangerous." (Y/n) explains of what she's heard. "But if we want answers, he's our best bet. Right?" Rapunzel questioned. Cassandra nods at her. Rapunzel thought for a moment. She lets out a sigh as she made her choice. "Well, sounds like we have a wizard to visit."

Once Cassandra and (Y/n) were out of their dresses and into their more outdoor outfits, the girls went to get Fidella. Getting her saddled up, they went to Old Corona to see the mysterious wizard. In no time they made it to Old Corona. They stopped Fidella and went towards the home of Varian.

"So, this is where Varian lives. It seems cozy, in an I-wish-I-had-said-goodbye-to-my-loved-ones-before-I-left kind of way." Rapunzel said as the three of them walked towards the door. Suddenly the door opens by itself. The three of them entered inside cautiously. "Just watch your step, Raps and (N/n). Come on, this way." Cassandra warns as she lead the way. They entered inside a room where purple fog was sprouting. As they walked deeper into the room, Cassandra accidentky steps on a wire and it sets off a booby trap. The trap throws a mysterious ball at them and it causes them to get stuck to the floor with a sticky goo. "Of course, a booby trap." (Y/n) face palmed herself. "(Y/n), relax, everything's gonna be- oh!" She stopped when they saw a mysterious figure near them. "What do you want?" He asked with a distorted voice. No one didn't say anything, until Rapunzel spoke. "Um hi. So sorry to bother you, sir. I wanted to ask you about my hair. Because you're such a magic exp-" She was interrupted by the mysterious figure known as Varian. "Magic?! I do not work with magic!" He unmasked himself to reveal a boy the same age as (Y/n). "I mean, technically, it's not magic. It's alchemy, but yeah don't don't sweat it." Varian said in his normal voice. Rapunzel lets out a nervous laugh. "Got it. So, what is this?"

"Oh, it's it's a chemical compound of my own design. Thank you." Varian puts his lab coat and mask to the side. "See, we have a bit of a critter problem out here, and, through the miracle of modern alchemy, I have found a humane way to solve the problem." He goes over to a raccoon and frees it back to the wild. "Wow, thats really impressive, but could you get us out this, please." (Y/n) asked kindly.

"Where is that neutralizing parti-" Before Varian could free them, the raccoon came back. "Oh! C-Come get outta here!" He gets the raccoon out of his lab. Varian laughs as he uses the neutralizing particles to release them. "I am so sorry, Your Highnesses." Varian bowed down

"Your Highnesses"? Wait. You know who we are?" Rapuznel asked.

"Uh, how could I not?  Look at your hair!" Varian turns to look over (Y/n). "I only know one princess who carries around a staff with her. Ha! Your highnesses." he clears his throat.

"Oh, please. Just Rapunzel." Rapunzel insisted. "Im okay with (Y/n)." (Y/n) smiled. "Wow. Really? Okay. So, fantastical stories of your hair returning have spread throughout Corona. Yeah, people say it's magic, but personally, I don't really believe that." Varian looked at Rapunzel's hair Now, as you have probably guessed, I am a man of science, - specifically, al-"

"Alchemy. We know. Now listen, kid. We need your help, but let me make something clear. What happens here stays here, you got it?" Cassandra grips on Varian's shirt as she questioned him. "Case, put him down." (Y/n) crossed her arms. Right now, Varian is examining Rapunzel's hair with a huge magnifying glass. "Oh, yes, this this Ah is it's very long." He moves the magnifying glass. "Oh, no, don't worry, Your High Rapunzel. I am sure that I, Varian, can unlock the mystery of your hair with the power of science!" Not even knowing, he moved the magnifying glass all the way around and it hits his head. "No sweat, it's just a little-" Varian babbles and collapsed at the sight of blood.

(Y/n) helps Varian up as he sister wraps her hair around his head. She begins to sing her healing incantation. Varian was confused about it as Brielle and Pascal pointed to his head, signaling that it will heal. Rapunzel concludes her song. "Better?" She asked.

"Oh, yeah- No!" Varian quickly looks away from the blood in his hand.

"Huh that used to work." Rapunzel was disappointed that she couldn't heal anymore.

"Well, silver lining: We've acquired some critical data about your hair. It no longer possesses its legendary healing power. Progress! Now let's figure out exactly what this hair is made of." Varian gets up to examine Rapunzel's hair more. "Hold on, Varian. I think we should clean up that wound before it gets infected." (Y/n) explained. "Oh don't worry about, your high- I mean (Y/n)." Varian said. (Y/n) wasn't going to take no for an answer. She takes Varian to sit down. She grabs a clean rag and water as she cleans up his wound. Seeing that it was all disinfected, Varian thanked her and went back to a machine to help them with Rapunzel's hair. "This machine can analyze any substance for chemical makeup, bitopic composition, and urgu-structural integrity. - I built it myself." Varian explains.

"Nice!" Rapunzel and (Y/n) smiled. "If I'm right, this should tell us all there is know about your hair." Varian explains as he goes to the controls. "Raps, are you sure you wanna - Rapunzel?" Cassandra was shocked to see Rapunzel strapped on to the machine. "Let's do this." Rapunzel said with determination in her eyes. (Y/n) finishes strapping her sister in and she goes next to Varian with Pascal and Brielle on her shoulders.

"Okay! Rapunzel. Now, um, this may get a little-" Rapunzel cuts out Varian with an exciting tone. "Exciting?"

"Um, sure! Yeah! That's a good word for it." Varian starts the machine. The machine activates as it begins to pull and twist Rapunzel along with her hair. Just looking at her in the machine made (Y/n) a little dizzy. Finally the machine stopped. "And there we are! Done."

"All right. Not super fun, but it's over." Rapunzel laughs nervously. "Ha! Oh, sorry. Yeah, I- I meant done with the first test. But don't worry, only 86 more to go!" Varian explains as he started the machine again. A blade appears from the machine as it tries to cut Rapunzel's. "Amazing! You were right, it's absolutely unbreakable!" Varian exclaims in excitement as he and (Y/n) would duck from the items thrown at them. Suddenly the door was kicked open and it was Eugene who entered inside. "But I'm betting you're not! Let her go!" He demands.

"Eugene! Hey!" Rapunzel greeted nervously.

"Blondie! You're okay! You wanna tell me what's goin' on here?" Eugene questioned. Rapuznel looked at (Y/n) and Cassandra. They gave her a silent plead to keep her quiet. She laughed nervously at her boyfriend. "You know what? I don't care. I'm gettin' you outta there." Eugene goes over to get Rapunzel out of the machine.

"Hey! You're Flynn Rider!" Varian exclaims with a smile on his face.

"No. You don't know what you're talking about. I've never seen you before in my life. You can't prove anything!" Eugene denied anything about his old persona.

Varian lets out a nervous laugh. "I'm your biggest fan!" He goes over to the side and opens a sheet to reveal a post of Eugene and books. "See?"

"Hey, now! Flynn Rider, nice to be met." Eugene greeted.

"I used to see your wanted posters all the time! You're my hero!"

"Oh, well, "hero" is a bit much."

Varian brought out a whole stack of book as he began to gush about the adventures Eugene's gone. Seeing what Varian meant, Eugene tried to explained that he took the name Flynn Rider from the book.Varian didn't pay attention as he continued to fanboy more about his adventures. Cassandra smirked at them since Eugene was being distracted. (Y/n) thought Varian was cute when he was acting like a fanboy. She realized what she was thinking and her face was blushing as she tried to get her thoughts together. "This isn't right, Cassandra. I have to tell him what's going on." Rapunzel tried to reason with Cassandra. "No. Rapunzel, I want to trust you, and I trust that you trust Eugene, but I don't trust Eugene, and if I can't trust Eugene, I can't trust you, and you're just going to have to trust me. Trust me, that logic tracks." Cassandra tried to explain to Rapuznel. (Y/n) looked confused on Cassandra's logic. "That was really confusing, Cass." Varian continued to act like a fanboy as he asked more questions about Eugene's adventure. Eugene tried to explain but Varian still wouldn't listen. Suddenly, everyone began to feel the room rumbling.

"What was that trembling?" Eugene asked.

"Trembling? I didn't notice any trembling. Oh! Yeah! Almost forgot to get the spectrometric press! It's the only way I can read the results of the test! Flynn Rider! Wanna come with?" Varian invited Eugene to come along with him.

"Oooh! No." Eugene pretends to think for a moment before giving his answer.

"Hey! If- If- If you come, I can show you something really special, but, um, you've got to keep it a secret."

"You want to tell me a secret? Did you hear that, everyone? Varitas-V- Var-"

"Varian!"

"A complete stranger wants to tell me a secret!"

Eugene and Varian left to the the spectrometric press. Once they left, Rapunzel was still being tested on what her hair was made of. (Y/n) would have to pull Brielle and Pascal close to her as they ducked from the items that were tossed aside. Right now, Rapuznel was being shaken in the machine. " Only 12 more tests to go!" Rapunzel said in a shaky voice. The bell dings, ending another test. "Yaaaay!" (Y/n) looked at her sister nervously. "I hope this tests ending quickly because I'm getting nervous for you, Rapunzel."

"Team Awesome is ba-aaack!" Varian enters the room first. He goes next to Rapunzel. "Now, Rapunzel, I know my tests have been a pain in the hm-hm."

"Aw, I wouldn't say pain." Suddenly, Rapunzel was shocked by the machine as electricity was sprouted out. Part of her hair was fizzy. "Now I would." (Y/n) goes over to her sister as she tried to fix up her hair. Sadly, she got a bit shocked at first.

"In a moment, this little guy... he'll give us all the answers we want." Varian sets up the spectrometric press. (Y/n) sits next to him. "This will give us the answers? That's amazing." She smiled at him. Varian blushed as he smiled at her back.

"So, Eugene! Got yourself a secret, huh?" Cassandra tried to see if Eugene could keep a secret. "If you wanna call it that. That kid ha- uh-uh, nice try, Cass." Eugene quickly caught himself. Again, the room was rumbling until it stopped. "Look, Raps, I think it's time to go. Now." Eugene said. "Now? You're kidding, right? This is almost finished." Rapunzel said.Eugene goes over varian. He saw that Varian was showing (Y/n) how to use the spectrometric press. He mutters to Varian. "Can we talk?" Varian hops next to Eugene. "Uh-ha, of course! That's what Team Awesome does! Whoa!" Eugene gabs Varian and ran outside. (Y/n) was a bit upset since she couldn't hang out with Varian right now. After a short moment, Eugene comes back inside. He looked over at the machine. "All right! Six more tests. Then we can leave, right? Go someplace far away? Really, really far away."

"Why do you want us to leave so bad?" Cassandra questioned. "Oh no you can stay. In fact, it'd be great if you stayed. That way, when these things blow u- Oh, boy, never mind." Eugene accidentally blurts out. (Y/n) stood up from the floor. "Wait! What did you just say?!"

"Eugene, what is wrong with you?" Rapunzel questioned her boyfriend.

"Okay! You wanna know why we have to go?" Eugene looked at the three girls. The machine dings as it reveals it 3 tests left. "Look, I tried to show you I could keep a secret, but I can't! This kid-" He stopped when he felt the rumbling again. The bell dings again, 2 more tests left.  "Varian's got five of these huge, highly-pressurized underground machines and they are clearly unstable. I think they could blow up any minute!" Eugene explains rapidly.Outside the window the ground starts bursting from below. "You mean now?" (Y/n)'e eyes widen. "Get me out of this machine!" Rapuznel began to panic. The machine digs one last time as it does its final test. "Um, guys? Hurry!"

Eugene began to pull on the levers, Cassandra swings her sword, and (Y/n) was using her staff to try to get Rapunzel out of the machine. Eugene uses Varian's new sword to stop the machine. Once it stopped, everyone tried to get Rapuznel out of the machine. Rapunzel calls out to Eugene. They saw Varian from the window as he was running across the village. "Varian! He's gonna get himself killed!" Eugene exclaims. "You guys get my sister out of here. I'll go get Varian!" (Y/n) ordered as she runs after Varian. "(Y/n), get back here!" Cassandra yells. Too late, she didn't have time to chance after (Y/n), she had orders to save her sister.

(Y/n) saw Varian and chases after him. Lots of debris were falling everywhere as they tried to avoid it. Seeing that she was close enough to Varian, she grabs him.

"Varian, we have to get out of here! Its too dangerous here!" (Y/n) pleads to him.

"No, no! Ugh! No, I've got three pumps to shot off, and I can't let this happen again!" Varian explains. 'Again?' (Y/n) thought. Suddenly, an explosion goes off and a piece of debris falls towards (Y/n). She gasped at how close it was coming towards her. "Princess (Y/n)!" Varian pulls (Y/n) close to him as the piece of debris entraps them. The earthquake continues for a short moment until it finishes. Seeing that it was over, Varian and (Y/n) climbed out of the metal pipe. Varian helps (Y/n) up. "Are you okay, (Y/n)" Varian checks to see if (Y/n) was alright. "Yeah, I'm alright. Thank you for the save, kind sir." (Y/n) playfully bowed. "You're welcome, m'lady." Varian bows back. They both laughed at their own joke, until they heard someone calling out for Varian. They saw a man looking through the debris and some villagers were coming outside to see the mess. The man saw them and ran towards them. (Y/n) quickly puts her hood on to hide her identity. "Uh-oh. It's my dad." Varian told. He climbs out and he helps (Y/n) down.

Varian's father, Quirin examines his son for any injuries. "Are you okay? What happened?"

"Dad, I'm sorry." Varian apologized for his mistake. "Not again, Varian." Quirin was disappointed. "But, Dad-" Varian tried to speak, but he was cut off by his father. "Is everybody okay?" (Y/n) placed her hand on Varian's shoulder.

After everything was settled, Eugene, Cassandra, and Rapunzel were getting ready to head back to the castle. (Y/n) was talking to Varian. "Don't worry, Varian. I'll tell my dad there was an earthquake and I'm sure he'll be happy to help his people."

"Thanks, (Y/n), but I still feel pretty bad about today." Varian lowered his head. "You know, for what's its worth, I think your invention is pretty cool. Making a machine to give people hot running water is amazing." (Y/n) smiled. Varian looked shocked. "You really think so?" (Y/n) nods at him. "All you need to do is learn from your mistakes and see how you can improve your inventions." Knowing (Y/n) was right, Varian will follow her advise. They heard Cassandra calling out for (Y/n). Telling her it was time to get home. (Y/n) felt a bit down since they had to leave. "Well, it was great meeting you, Varian. I hope I can see you again." (Y/n) kisses Varian's cheek and walked towards Cassandra. Varian blushed as he placed his gloved hand on his cheek. His smile grew wider as he waved at (Y/n). Riding behind Cassandra, (Y/n) waved back at him. Rapunzel saw the smile on her little sister's face. "You seem happy." (Y/n) giggles. "I made a new friend....and I hope to see him again." (Y/n) turned away as she blushed. The other chuckled at her face as they rode back to the castle, but what they didn't know that an old dangerous event is back to find them.
