Tamizh walked out of the college building, a worry finally lifted off her shoulders after submitting her assignment. The afternoon sun was still high, casting long shadows across the campus as students moved in small groups, laughing, chatting, and heading toward their weekend plans. Tamizh adjusted her bag strap, feeling lighter and more relaxed than she had in days.
As she made her way toward the main gate, she heard someone call out her name. She turned to see Jagan, one of her classmates, hurrying toward her with a slightly anxious look on his face.
"Hey, Tamizh! Got a minute?" he asked, his voice tinged with a mix of urgency and hesitation.
She smiled at him, curious. "Sure, what's up?"
Jagan scratched the back of his head, looking a bit sheepish. "I'm really sorry to bother you, but I've been struggling with this one section of the assignment. Mine's due tomorrow, and I just can't seem to get it right. Could you help me out?"
Tamizh nodded, understanding his predicament. She had been in that situation before, and it wasn't fun. "Of course. What part are you stuck on?"
Tamizh explained the concepts patiently, making sure Jagan understood where he had gone wrong. The conversation flowed easily, and soon enough, Jagan's worried expression began to relax.
Meanwhile, across the parking lot, Prabhu sat in his car, having arrived a few minutes earlier to pick her up for their movie plan.
His project had wrapped up, and with a bit of free time before the next one started, he was looking forward to spending a carefree evening with Tamizh. But as he scanned the crowd, his eyes narrowed when they landed on her standing with a guy and both of them engrossed in talking to each other, and she kept smiling in between for something the guy says.
His hand tightened around the steering wheel, his mind immediately jumping to conclusions.
Who was this guy? And why was he so close to Tamizh? And why is she smiling too much for something he says ? wait, what he said that it made her smile too much ?Prabhu's stomach twisted with a familiar, unwelcome feeling—jealousy.
He watched them from a distance, trying to read the situation. They seemed to be deep in conversation, and while Tamizh was talking animatedly, Jagan looked a little too comfortable for Prabhu's liking. His gaze lingered on how close they were standing to each other, how Jagan seemed to be leaning in as Tamizh spoke.
After what felt like an eternity, Jagan finally nodded, thanking Tamizh profusely. She smiled, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder before getting up. As she walked away, she noticed Prabhu's car and immediately broke into the brightest smile, her eyes lighting up as she made her way toward him.
Prabhu tried to shake off the jealousy that had taken root, forcing a smile as she approached the car. Tamizh hopped inside, closing the door behind her with a cheerful, "Hey!"
But Prabhu's response was off. He managed a weak smile, but his eyes were still shadowed with the remnants of the jealousy he was trying to suppress. "Hey," he replied, his tone far from the usual warmth she was used to.
Tamizh noticed the shift immediately. "What happened? Why do you seem dull?" she asked, her concern genuine as she leaned in to touch his forehead, checking for a fever.
Prabhu gently brushed her hand away, shaking his head. "I'm fine."
But Tamizh wasn't convinced. She studied his face for a moment before her eyes narrowed slightly. "Who was that guy you were talking to?" Prabhu asked, his voice casual, but the undercurrent of tension was hard to miss as he started the engine and drove out of the college.
Tamizh's lips curled into a knowing smile. She recognized that look of jealousy in his eyes. Deciding to tease him a little, she responded nonchalantly, "Oh, he's my classmate."
She noticed how his gaze softened slightly at her explanation, so she decided to up the ante. "He was asking if I would go with him on a friendly date."
Prabhu's grip on the steering wheel tightened, but he fought to keep his expression neutral. He didn't want to come off as a possessive control freak, so he kept his tone calm. "Oh, that's all?"
Tamizh suppressed a laugh, noticing how he was trying hard to mask his jealousy. "Yep," she said, playing along. "But he was too nervous to ask that. I mean, he was a little worked up because he knows I'm committed."
Prabhu's eyes flickered with something dark and unreadable. "Oh, he knows?" he muttered under his breath, a few choice curses escaping his lips.
Tamizh had to bite the inside of her cheek to stop herself from laughing outright. She was enjoying this a little too much. "Oh yes," she continued, her voice sweet. "And I was like, 'Hey, don't be nervous. My boyfriend is so open-minded, and he's such a secure man. He wouldn't get mad at me for these little things, right?'"
Prabhu's jaw clenched as he forced out a tight, "Right."
Tamizh could see the storm brewing beneath his calm exterior, and she decided to push just a bit further. "So I told him that he doesn't have to worry about you. And I thought, you know, next week you'll get busy with your new project, and I'll get bored, so..."
She trailed off, deliberately looking out the window, knowing it would drive him crazy.
Prabhu's eyes narrowed as he asked, "So you...?"
She turned back to him with an innocent smile. "So I would prefer to spend my weekend with him."
The moment the words left her mouth, Prabhu slammed on the brakes abruptly, causing the car to jerk to a halt. Tamizh's heart jumped as she glanced around, noticing the traffic jam forming behind them. But before she could say anything, Prabhu turned to her, his eyes blazing with intensity.
"So, what's his family ritual?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. "Do they bury or burn the corpse?"
Tamizh's eyes widened in surprise, and she quickly nudged him to keep driving. "Prabhu, drive! We're in the middle of the road!"
But Prabhu's eyes remained locked on hers, the fire in them refusing to dim. "I personally prefer burying him six feet under the ground."
Tamizh couldn't hold it in any longer. She burst into laughter, the sound light and musical in the tense atmosphere.
"You're crazy!" she managed to say between laughs.
. "For you? A million fucking times Yes I am."
His tone carrying that mix of irritation and adoration only she could provoke in him.His eyes still flashing with the remnants of jealousy, shot her a quick glance as he started driving again, letting the traffic clear behind them
He glanced at her again, his eyes narrowing. "You know I'm not nice when I'm pissed, so better tell me what the actual fuck he said..." Prabhu's tone was sharper now, the edge of his words revealing just how rattled he was. Tamizh knew well enough that when he started cursing in front of her, it meant he was genuinely upset.
Before she could come up with a proper explanation, Prabhu's piercing gaze cut through her defenses, and his foot pressed a little harder on the gas pedal, the car speeding up slightly as if he was channeling his irritation through the vehicle. "Did he really ask you out, and you said okay?"
"Gosh... no!" Tamizh finally managed to say, her voice full of exasperation mixed with amusement. "I was just messing with you," she chuckled, unable to resist.
Prabhu's expression shifted to one of mock disbelief. "You're seriously too much. For a moment, I just plotted his murder plan in my head."
Tamizh couldn't help but laugh, reaching over to pinch his cheek playfully. "Awww, so cute. My boyfriend looks adorable when he gets jealous over a random guy who just came to ask me doubts about his assignment."
Prabhu shot her a sidelong glance, his voice laced with annoyance but also a hint of humor. "Couldn't he find some other girl to clarify his doubts? Why my girlfriend? Are your other classmates too dumb?"
Tamizh laughed again, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "That, I need to confirm with him. But I'm sure him having the same topic as mine could be one of the main reasons," she added with a sarcastic edge that only made Prabhu groan in frustration.
"Gosh... why would you pull this whole thing just to annoy me?" Prabhu grumbled, though his annoyance was already fading into something lighter, more playful.
Tamizh raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. "You should have thought about that when you kept impressing my cousin sister at Meera akka's marriage. She developed a crush on you, remember?"
The memory of her younger cousin, Kavya, confessing her crush feelings for Prabhu ran fresh in Tamizh's mind, rekindling a spark of possessiveness. She still remembered the way Kavya had shyly approached her, asking for advice on how to propose to Prabhu.
Prabhu let out a laugh, his grin spreading wide. "Oh, that... well, that was my charm," he said with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Before he could revel in his self-proclaimed charm, Tamizh pinched him hard on his biceps, making him wince in pain. "Woman, that hurts!" he groaned.
"That's how I felt when she came to me for suggestions on how to propose to you... idiot," Tamizh shot back, her tone half-serious, half-amused.
Prabhu laughed again, shaking his head. "I think she even gave me a follow request on my private Instagram account. Saw that right after leaving the village."
At that, Tamizh's mood shifted from playful to furious in an instant. Her face turned red, her lips twisted in a scowl, and her eyes flared with indignation. "That brat! I warned her to stay away from you, and yet she went behind my back and sent you a follow request? Let me give her a nice earful before I tell her mother, who will give her a good beating!" She fished out her phone, ready to make good on her threat.
But Prabhu, still driving, quickly snatched the phone from her hand. "Hayee, calm down di," he said, trying to placate her.
Tamizh made a half-hearted attempt to grab her phone back, her eyes still blazing. "You're the one to blame here! Why are you encouraging her, huh?"
Prabhu laughed hard, unable to contain himself. "Okay, fine, she didn't send me any follow request. In fact, after that temple thing, she never even came around me. Nor did I notice her anywhere. I just messed around with you," he admitted, winking at her.
Tamizh's anger softened into a reluctant smile, though she still tried to maintain her glare. Prabhu handed her phone back with a sheepish grin, knowing he'd pushed her buttons just enough.
"And I'm not a paedophile to impress or even encourage a kid, okay? I had no idea some kid was developing crush feelings on me while I was out there trying so hard to impress my girlfriend who was upset with me because she broke up with me," Prabhu added with a teasing smile.
They both laughed at the absurdity of it all, the tension melting away as their shared humour filled the car.
As the laughter subsided and the mood turned back to normal, Prabhu focused on the road ahead, a sense of contentment settling between them.
But just as they fell into a comfortable silence, Tamizh dropped a bombshell. "I think I want to move in with you."
Prabhu's hands froze on the steering wheel, his mind racing to process what she had just said. He turned to look at her, his eyes wide with surprise and a slow, dawning realisation of what it meant.
The road ahead blurred as his focus shifted entirely to the woman sitting beside him, the woman he loved more than anything in the world.
