Ok, so, as much as I LOVE Descendants, this is NOT the 'If Only' from descendants! I felt it was important to address this, as some people cannot access the videos when people put them in, so sing your little heart out to THAT if only here. It's the If Only from the little mermaid, so it's different.

So, information on this au, it's pretty much the Disney little mermaid, but it's got tangled characters. Kind of like the Enchanted book I have, but... I hit a wall. I got writers block 😭😭😭. 

Also the casting is Cass as Ariel, Varian as Eric, Rapunzel as... ok I may have added a few characters, Eric's big sis, Eugene is Varian's Idol and Rapunzel's boyfriend, and they're all besties. So Var's always accompanied by his sister and Eugene. Eugene knows that Cass has a crush on Var, and is really overprotective. He also is really into ocean stuff, so he's investigating why Cass came out of the blue, NEXT TO THE OCEAN! and apparently has no voice, and yet just a few days earlier, Varian almost drowned and heard a beautiful voice, and was left BY THE WATER. So, he's kind of suspicious of Cass, and has almost figured out that Cass is a mermaid, and still believes mermaids are evil. Even when Cass has been the kindest person to all of them. Well, she tries to, but really doesn't like Eugene, and is skeptical of many things.

Varian walked on the beach, longing to hear that beautiful voice again. He felt as if he knew her... as if she was right there with him, closer than he realized. He heard someone open a window in the tower behind him. He turned around and saw his friend leaning out of the window. He realized he had never learned her name...

"Hey, miss?" He called. She waved. "What's your name?" She looked sort of surprised when she heard this, but quickly shook it away. She made a 'c' with her hands. "C?" Then she made an 'a'. "A? Are you spelling out your name?" He asked. She nodded. Then she continued on to spell 'Cassandra'. "Cassandra? That's a beautiful name... could I call you Cassie?" He saw his dear friend nod. He smiled. She was so kind. He loved her. Well, as a friend! He thought... She closed her window and went back in her room. Why did she feel so... he couldn't find the word for it. He shook it off and continued down the beach to an area where he would usually hang out with his sister, Eugene, or go to when he just needed a moment of peace. It was empty tonight. Eugene was at his place doing who-knows-what. For some reason he didn't trust their friend Cass, and insisted she was an evil mermaid. He was probably studying mermaid behaviors or something.

Cassandra walked to her bed. Land people were weird. But, in a good way. She wished she could just... talk to him. Say, 'I love you!' Or, 'how are you?' Or, even, just a simple, 'Hello'. 

'If only you could know, the things I long to say.'

She stood up. She kept thinking of Varian, just wanting to talk to him. All she could do was listen. If he was hurting, she couldn't say anything to help, if he was happy, she couldn't express that she loved that. She didn't want to be silent.

'If only I could tell you, what I wish I could convey. It's in my every glance, my heart's an open book! You'd see it all at once if only you would look...'

She walked over to the window to see if he was still there. She was disappointed to find he wasn't there. She opened the window again for a soft breeze.

'If only you could glimpse, the feelings that I feel.'

Rapunzel was walking along the beach now. She had found a necklace that seemed as if it was glowing. It had a clam pendant with a pearl inside. She put it on and immediately heard music. Huh. She noticed her friend's window open. Hadn't Varian said her name was Cass?

'If only you could notice what I'm dying to reveal!'

Did she just... sing? No that can't be right! She can't talk! She didn't even open her mouth! ... was this a magic necklace that allowed her to hear Cassandra?

'The dreams I can't declare, the needs I can't deny! You'd understand them all if only you would try~'

Cass walked back in her room.

'All my secrets, you would learn them, all my longings, you'd return them!'

She danced around her room gracefully.

'Then~ the silence! Would be broken! Not a word would need be spoken~'

Cassandra touched her throat gently. Rapunzel ran to her brother, she knew exactly where he would be. She saw him singing.

"What is it about her that's so wonderfully, impossibly familiar~"

He sang, talking about Cassandra.

"Why do I feel dizzy, in a way I've only felt but once before~"

Rapunzel walked over to her brother, who stood up from the bench he had been sitting on.

"How come when she looks at me it feels like time, stops moving~"

She looked at him. She decided on writing down the lyrics that she heard Cassandra singing. The tower was only a few hundred feet away, hopefully not out of the necklace's range.

"Almost like the way it did the day upon the shore~"

She started to hear Cassandra again.

"But that voice~"

              "If only it were true, if only for a while"

"Ah, that voice~"

               "If only you would notice how I ache behind my smile!"

"Where's that voice~"

               "I guess you never will, I guess it doesn't show"

 Varian sat back down.

                 "But if I never find a way to tell you so~, oh what I would give if only you,"

"Memories fade, strange how they blur,"

                                                                       "Could know~"

"But when she calls to me, I'll know, it's her~"

Varian noticed his sister writing next to him.

                                                                               "If only~"

"What are you writing?"
