My Journey | Aug - Nov 2019

As part of my 1k Celebration series, in this chapter, I review all the work I've done so far since August. Grab your cup of tea and join me in taking a quick trip down memory lane.

Gimp

Yes guys, I was this bad. Initially, I did two designs on Canva (which I can't seem to find) - the two designs that started off my designing journey. It was the cover for my story, Kennedy Holmes, and another for the Search Party Module which I made for QueenXirinOfArvada. Must've deleted them a while ago, but it's nothing worth showing tbh. My Canva phase ended pretty quickly though; after a week or so with Canva, I moved on to Gimp. My first legit design there was my remake of the Kennedy Holmes cover. At the time, I thought it turned out amaze, and hence started asking my fellow Contests community members to make covers for their characters' story as part of a collective Whodunit Mystery contest.

Gimp/Photoshop

Throughout most of September, I continued using Gimp to design my covers. The top row consists of covers I made from Gimp. Considering the lack of advanced tools there, I think I did a fairly alright job. It was also great that I started with Gimp because I familiarised myself with the basic tools used for graphic designing. This made the transition to Photoshop much smoother and worth it. Near the end of September, that's when I made the official yeet to Photoshop. Switching to Photoshop can be considered the turning point of my journey. Having access to a plethora of tools really elevated my designs, and you can see a stark difference in my designs at the top compared to the bottom. It was also around that time that I decided to create my portfolio, and joined my first contest hosted by the lovely Miss_Sarcastic27. I didn't expect to place first in my first contest entry, considering how short of a period I'd been designing, so it was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Photoshop - Beginner

October was my most productive month. I managed to enter a lot of contests and familiarise myself even more with Photoshop. I experimented with different types of designs and tried my best to be creative. Though they're not absolutely amazing covers, they do show that I've come a long way in my designing journey. I have managed to learn a lot in this month alone, which can be seen by my designs at the beginning of the month (top left) compared to the end (bottom right). I feel I have somewhat established my style - clear and simplistic.

Photoshop - Slightly amateur

Can't believe November flew by so fast! Damn, I hardly made any covers this month because of my busy schedule. However, this is the month where I really saw improvement in my skills. I worked on a text-based cover for the first time and was very proud of the result. I plan to focus more on that soon. I also worked more on fantasy-themed covers, as those are a little meh for me. My favourite out of the three this month would be Red Scarf though. I just love the composition of the elements, especially the glowing red scarf which really elevated the design. Overall, even though I didn't produce a lot of graphics, I think they were all quality designs compared to my former ones. A job well done, Tammy! Lol sometimes you just need to give yourself a pat on the back, don't always wait for others to do it for you if you already know you is popping! 😜☕
