Chapter 63
Lily's POV
I finally finish my last physiotherapy session, and the therapist looked genuinely shocked at how far I'd come. I could only smirk, knowing exactly what had helped me recover so quickly. Who knew Finn pushing me to my limits—both on and off the field—was just what I needed? Turns out, some extra-curricular activities in bed do wonders when you've got a blue-eyed boy to motivate you.
Stepping outside the hospital, my phone buzzes. Finn's name lights up the screen.
Lovebug: Game night tonight. The guys are insisting... You in, babe? xx
A grin spreads across my face, my fingers quickly tapping out a reply.
Me: Yeah, sure xx
Lovebug: Nice, see you at mine xx
Fast forward a few hours, and I'm at Finn's place. His scent wraps around me as soon as I walk through the door, and before I can even set my bag down, his arm slips around my waist, pulling me in for a kiss. It's effortless. Everything with him is.
Within minutes, we're all gathered—me, Jen, Kam, Shawn, Kai, and Finn—ready for whatever chaos the night brings.
"You guys ready for some friendly competition?" Kai grins, standing beside Jen, who rolls her eyes but can't help laughing.
"Friendly competition?" I raise a brow at Finn, whose face is doing its best to stay neutral, though the slight twitch of his lips gives him away.
"Don't worry," he says, winking. "We'll go easy on you."
I scoff, giving his shoulder a playful shove. "As if."
Kam claps her hands together. "Okay, scavenger hunt teams are set! Boys versus girls. Loser buys drinks for the next week."
Shawn smirks. "Prepare to be broke, ladies."
"Alright, let's get this started!" Jen exclaims, grabbing a slip of paper from a cap on the coffee table and reading aloud with a dramatic flair,
"Clue 1: Where champions are made, and friendships begin, you'll find your next clue where you'll win."
"Soccer field," Kam and I say in unison, already heading for the door.
"Wait for us!" Kai yells, as the guys scramble to catch up.
"Yeah, that's cheating!" Shawn shouts after us.
"You snooze, you lose, bitches!" Jen cackles as we sprint out of Finn's apartment.
We barely make it to the bus stop in time, laughing as we pile in. "Why did we have to play a game that involves running?" Kam laughs breathlessly, clutching the pole as we head toward campus.
Minutes later, we're sprinting across the soccer field, Jen finding the clue taped to one of the goalposts. "Got it!" she shouts, waving it triumphantly in the air.
"Clue 2: Where the lights were wild, and the drinks were strong, you'll find your next clue where we partied all night long,"
"Bridges Hall," Kam says, and we take off again.
At the hall, it's Kam who spots the next clue, hidden behind a bench. "Found it!"
She tears it open, and we all huddle around as she reads the final clue.
"Clue 3: You've come this far, but don't get lost—find the place where new faces start off and come for an adventure or perhaps punishment."
"What the hell does that even mean?" Jen says, her brow furrowing.
"Think," I say, biting my lip. "New faces... start off..."
Kam's eyes widen. "Oh my god. Where new students come for orientation! That's the giant field for Freshers Week."
We take off toward the field, my heart racing for more than just the sprint. As we approach, I slow down, my breath catching when I see him.
Finn.
Standing there in a tux, holding up a shirt that reads, Here to help, a playful grin tugging at his lips.
It hits me all at once. The soccer field—where I'd apologized, where we'd decided to be friends. Bridges Hall—the night of our first party. And now this—the exact spot where I'd first bumped into him, back when he was just the volunteer with a stupid shirt.
The girls' giggles echo in my ears as I walk toward Finn, my heart thudding in my chest. I feel like an idiot for not putting it all together sooner—the clues, the places. They weren't just random stops on a scavenger hunt. They were our memories. The moments that mattered.
I stop in front of him, trying to hold back the overwhelming emotions bubbling up inside me. Finn's smile is soft, but there's something deeper in his eyes tonight. Something I can't quite place. His hand reaches up, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear, and I lean into his touch, feeling the warmth radiating from him.
"Took you long enough," he teases, his voice low and filled with affection.
I laugh, shaking my head. "You're sneaky, you know that?"
He grins, but it doesn't reach his eyes in the usual playful way. There's something more serious lingering in his gaze, something heavy with meaning.
"Do you remember," Finn starts, his tone softening, "what you told me one night? After the brawl with Nate at yours."
My breath catches, and my mind races back to that moment—the night Nate and Finn nearly tore each other apart. That was the night I'd let my guard down completely. I had told him things I never thought I'd say out loud. He chuckles lightly, breaking me out of my thoughts.
My breath hitches, and for a second, I'm back there—back to the night everything shifted between us. I told him things I never told anyone else. He chuckles softly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"You said you wanted a love like your parents'," he continues, his eyes never leaving mine. "A love that made you feel cherished and safe ..."
".... just like my parents," I finish quietly, my voice trembling as the memory rushes back in vivid detail. My heart feels like it's in freefall.
"I've spent every moment trying to make you feel cherished, safe and loved," he continues, his voice steady but thick with emotion. "And I don't want to spend another second of my life without you."
Before I can even process what's happening, Finn reaches into his pocket, and my breath hitches when I see the small velvet box in his hand. My heart leaps into my throat as he opens it, revealing the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. It sparkles under the dim lights, but nothing shines brighter than the look in his eyes as he watches me.
"Butterfly," he says, his voice cracking just slightly as he steadies himself, "I want to be your epic love. The one who's there in all the small moments and the big ones. The one who makes you feel everything you've ever dreamed of, and more. If you'll let me, I want to spend the rest of my life loving you the way you deserve to be loved."
The tears come fast and hard. I'm not even sure I'm breathing at this point because my chest feels too tight, my body shaking from the sheer force of the emotions crashing through me. I can barely see him through the blur of my tears, but it doesn't matter. Finn is all I feel—his words, his love, his presence filling every empty part of me.
He lifts a hand, gently brushing away the tears that fall down my cheeks, his thumb lingering on my skin as he continues.
"From the moment I met you, you've been everything, Lily. You made me want to be better, to be someone worthy of your heart. Every second with you has made me fall harder, deeper, more in love than I ever thought I could be. And I don't want to spend another moment of my life without you by my side."
Finn's voice shakes slightly as he speaks.
"Lilianna Marcella Garcia... will you do me the honour of allowing me to be your epic love, the one whose heart stays tangled with yours, forever? Will you marry me?"
There's no way I could ever untangle myself from him—not that I would ever want to.
His words hit me with so much force that my whole body trembles. I can't breathe. I can't think. I can only feel—feel the overwhelming love radiating from this man who has become my everything.
My throat tightens as I try to find the words, but they're stuck behind the lump in my throat. My whole body trembles, and all I can do is nod, frantically, as sobs spill out of me.
"Yes," I manage to choke out, barely able to speak through the tears. "Yes, Finn. Oh my God, yes."
The relief that floods his face nearly brings me to my knees. He takes my shaking hand in his, gently slipping the ring onto my finger. The instant it's in place, he stands, pulling me into his arms, holding me so tightly I feel like I'll never fall again. My face is buried against his chest, and I'm sobbing uncontrollably, but it's the happiest I've ever felt.
"I love you," I whisper between sobs, gripping his shirt like he might disappear if I let go. "I love you so much."
He kisses the top of my head, his own voice thick holding back tears. "I love you too, Butterfly. More than anything. More than you'll ever know."
"She said YES !!" Finn suddenly yells, spinning me around in his arms as the guys cheer louder, and the girls burst into a fit of giggles through their tears.
But none of it matters. In this moment, it's just me and Finn, standing in the very spot where it all began. Where I bumped into him, completely unknowing that this would be the man I'd fall head over heels for. The man I'd never be able to live without.
Finn sets me down, but not before pulling me into a kiss that feels like forever wrapped in one moment. He pulls back just enough to look into my eyes, his hand cupping my face.
"So," he whispers, a small grin tugging at his lips, "did I manage to pull off an epic proposal, or...?"
I laugh, my tears still flowing, "You've always been my epic love, Finn. Always."
Still laughing, I look up at him through the tears, knowing—absolutely knowing—that this is it.
He's it.
As I gaze into his beautiful blue eyes, I know with every part of me that this man is my forever.
My one, true, epic love.
The one I never saw coming but now can't imagine my life without.
