Intermission/Chapter 7

(Intermission)

Since there is still things that are missing from the series and some information, I wanted to warn you, I will be making some things up. Especially toward the end of season 1 events.

Basically I'm not going to follow half of what's going on and make a new way the rocks kinda end, I guess.

Also if you guys want bloopers once we get toward the main storyline of season 1, I can add a little blooper moment. Just like how they do in Pixar movies.

ONE more thing, there will be singing! We all know what happened to Eugene/Flynn when he didn't follow.

So without further ado, on with the story!

Chapter 7 -
New Sights Through Varian's Brilliance

×××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××

Cooking, Cleaning, Helping Varian and his dad, helping some villagers. Basically helping when you want or when you can because it wasn't exactly fair that you stay without repaying the two who are so kind to you. Though there was something unusual one day when you woke up to do what you do everyday.

Actually, Quirin and Varian noticed too. You would rub your eyes or rub your temples more than usual. Even when you help Varian, he would ask you to hand him something and it took about 7 minutes if it was something across the room. You thought it was because you weren't sleeping well since everything was hazy. Yes, you could see, but more in a fuzzy vision.

Sometimes you'd seen certain things you needed or wanted to find was outlined in a with a blurry hue, depending on the color of the object. Though after awhile, your eyes hurt. Quirin would watch your eyes squint when you're looking for something far before you'd rub your eyes.

Varian came down from his lab and seen you were feeding birds out front. “Hey (____).” He sits next to you and smiles at the birds.

You smile, “Hey. Let me guess, you want me to test something again.”

Varian grins, taking some bird food and tossing it to the birds, “Yes, but this time its harmless.”

You raise a brow, “You always say that.”

He laughs and stands, waving to follow, “I promise that THIS test is something really harmless.”

Varian dug around for something and mumbled, throwing random things behind him. You nearly got hit once or twice. “Found it! Hopefully this isn't a fail, especially for something simple!”

“Close your eyes.”

You stare at him and cross your arms, “And what happened the few times I did that?”

Varian thinks then smiles sheepishly, “Okay, but just this once. Humor me.”

You sigh and close your eyes, “This better be something that'll singe my hair again.”

Varian looks at the ends of your hair that were singed then up at his bangs that were the same. “No……..no it won't.” He takes something out of a small rectangular box.

Something cool and thin is slipped in front of your closed eyes and you feel it goes behind your ears too.

“There. Now open.”

You do so and see everything clearly. You eyes move to Varian who is staring at you. To be honest, it was getting awkward when he didn't say anything and just stared. “What?” You reach up to your eyes, pushing up…. Glasses? You take it off and examine it. The frames were some type of silver metal and the lense were perfectly cut so it wasn't too big.

“You look really good in glasses.” Varian says and grins shyly.”

You rub your face, trying to hide the pink hue on your cheeks, “Thanks. I'm just glad I can see without my eyes hurting.”

Varian crosses his arms, nodding and standing there proudly, “The only thing that didn't fail the first time. Took me awhile, since my dad asked if I could make glasses and luckily he went to go get the supplies.”

You felt surprised they both did this for you, they actually care for you. Though these glasses perfectly framed your face. “Wow…..these fit really well.”

Varian chuckles nervously, “Yeah! I'm glad I guessed right.” He turns and writes in a book. He remembers when he measured your face a few nights ago, then getting lost in thought as he stared at you. The way you were so peaceful, but the feeling of guilt always made him look away.

You waved a hand in front of him, “Varian?” He shakes his head and turns to you, “Hm?” You pull him into a tight hug, “Thank you, Varian. You're such a Cabbage-Head sometime, but a genius. I'm going to show Quirin!”

Varian watches you excitedly run downstairs and pouts, “I am not a Cabbage-Head.” He grins, “Though I am a genius.” He tosses up a tiny red-orange ball, only to miss catching it and it lands on his left arm. Small flames pop up. Varian yelps and pats it down, “Okay! Maybe I might be thick witted to some things, but….. (____) still called me a genius!”

Quirin smiles softly and hands back your glasses, “I'm quite proud he did this for you.”

You nod happily and put it on, “Thank you both for it. It was getting annoying not to see well.”

“It's more of my son who you should thank. It was his idea.” Quirin glances toward the lab, “I was concerned for your well-being, yes and I did ask him if he might know what's wrong.” He had that expression which he cares for his son. “He had me get supplies for him then I had to wait for what he was up to.”

You were going to say something, but you smelt something like it was burnt. You and Quirin see Varian walk in. There was a small patch on his sleeve which was burnt, showing a small portion of his arm. Quirin shakes his head, sighing, “Varian.”

Varian smiles sheepishly and you take his hand, “Let's go fix that.” Varian blinks, letting himself be dragged upstairs

You shared a room with Varian ever since Quirin got done making a bed for you. Varian plops down on his bed and you dig in a chest that Quirin let you have for things you want to keep. There were things inside the chest that you kept, such as a small sewing set.

There were small squares of random colored fabric, but you grabbed one that was a bit close to matching Varian’s shirt color. You had no idea what you were doing, but it felt like you've done this before.

Varian observers how you quickly measure the fabric to cover the hole and how fast you cut the stripped fabric. He zones out once you begin sewing the patch on.

“Your fingers are so fluid.”

You stop half way to look at him then shrug, continuing, “I'm just doing my best. I mean, I'm no professional, but I can hold on my own.” With the last stitch, you cut the thread. “There.” You pat the patch you sewn, but look worried when Varian has tears forming.

“Varian? Did I accidentally poke you or something?”

Varian wipes his eyes, shaking his head and smiles faintly, “No…….I just remember when my mom patched up my clothes, especially how active I was.”

You can see how lonely he is especially how his dad is busy with begin a leader. You didn't know what to say or what to do. You stare at his gloves as he plays with his gloved hands and noticed he took them off twice.

“Why do you wear your gloves all the time? Don't you take it off after you're done with dangerous stuff?”

Varian sighs, shrugging, “I just feel vulnerable when I don't have it on, I guess.” He pulls the gloves off and clenches one hand.

He doesn't see the stars around that care for him. It felt like you were speaking from experience. In one place, alone, wanting something that's always out of your reach, and misunderstood. We're kids who lost our way, but….. We have to wait to be saved.

So in the meantime, you thought, we have to be there for each other when we can.

Varian jumps when you take his left hand with yours, “Varian, I can't promise you that I can fix all of your problems; but I can promise you won't go through them all alone.”

You smile truly and Varian stares in bewilderment like he just discovered something new to find out. He grins happily and squeezes your hand, “Power of Two?”

You laugh and smile, “Slightly tacky, but it's because it's you. Power of Two it is.”
