CHAPTER 18
Asawa
“No meetings, Theo?”
She’s wearing a red dress with high slit on her legs.
“This punk being here only means he’s free.
I also didn’t introduce him to my friends since I don’t have them at that particular ceremony. I can clearly remember his agitation ending that night.
“Then this is a double celebration. You for passing the board, and for Theo being here after months of MIA.” ngumisi ang babae. I don't know her name though.
“U-huh. We’ll make sure he won’t leave the premises without being knocked out. His wife is here to take care of him anyway.” the other man uttered.
Samuel peered at me, with a lopsided grin. While Chaz dark irises remained on me, almost unblinking. My chest were thumping wildly. Nakakatunaw. If I’m not on my seat, my knees would probably fail me.
“Have a seat bro.
I hold my breathe when Chaz gladly followed him. His scent filled me after a while.
I.. I actually miss his natural scent.
I pursed my lips and muster a calm expression.
He called for the attention of the man who’s currently serving the other guest.
“Yes, Sir? How may I help you?”
“Order everything you want. It’s on the house.” Samuel said, looking at Chaz.
“Can I have a glass of water?”
Our eyes locked, but his were mellow and dark. His stares alone makes my knees turns into jelly. Mabuti na lang talaga at nakaupo ako!
“And Lemonade,”
But before he could take a step, someone from the group halted him moving.
“Man don’t be pussy. We’re here to celebrate and you ordered water, and juice?” mapang-uyam na tanong nito.
Though, Samuel seems to dislike his sudden question.
“What’s wrong with water and juice?” Chaz calmly asked.
“We’re in a club bro, how do you expect them to serve you with those types of drinks?” the man asked again with a menacing tone of voice.
“That is my request. What’s the use of building this business if they will not meet the demand of their customers?” salubong ang kilay na tanong ni Chaz.
“Bro, this is a celebration. Go give him your best and hardest drink. Vodka, yes. That’s it. Hindi iyong tubig lang!” Humalakhak ang lalaki.
The waiter seemed to be torn between the two. They ordered different drinks and he must be in turmoil as to who he shall follow.
“I did not say this is not. Also, stop calling me bro, I’m not your brother.” Chaz rebutted, sounding pissed.
Nabura ang mapang-uyam na ngisi ng lalaki. The table fall into a serene silence after.
Chaz snapped his head to the server. “Go on, bring us your hard drinks and serve it to him. Siya ang nakaisip siya ang dapat uminom.”
I hold the smirk that was forming on my face. Hind talaga magpapatalo ang isang ‘to. I can attest to that. The man was already glaring at Chaz but the latter remained to unbothered.
“Stick with juice and water. Disregard the Vodka. You may leave.” pumagitna si Samuel.
“Kris what’s wrong with you?
“I only said what’s the best. Who the fuck is in their right man will asked for a water in this shitty place, huh?”
“Their likes are out of your concern. So what if they want water instead of alcohol? Man, we’re in a democratic country. We’re free to choose whatever the fuck we wanted regardless of the place!”
Nagusot ang mukha ko. So much for the cursing. Forte yata ng mga ito ang pagmumura!
Kris laugh then looked at me, humor is evident on his face.
I gritted my teeth. His fault was obvious, but he is feigning ignorance. Ibang klase!
“Theo is here as my guest. You should let them be if you still want to have a reason to celebrate.
“That’s enough Samuel. Fighting over this matter is a pity.” Chaz said.
My head voluntarily snapped into Chaz direction. He arched a brow. I fake a cough and looked away.
The waiter arrived with a glass of water and lemonade.
“Finish your drink and we’ll go home.” he said in almost a whisper.
I glanced at him, now calmly drinking his water.
“Do you prefer the vodka, wife?” tanong niya, pinaglalaruan ang baso sa kamay.
“Of course not, hubby! I will vouch for this over that vodka. Good for the health!”
His lips twitched. I smiled again but deep inside, I already want to lash out. The nerve of him to act as if we’re good! Mukhang nakakalimutan niyang halos isang linggo siyang hindi umuwi! Hindi nagpakita sa akin! Nagsimulang umusbong ang iritasyon sa loob ko.
“Sofia right?” tanong bigla ni Samuel.
I release a deep breath and nodded my head. “Yes, Sofia Grace,”
Ngumiti siya. “If you don’t mind me asking, how’s life living with Theo? He’s my friend, and I can say that he’s not that gentlemen. Mahirap pakisamahan. I’m sure he’s giving you a hard time, too. After all, you’re both a stranger's to each other when you married.”
I grinned when an idea cross my mind. Samuel is sitting beside us in the long couch and I’m sure the other’s will not heard the conversation. Plus, they have their own world.
But it’s fine, my expectation is not that great anyway.” I shrugged my shoulders. “He always has his ways to disappoint me.”
Samuel’s lips rounded. “Fuck man, you always disappoint her pala. Dapat baguhin mo na ‘yang ugali mo. May asawa ka na.” he said, as if disappointed.
“It’s fine Samuel. Men like him won’t change. It’s their nature.
I hide the smirk forming on my lips by drinking on my juice. I emptied the glass of it.
“Don’s ask him, he will just give you his lame excuses.”
Humakhak si Samuel, may kasama pang pag-iling.
“If you want to escape, tawagan mo lang ako. Itatakas kita."
Ngumisi ako. Mukhang magkakasundo kami nitong kaibigan niya. I thought he was stiff, that was my first impression about him.
He was the first friend of Chaz whom I personally knew. Oh well, I don’t even know if he has a circle of friends to begin with.
“Are you done, wife?” Chaz words snapped me out of my reverie
I blinked my eyes and gaze sideways. Perhaps he didn’t like the conversation I had with Samuel? Kasi nilalag ko siya?
But on the other hand, I should be the one being mad at him!
“I want another glass of juice. Can I, Samuel?”
“Yeah of course! I’ll get one for you.” he volunteered.
“No need, no need!
“Leave it to me. You’re my guest, it’s only right to provide you your needs.” he smiled without teeth.
“What about you bro? Another water?”
None of us back down even after Samuel’s question.
“I’m good. We’re going home anyway.” he said without breaking the eye contact.
Tumaas ang kilay ko. “Ikaw lang ang uuwi.” mataman kong sinabi.
His eyes grow more intense.“We are, woman. You’re going home with me.” his deep and husky voice almost.. made me shiver.
“Make me..” “Old man,” I whispered the last word that only us can hear.
His eyes narrowed. Mas lalong dumilim ang mga iyon.
“I’m having fun here, do not spoil the moment.” I saw him gulped, making my inside rejoice in victory.
Unfortunately, it was only short-lived as his next move rendered me speechless. Chaz Theo hold my chin before angling his head. I can feel his breath fanning in the narrow space of neck making my eyes widen a fraction.
“Old man, yeah?” bulong nito.
His nose even touch the skin of neck. I hold his shoulder in attempt to push him away, but I suddenly felt weak.
“Well wife, this old man can still make your legs tremble. One way or another.” he whispered. His voice suddenly becomes sensual.
I began to panic. I tried to push him but he let go of my chin and was fast to held my hand in capture. He looked at me, eyes seems to be drunk and hooded.
“Behave wife. Don’t provoke this old man. Or else..”
“Pia!”
Someone squealed, waking my senses. My breathing were ragged as I tried to compose myself.
I cleared my throat.
“Dito ka lang sa tabi ko,” he said, loud enough that everyone on the table heard it.
Kinagat ko ang ibabang labi. I can feel my cheeks heating up especially when I surveyed my surrounding and saw them staring at us.
I looked away. “U-Uh..” gumapang ang kaba sa loob ko.
“Mr. Fuentes, you’re here?!” Jenny exclaimed, as if flabbergasted.
Chaz didn’t answer her. Even without looking, I know his eyes were darted at me. Ramdam ko. Dumapo ang mata ko sa alak na nasa lamesa malapit sa banda ko, dala ng pagkataranta, my hands moved on its own. I fill my glass with it.
“Sinusundo mo?
Without thinking, I emptied the liquor on the glass.
I heard Jenny laugh. “Malamang eh, alak ‘yan!” she pointed out.
“I told you not to drink alcohol.” he hissed.
I felt him moved that our legs touched.
“Take this. It will make the nasty taste subside.”
He urged me to open my hand and slid the thing down. When I checked what it was, I can’t help but to be confused. Binalik ko ang tingin sa kaniya.
He looked away immediately.
I gnaw on my lower lip. It was a candy, wrapped in a mixed silver and white pack. I was debating to consume it, the bitter taste was fading anyway.
“Tss,” Chaz murmured before stealing the candy on my hand. Siya mismo ang nagtanggal ng balot.
“Open your mouth.” he commanded.
“What?” I asked bewildered.
Chaz tilted his head.
“Come one wife, say ah..”
I heard someone gasped.
“You didn’t tell me this how sweet kuya Theo is, Sofia.” aniya saka binuntunan ng tawa.
Muling namula ang pisngi ko.
“Akin na ‘yan, Chaz.” angil ko.
Tumaas ang kilay ni Chaz, nanghahamon.
“Go girl, huwag nang maarte! Kung gusto mo palit tayo!” it was Jenny this time.
His finger accidentally graced the lower part of my lip. I opened my eyes because of it only to be shocked when he bring that specific finger on his mouth.
“Hmm.. nakakawala nga.” Tumango-tango pa ito.
Umawang ang labi ko sa nasaksihan. Umakto siyang parang walang nangyari. I simply touched my chest where my heart was racing.
I bite my lips and finally have the courage to detached my gaze away from him. I bowed my head, looking at the glass before me.
“Sayaw tayo, Pia?”
Jenny was grinning. May nanunuksong ngiti sa labi.
“Ikaw na lang, Jenny.” sagot ko.
She pouted. “Hindi naman tayo magtatagal, Pia. Minsan nga lang ‘to,eh!”
“Me, Jenny! I want to dance!” Luckette chanted.
“Great! Mas masaya kapag marami, diba Pia?” Jenny asked again.
I shook my head. It’s safer if I will just sit on the corner.
“I don’t feel like dancing. I’m sorry. Sa susunod na lang.”
Bumagsak ang balikat ni Jenny. Nakonsensya naman ako, pero kailangan.
“The dance floor is going wild. It will be fun! Sama ka na!” Luckette said, with her convincing voice.
Umiling pa rin ako.
“Pia—”
“My wife has decided. I’m sorry to say this but you can leave now and enjoy the wild dance floor without her.”
“Bitch let’s go!” she then dragged Luckette away from us.
That was my friend!” mahina pero mariin kong tanong sa kaniya.
“Alam ko at bakit ka nagagalit? I just save your ass.”
“Then go follow them. Pabalikin mo rito’t magpakipot ka ulit.”
“Mag pa—what?” I hissed. Tumaas ang boses ko, nagsisimulang mairita.
Chaz removed his hand that is placed on my waist and choose to cross arms.
“If you are that bothered they left you with me, go. Chase them..” he trailed. “Hindi kita pipigilan.” walang emosyong pagtatapos niya.
Naikuyom ko ang mga palad. This is my chance to get away from him.
Despite his hardened expression, there is something on his eyes.. that I’m terrified to point out. Or maybe, it was the empty and cold feeling that’s starting to engulfed me the moment he withdraw his warm palm on my waist?
Hindi ko na alam..
Because I was looking at his side profile, the very brief movement of his lips didn’t missed my vision.
Did.. did he just pout?
Our gazed locked, although this time he’s now glaring at me. I released a deep sighed and closed my eyes. I breath in and out, calming every muscles on my body.
He didn’t answer me for a minute and stare at me instead.
“How about your friend?” he asked after a while.
I looked at the door, as if I can see Jenny through it.
“I.. I will call her.”
Chaz nod his and stood up. Tumayo na rin ako. The rest of the people in the table glanced at us. But Samuel, who happened to overheard our conversation was grinning.
“We’ll go first, Samuel. Congrats again bro.” Chaz said.
Tumayo si Samuel. “Can I convince you to stay for another hour? Nagsasaya pa si Sofia.”
“Is she?” Chaz tilted his head. “She actually looked bored.”
Samuel chuckled
“Alright then.” he declared. “See you when I see you, Sofia.”
I smiled. “Congrats ulit!”
We take the stairs and I almost fell when a woman bumped into me.
“Ops, s-sorry..” she blurted out.
“It’s fine. Be careful, Miss.”
Tumango-tango ito saka ako nilagpasan. “You can remove your hand now, Chaz.”
Our bodies were touching, yet Chaz didn’t seem to mind it.
“The dance floor is crowded. I shouted.
I nodded my head. I instantly called her number, however, I could not reach her. I ended up informing her through text.
“I have my car with me.
”Tatay Bernardo is on the way, you can leave your car here.”
Gulat ko siyang dinungaw. “Bakit m—”
“No need for convoy, woman.
Joke ba ‘yan?” I pointed him with my phone.
He took a step forward before holding my wrist. “Why? Sa ibang bahay ka ba umuuwi?” he pulled my wrist closer.
He’s with Harry all along!
“Let go.
“In the first place, why did you instruct him to go here? Inisturbo mo ang tao! He could be resting by now!”
He sighed. “You’ll go with me, woman.
“I won’t,”
Who knows what will happen to you while driving?”
I laughed sarcastically. “It’s not on your vocabulary to worry about my safety. So cut the crap and leave me alone.”
On the second attempt, I finally freed my wrist.
Chaz sighed again. “I do care, woman. Cuz if not, we wouldn’t be here, arguing.”
I rolled my eyes. Mas lalo akong naiinis sa kasinungalingan niya. The nerve to say that he cares when all he think about is his lover.
“Do not bullshit me, Chaz.
Tumalikod ako at nagsimulang hanapin ang sariling sasakyan. I heard his heavy footsteps behind my back.
“Miss Perez,” he called me.
I hold the door handle and was about to open it when suddenly, I felt my self floating.
“Chaz Theo!” I yelped in surprise.
His jaw clenched. “Ang tigas pa rin ulo mo, babae. What will I do to you, huh?”
“Put me down, you idiot!” I tried to wiggle my feet on the air, hence it was no use.
I felt like a cotton on his arms.
“That’s bad wife. I’m not idiot.”
“I’m serious, Chaz. Ibaba mo ‘ko, o sisigaw ako?!” I threatened.
He chuckled and shook his head, growing my frustration.
"Go on shout all you want. Let's see if they will help you."
I shouted on the top of lungs.
Karamihan sa kanila ay mga lalaki. Mukha namang matitino kaya malakas ang loob kong nagsusumigaw. The two man who’s currently smoking and leaning on a white car got alerted.
However, my hopes fall six feet under the ground when the man who’s carrying me intervened.
“She’s my wife. I’m harmless. We just had a little argument. Alam niyo na.. away mag-asawa.”
