Chapter 56 -
An Unexpected Call Of Unconsciousness

You and Varian walked around the village with pouches full of mini chemballs that hydrate plants. The ones that grew the withered flowers back to life. Of course it can only help the plants that haven't completely died.
Rudiger ran around you two with a small pouch strapped to him. He would go to any random withering flower and drop a small chemball.
The two of you paid no mind to him while Varian held a paper, mapping out the places of the village that needed this stuff.
Some of the villagers had nothing to do with what they call, “Infiltrating Disaster”, though some of them kindly thanked Varian for helping them.
You glance at Varian to see him smiling happily while marking off spots on his map. You smiled softly. He would make a great leader once he's sorted things out with himself.
Varian looks over and raises a brow at you, grinning sheepishly, “What?”
You giggle, “Nothing.” You hum and decided on a tiny test, “I'm just surprised you're still content after some of the villagers didn't want your help.”
Varian shrugs, smiling still, “So? I'm still glad at least a few are appreciating what I'm offering. If they don't want my help then that's their problem, but if they really need it, I'll be willing to help.”
He was getting there and that made you happy.
“Is this something you're trying to prove to your dad?”
“Surprisingly, no. I just feel good when I do help someone. Especially when I help with my abilities.” He gestures to the pouches.
“It does feel good when you help.” You poke the side of his face and giggle.
Varian pokes back, then wraps an arm around you, “Should we head back after this last stop?”
You nod and notice Rudiger’s pouch is empty. Swiftly, you pick him up and raise a brow, “Rudiger, what did you with all your chemballs?”
He just smiles and purrs, hugging your face.
You roll your eyes, chuckling and place him on Varian’s shoulders. “There. A boy and his companion.”
Varian laughs, “Yeah. Still can't believe I love this little guy after I loathed him for awhile.” He scratches behind Rudiger's ear as the raccoon chitters.
As soon as you two were done, you head back to Varian's and see Quirin out in the field again. He looked like he was trying shoo off to rabbits that were getting at the cabbages.
You and Varian stare and couldn't help, but laugh at his dad's attempt to chase the fast fluffy creatures.
“I'm going to go help him. I'll be right back.” Varian says and runs out to the field.
Rudiger had hopped onto your shoulders now.
Now you and Rudiger were watching the son and father run around the big field. You laughed since it looked so funny for some reason to you.
At one point, Quirin caught a white rabbit, but it squirmed until it jump from his head and knocked Varian over who was behind Quirin.
You walk over toward a small patch of unusual grass, pulling a handful before walking over and giggle, “Rabbits.”
Quirin helps Varian up and they both slightly narrow their eyes at you. “Why don't you try to catch them then?” Varian sassed.
“Ooo! Getting sassy there, Varian.” You roll your eyes and smile while kneeling on the ground. You hold out the grass in your hand and gently skim your palm over the top of the grass.
The rabbits stop while their ears twitch at the noise the grass made. Their noses twitch and immediately jump toward you.
Quickly you get up and run toward the forest. You continue to wave the grass as the rabbits follow.
A bit far from the village, you stop at a decent area full of Timothy Hay. That is what was in your hands and you smile while the rabbits now hop around eating the Timothy.
Varian has an unbelievable expression when you come back. You dust your hands and smile, “Anything else to do today?”
Quirin clears his throat and tries to hide the embarrassment. “No.”
Varian throws his hands out, “Unbelievable!”
You laugh, “What? It's called luring instead of playing the Cat and Mouse game with fast creatures.”
“I should go check on the horse. Why don't you two do whatever you two do?” Quirin smiles softly and walks toward the stable.
“So…..want to go on a walk?” Varian asks shyly.
You smile, “Sure.” You take his hand and you two begin to walk toward the village.
At the end of it where the road heads out to Corona, you stop when you felt something pulling you in a direction. The big hill near the village.
“(____)?”
You ignored Varian and begin to walk toward the hill. Varian blink and follows you. The two of you go until you get to the top.
Both your eyes widen once you see a trail of black rocks slowly growing on the other side.
“It's getting near the village.” Varian says in worry and glance behind him to see Old Corona below then back to the site in front of him.
You don't say anything as Varian continues, “If it continues like this, then in no time it'll hit the village.” He pulls out his map and begins to mark the trail he sees in front of him down.
You look behind you and see the castle far out in the distance.
“(____). We have to tell my dad. Come on.” Varian follows your gaze and looks to his map, then puts it away. “Let's go.”
You glance back toward the trail of destruction and gaze at the horizon. Why did you want to go that way when you feel afraid, yet you feel like you need to?
“Hey.” Varian holds your face in his hands and stares at you in concern. His thumbs wipes a tear that fell down your cheek.
You look at him, then up to the sky blue strand in Varian's hair. Suddenly, you felt the everything around you lose its balance as you felt your head buzz with a painfully numbing thump.
Varian gasps in panic and holds you tightly when you fall toward. “(____)?!” He panicked more at your unconscious form and picks you up in his arms.
Quickly, the young alchemist runs down the hill and careful with his footing. He pants and runs fast to the village. He passes a few people who watch in worry at the boy.
“Dad! Dad!”
Quirin runs out of the stables after hearing the slightly fearful panic in his son’s voice. His eyes widen when he see you unconscious in Varian's arms. “What happened?”
“I-I-I don't know! We went for a walk, then she passed out after we seen the rocks over the hill!”
Quirin takes you and heads inside with Varian following. This happened so fast that Varian couldn't help, but tear up. You never fainted out of the blue like that.
“Stay in the kitchen, Varian.” Quirin ordered.
Varian stops, “What? No, dad! (____) needs me.”
Quirin goes to his room and glares slightly, “Stay there.” He slams his door to give Varian a warning.
Varian stood there and felt his eyes burn a bit. Warm tears fell from his face and walks up to his dad's room. He wanted to go in, but if his dad can help you then he'll have to wait.
Varian slid down to sit on the floor near the door and buries his face in his arms.
Quirin laid you on his bed and goes over toward a shelf, digging until he pulls out a thin book from the back.
He flips through the book and stops at a page. His eyes skim through the text before walking over to you.
You had started wearing gloves and he wondered why, so he gently pulled them down.
The mark was now visible to Quirin and it was glowing dimly.
Gently, he closes the book and puts it back. He leans on the shelf and sighs. Hopefully the moon was bright tonight and he just needed Varian to be close to you.
“Varian.” He calls out and goes out the door.
Quirin looks around and hears something thump. He spots Varian on the floor and Varian's foot had slipped which had made that noise.
When Varian gets overly upset, he seemed to fall asleep from the emotional exhaustion. Quirin knew his son was very sensitive to certain things, sometimes he didn't know what to do when Varian would get emotional.
Quirin gently picks up Varian and places him next to you. He takes off your glove that doesn't have the mark and links your hand with Varian's after he had taken off his gloves.
“If anything does happen. Varian will need you with him through it all.”
He walks out of the room and stressfully waits.
It wasn't anyone’s fault and it especially wasn't your fault that all this is happening. Quirin forgave you, but if Varian found out. He had only hoped his son could forgive you too.
You two needed each other.
