Today is the day of the Great Science Expo. It was also today that Cassandra wanted to be a guard at the expo, but she had to do her lady-in-waiting duties. So to help lighten the load, (Y/n) has often to help with some of the chores Cassandra has. Right now, (Y/n) was hanging a sign with Owl and Brielle's help.

"I hope this is enough to help out, Cass. I wish I could do something for the expo, but I got no ideas." (Y/n) was talking to Owl and Brielle. "Let's hope this expo will be a fun one." And her wish came true when she heard a familiar voice from behind. "Who's ready for the expo?" It was Varian. "Hey, (N/n)! Hey, you wanna see my new invention? Rumor has it it is a shoo-in for the first prize in the contest. I started the rumor."Varian whispered the last time.

(Y/n) smiled at her friend's antics. "Hey, Varian. It's been a while. I would love to see your invention, but I got these chores...." Varian cuts her off. "Oh, yeah, I... I hear ya. Hey, so did I tell you that my invention can create an entirely new element? I call it..." 

Suddenly a maid comes towards the youngest princess, "Sorry to interrupt, Princess (Y/n), but could you come to help us with some chores really quick?" (Y/n) slapped her forehead. She forgot that she promised to help out the servants with their chores to lighten the stress of today. "Oh man, I forgot. Sure, I'm on my way." (Y/n) slides down the ladder and walks off with the maid. "I'll see you around, Varian." She waved at him. What she didn't know is that when she left, she didn't tie the banner properly. Owl and Brielle quickly grabbed onto the rope before it could fall. Varian saw the two animals in distress and quickly went to help. Once he tied the banner properly, he heard a voice behind him. 

"Hey, (Y/n)! Lookin' good, little sister!" It was Rapunzel and she was wearing a helmet with goggles on them. "You should see some of the inventions on display! Look at these crazy goggles!" Once she adjusted the goggles, she saw who she was really talking to. "Oh. Hi, Varian! I haven't seen you since we..." Rapunzel was cut off by her boyfriend. "Since your last invention almost killed us. And (Y/n) ran off to cool down at your place. So glad you're here. With what looks like another invention." 

"Please, I wouldn't miss a chance to promote the merits of alchemy. And wait until you see my invention. I think, uh, everyone at the expo will be impressed. (Y/n) is gonna be here, right? Not that I'm doing this for (Y/n)! But, yes, she's gonna be there, right?" Varian blushed at the thought of the second princess coming to see his show. 

After (Y/n) helps out the maids with their chores for now, (Y/n) and Cassandra talk to see what they still need in order to finish. "I still have this long list to go and I'll be a guard for today," Cassandra explains. (Y/n) looks through the list before she rips it in half. "I'll take this half and you'll take this half. That way we can finish up faster." (Y/n) hands Cassandra her half. "Good thinking, (N/n)." Cassandra smiled before she left to finish half of the chores. Right now, (Y/n) was setting up the tables by making sure the tablecloth is clean and flower arrangements were organized. As she was focused on her task, she didn't notice Varian standing behind her.

"There you are, (N/n). We, uh, we didn't finish our conversation from earlier." Varian tried t act look. "Oh, sorry, Varian. I didn't mean to be rude." (Y/n) scratched the back of her head nervously. 

"Oh, don't worry! You weren't!" Varian blushed from making (Y/n) embarrassed. "Seriously, I'm getting ready for the expo, and I think you'll be pretty impressed with my invention, yeah. The only thing is when I present it to Master Dr. St. Croix, it's gonna take two people to operate it. Hey! Wanna be the assistant for my demonstration?" He asked her. "Wait, me? Oh, Varian, I would love to but-" (Y/n) didn't notice that she spilled grape juice on the tablecloth. "Oh, no! Cass is gonna kill me!" (Y/n) quickly ran off to grab a washcloth. Varian pulled out a vial of rock salt and sprinkled a little on the stain and he used the bouquet of flowers to drop some water on the stain. Within seconds it was gone. "Sorry, Varian. I would love to be your assistant, but- What the!? The stain! It's gone! How? I just turn my back for three seconds!" (Y/n)'s eyes widen. 

"Oh, simple. Grapes are acidic, by combining the alkalinity from the flowers' barley grass with rock salt, I was able to stop the stain's adhesion. Alchemy!" Varian explains. (Y/n) giggles at him. "Okay, you have got to teach me that sometimes. I think I could learn more from you than my private tutors." Varian blushed again. "Oh, sure! I can teach you more by helping you out with your chores!" Then he thought again. "Hey! If... If I help you, you can help me and be my assistant! It'll only take a minute!" 

(Y/n) smiled at him. "You got yourself a deal." Varian grins at her. "Great!" They both stood there awkwardly before (Y/n) grabs his hand. "Come on, the fast we finish, the faster I can be your assistant. The first chore they had to do was clean the silverware. (Y/n) was using a cloth to clean a few, Varian showed her a new invention to help clean them faster. The next chore was to mop the hall, (Y/n) still questioned how it got muddy. Varian tapped on her shoulder and showed her some blue orbs. He hands her half as they both threw them on the floor, where it suddenly got foamy with soap. Varian tossed a yellow orb and everything was cleaned up. They smiled at each other but a small green fire appears from Varian's shoulder. (Y/n) quickly puts it out, but they both blushed at how close they were. Now, they were fixing up the flower arrangements. Varian handed (Y/n) some wilted flowers as she looked concerned. He puts a blue orb into the bouquet and it appeared green and beautiful. Once he handed the flowers to (Y/n), she smelled flowers and puts in them a vase. She even grabs two to put one in her hair and the other on Varian's shirt. They smiled at blushed at each other. 

Now the two of them were in the halls cleaning up. Brielle finally came up and decided to help Varian to reach a spot he was trying to clean. "Well, look at you two working together." (Y/n) smirked. "Yeah, maybe I found myself a new assistant." Varian joked as he pets Brielle. "Replacing already, Varian? That's cold." (Y/n) replied and they both laughed. Brielle jumps onto (Y/n)'s shoulder. She gives Brielle a scratch on the head. "I hope we've done enough since today is kinda a big day for Cass." Varian slides from the ladder. Oh, you're talking about getting that guard assignment?" 

(Y/n) nodded at him. "Cass tries harder than anyone I know, but her dad has very high standards for her. I have to say that my dad has very high standards for me and Rapunzel. Since were both princesses it is our duty to stay in since we just returned, but I just want to show him that there is so much more to me and Rapunzel." Varian steps in. "Yeah. My dad's...kind of hard to impress too. Dads. Am I right? Huh!" (Y/n) giggles at him. "No kidding." 

Cassandra comes running in to check on (Y/n). "Hey, (Y/n). Oh, hi, Varian." Cassandra greets as Varian waves at her. "Sorry, (N/n) I just wanted to check how you were doing." 

"We're finishing up." (Y/n) smiled proudly. "That's good, but I don't think it matters anymore. It's already noon and I still have to make up all the guest rooms." Cassandra explain. "Don't worry, Cass. I can handle it. You go and do your guard duty. I promise it will be finished in no time." (Y/n) said. "Are you sure you can handle it, you're already helping a lot of the servants today to make it less stressful for them." Cassandra placed her hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder. "Don't worry, I can help her out and she'll have time to be my assistant." Varian joined in. Cassandra thought for a moment until she finally agreed. Once she was gone, Varian and (Y/n) were in different halls to get the chores done faster.

In Rapunzel's room, Rapunzel was inspired by the science projects that she wanted to make her own invention. So far, the inventions she showed to Eugene were already invented.  As she was thinking she noticed that a laundry cart was moving on its own. She got outside to get a closer look, but it was Varian pushing the cart. "Uh, Varian? Ugh!" Rapunzel called out, but she had a piece of cloth hit her face on accident. "Hey, Princess."  Varian greets. "What are you doing?" Rapunzel asked. "I'm helping (Y/n) with her work so she can have Cassandra pull guard duty," Varian explains. "But shouldn't you be setting up your exhibit?" Rapunzel asked 

"Oh, theoretically, but I am presenting second to last, so I figure that'll give me a few extra minutes to get ready. Plus, I just have that one room left right there. Oh, and that room. Oh, that... that one, too. Also... Also that one." Varian pushed the cart as he was counting the rooms he still needed. Rapunzel picks up some clothing that Varian dropped. "Look, Varian, I know you really like my sister, but I think..." Varian cuts her off. "Don't worry. (Y/n) agreed to be my assistant during my presentation, so, ya know, I got everything under control. On to the next room!" Varian marched towards the door. "Varian, that is not a room, that's a..." Rapunzel tried to stop him, but it was too late. Varian accidentally tripped and fell. "...staircase." 

After helping Varian from the staircase, (Y/n) and Varian puts the last laundry away in the Landry shoot. They both sighed from exhaustion. "Wiped out?" Cassandra comes in her guard uniform. "Who? Us? No. Just fainted. Uh, I mean, fin... We finished. Finished." Varian said from exhaustion. "Finished? Wow. Varian and (Y/n), I'm impressed." Cassandra smiled. "It's cool, Cass. Besides we see that you're doing okay with your guard duty." (Y/n) smiled. 

"Now, um, if you'll excuse me, I have a contest to win. Assistant?" Varian smiled as he held his hand out to (Y/n). She gladly took it and they walked outside. Cassandra couldn't help but smile at (Y/n) as she spend some time with Varian. 

Outside, everyone was by the stage as Dr. St. Croix was making his announcement. "One of you will walk away with the greatest prize in all of sciences: my approval. As for the rest of you, may the universe show mercy......on your wretched souls. Good luck." Dr. St. Croix walked towards the podium. The crowd was murmuring and giving slow, uncomfortable clapping. "Well, that's one way to get people in the mood." (Y/n) said sarcastically. Which caused Varian to laugh. They quickly went over to the back to get everything ready. "You ready? Because a certain alchemist could use his assistant." Varian joked. "Yeah, I'm ready." (Y/n) giggles before they could finish everything up, another servant comes looking for (Y/n). "Oh, Princess (Y/n). There you are! We need your help finishing up something really quick." 

"Oh, but I can't right now. I promised that I would help my friend.." (Y/n) was cut off. "Oh, please! It's an emergency!" The servant begged. Varian saw how the servant needs (Y/n) more than him. He placed his hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, (Y/n). You can go and help them out." 

"Varian, are you sure?" (Y/n). "Don't worry about me. I am sure I can find another assistant in the next five minutes." Varian then walked away. Seeing that (Y/n) was free, the servant pulls her away and went inside. Once inside,(Y/n) was helping the servants fold the laundry, but they could see that (Y/n) wasn't looking happy. They noticed that their youngest princess wasn't looking too happy. They asked her what was on her mind and she told them she wanted to see her friend's new invention, but she won't make it. Seeing that they may have taken the youngest princess's kindness for granted, they told her they can finish up. (Y/n) smiled as she thanked them and she quickly ran outside to see the rest of the science expo. 

(Y/n) made it on time to see that it was Rapunzel's turn to present her project. "Dangerously wet hallways. Cold, wet clothes. Wet hair that takes forever, and I mean, forever, to dry. All of those things are yesterday's problems. Say hello to the Mega Dry!" Rapunzel announced her project as the curtains opened. "Assistant?" She turned to Eugene, who used a bucket of water to wet his head. "I'm all about the wet look." He smiled. The Mega Dry uses cutting-edge equine technology to release a powerful, focused stream of air. The result? What used to take hours to dry, now takes seconds." Rapunzel explains as Maximus operated the machine. Eugene's hair was all dried up. "Well, hello." Suddenly, his hair became puffy. He screamed in terror as he hid his hair with the bucket and ran off. "Oops. I think I still had it calibrated for my hair." Rapunzel said sheepishly. Cassandra laughs at Eugene but quickly composes herself when Dr. St. Croix stared at her. "Next." He told. 

Varian looks out the curtains and saw that (Y/n) had finished up early to see his invention. He smiled and went up next. Behold! The power of alchemy!"

"Hey, where's the opening?" A familiar voice was heard. Turns out that Varian had Shorty as his assistant. "Aha! Oh-ho! The power of ag, uh...of, uh, that guy! Go. Do the thing." Varian facepalmed himself from Shorty's antics. He cleared his throat at Shorty. "Oh, yeah!" Shorty pulled the curtain. 

"I give you, the Elemental Remogrifier!" Varian announced his project as everyone gasped and cheered. (Y/n) smiled at her friend. "Assistant?" With Varian's okay, Shorty puts a bag of sand into the invention. "Here we go. The rotation causes friction, which heats the sand, while the counter-centrifugal force promotes particle compression. The end result? Fifty pounds of sand turns into...this." Varian pulls out a beautiful, (f/c) gems from the invention. I call this new element......(N/n)drium." (Y/n) blushed at the name of the new element that was actually named after her. Varian smiled at (Y/n) and she smiled back. As everyone was cheering, Shorty suddenly collapsed from falling asleep. He startled a goat he nearly fell on. The goat bumped into Big Nose, who lost his knife. It was about to hit Dr. St. Croix, but Cassandra caught it on time.

"Despite its lack of flair and panache, I was almost inclined to give your device a mediocre assessment." Dr. St. Croix said. "Flair? What does that have to do with..." Varian was cut off. "However, considering your assistant nearly lanced my nasal cavity, I've no choice but to disqualify you. Next!" Varian looks down in defeat. (Y/n) gasped at what just happened. "Sir, with all due respect, you can't disqualify him because of his assistant." Cassandra stood up for (Y/n)'s friend. Since she knew how much Varian was important to (Y/n). "You stick to guarding, I will stick to sciencing. Got it? Hmm?" Dr. St. Croix sasses back. 

Pink smoke came out from behind the curtains as Fernanda Pizazzo appeared. "Everybody at this expo make some noise! This is the momensational moment you've all been waiting for. But first! I give you... chocolate!" Fernanda used a cannon to give everyone chocolate. "Now this is science!" Dr. St. Croix ate one of the chocolates. 

"Jaws, prepare to drop. Larynxes, get ready to scream, and eyeballs, how about you take a good look around, because once I unveil my marveltacular creation, the world will never look the same! I give you... the Fantasphere!" Fernanda activated her project to make the sphere levitate. "How'd she do it? Oh my gosh! It's awesome!" She whispered as the crowd cheered. (Y/n) looked at the invention in confusion. "It looks like a party trick to me." 

"But what does it do?" Varian asked. "Uh... The real question, kid, is, what doesn't it do? Now, here, have some chocolate and shut up." Fernanda tossed Varian chocolate. "Its luster is glorious! I see no need to continue this contest!" Dr. St. Croix gave Fernanda the blue ribbon. She and everyone cheered. Varian walks off and sits down at the water fountain. (Y/n) took a seat next to him. "It's not fair, you should have won." 

"It doesn't matter. The truth is, all I really wanted to do was impress you. I thought if I showed you what I was capable of, you might see something in me. Something special. I was just being dumb." Varian explains. "Varian, what are you talking about? You did impress me. More times than you know it. From helping me with the chores, to the invention when we first met, and that new element you made. You always find ways to impress me because you are smart, compassionate, and unique." (Y/n) placed her hand on his shoulder. Varian placed his hand on top of hers. "Thanks, for saying that." Cassandra came to check on them and was glad that they were both comforting each other. Cassandra looked up. "Oh, it looks like St. Croix liked your invention after all." 

"Master St. Croix! No! No! Don't!" Varian ran towards him as the girls followed. "You're... You're building too much pressure!" Varian tried to stop. "Back off, boy! I'm a scientist." Dr. St. Croix didn't listen and pushed Varian away. "Don't!" Varian begged. Dr. St. Croix didn't listen to him. He messed with Varian's invention and it suddenly started to pounce everywhere. "Somebody do something!" He cried out. The machine was heading toward them, so Cassandra did do something. She saved (Y/n) and Varian, but the machine hits Dr. St. Croix. "Double disqualified!" He yells as he flew away. Suddenly the machine lands on Fernanda's invention. (Y/n) couldn't help but laugh at the snooty scientist. "Ha, ha! Nice one, Cass!" 

"Not funny, (Y/n)!" Cassandra exclaim, but (Y/n) gave her a 'are you sure' face. "Okay, maybe a little funny. Now come on, we've got a job to do!" They ran towards the stage. 

"Oh, this is bad," Varian said in fear. "What do you mean, Varian?" (Y/n) asked. "Introducing counter-centrifugation to the magnetism could result in... well, that!" Varian explains as a huge vortex began to appear. "Its angular momentum is rapidly approaching critical velocity. Once that happens, it'll suck up everything in sight. Us! The castle! Everything!" The two combined inventions began to be lifted into the air as it begins to suck up everything. Everyone began to panic as they tried to get away. "Okay, so, very bad. How do we stop it?" Cassandra asked.

"There's only one way to stop it. I gotta get close enough to pull the hand brake!" Varian explains. He was about to get to the machines, but (Y/n) stopped him. "There's no way you're going alone. Not without your assistant!" (Y/n) smiled at him. He smiled back. Suddenly, Varian was being pulled up. "Whoa! (Y/n)! Help!" (Y/n) quickly got hold of Varian. Luckily, she always carried her staff with her. She plunged the staff to the grown so they both won't fly away. Varian tries to reach the machines, but it's too high up. "I can't get close enough! The vortex has gotten too strong. We need an equally powerful wind source to counteract it!" Varian explains. It was a good thing that Rapunzel and the others were listening. "The Mega Dry! The Mega Dry can generate that kind of wind speed and blow against the vortex!" Rapunzel exclaims. "Yes!" Eugene agreed as he and the others went to grab the Mega Dry. "He needs to create a counterpole to the vortex's critical velocity!" Varian yells out. "Max, he means you have to run backwards!" Rapunzel told. Maximus does what she said and ran the opposite direction. The machine was slowly lowered down. "It's working! Hold on, (Y/n)!" Varian yells out as he was able to turn off the machines. (Y/n) caught Varian on time as they wrapped their arms around each other. They stumble a bit before they stood up straight. They blushed as they noticed how close they were to each other. They smiled shyly as they turns away, with their arms still wrapped around each other. Everyone cheered as they were able to help stop the vortex. "Blondie, hands down, your best invention yet!" Eugene kissed Rapunzel's hand. Their moment was interrupted when they heard Shorty's voice from under the Mega Dry. "Pardon me, I believe I've been folded in half." 

(Y/n) spotted the blue ribbon as she walked towards Cassandra. They both saw that Dr. St. Croix was being carried off for medical attention. "You! Neck... hurts. Ooh!" he glared at Cassandra before he was carried away. "Hold on, guys." (Y/n) stopped the guards. "Just so you know that I will be reporting you to the proper authorities. Because I have seen a lot of these people make amazing inventions, but you have chosen a party trick. We'll see if you stay a scientist for long." (Y/n) smirked as Dr. St. Croix stared at her in fear. The guards continued to carry him away. Fernanda chases after him. "Master St. Croix, this still counts as a win, right? No take back-sies?" 

(Y/n) goes off to find Varian. As for the young alchemist, he was adding the (N/n)drium into the center of an (f/c) necklace. He turned to see (Y/n) standing behind him. She puts the blue ribbon on him. "I believe this was meant for you." Varian hands her the necklace. "And, um, this was meant for you." (Y/n) puts on the necklace as she smiled. "Thanks, Varian. It's beautiful. And, sorry for being too busy with all those chores I decided to help out with." 

"It's... It's okay, (Y/n)." Varian smiled as they hugged. "Well, I guess I should start cleaning this mess up." Before Varian could walk off, (Y/n) grabbed his hand. "I think you might need your assistant for this mess." (Y/n) said. They blushed as they went over to clean as much as they can. As they were cleaning up, (Y/n) couldn't help but admire the necklace. "You know, it's pretty crazy and cool to have an elevated named after you." (Y/n) told. "I actually got the idea after discovering a cluster of these strange, black rocks by my village." Varian explains. Rapunzel and Cassandra weren't far when they heard what Varian said. "Black rocks?" The three girls questioned. 

Later that day, Varian took them to see the black rocks that were near his village. "It was amazing. They just kind of sprouted up a couple weeks ago. I have never seen anything like it." Varian explains. Suddenly, Rapunzel's hair began to glow. Even the black rocks began to glow. "Fascinating. The rocks are demonstrating an actual physical response. To you." Varian points to Rapunzel. (Y/n) stood next to him. "Varian, please. We need you to keep this a secret. Just between the four of us." Brielle and Pascal squeaked at her. "Sorry, the six of us." 

"Wh... Why?" Varian questioned. "Because our dad has forbidden us from talking about these rocks to anyone." Rapunzel placed her hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder. "That is why we all are going to figure it out. But I need to know that we can trust you." (Y/n) held Varian's hand. "You can count on me." Varian smiled. The two 14 years old smiled as they leaned their foreheads closer toward each other. Now, that one more person knows their secret, they can figure out what these black rocks are.
