One

I could feel your smooth skin against mine.

The way you wrapped your arms around my body is something I could never forget.

"I love you, Leslie.

"I'm yours. Always yours."

I turned to my side so I could get a better look of your face. The suns rays shone against your bronzed skin. My frail fingers ran across your stubble. I traced the freckles on your cheeks as if they were constellations, each telling a different story.

You caught my hand and placed lingering kisses on my fingertips.

"You're always so cold." You rubbed your hands against mine and blew warm air onto them.

The house smelled of oak and vanilla. The fire was burning due to the harsh winter weather. These are my favorite kinds of days. The days were the ticking clock hanging on our bedroom wall did not decide our fate for the day.

"You know why I love winter?" I hummed. A small smile etched on my face as I stared at you. You broke out into a grin, knowing exactly what I was going to say.

"Why is that, baby?" You ran your fingers across my cheek. You traced the outline of my eyelids as if your were trying to memorize the intricate design. I shivered under your touch and leaned my cheeks against the warmth of your hands.

"Because we get to spend the days wrapped up in these blankets, on this bed, our skin against one another. I love you."

You let out a deep laugh that filled our small house. We both knew that was not the case. You had your job and I had mine.Yet we laid wrapped up in each other's embrace. It was silent except for the soft cackling sound of wood burning and birds chirping outside.

I pulled the white blanket up high until it rested below my chin. I wished to stay here forever.

"God, I love you." You pulled me almost impossibly closer and kissed me like I was the only available source of oxygen.

It still pains me knowing you are gone forever.
