ARTIFICIAL LOVE

Baekhyun's p.o.v.

"Do you want kids, Baekhyun?" Chanyeol's question echoed through Baekhyun's head. Baekhyun blinked and opened his mouth, but no words came out — he was in too much shock to speak.

"Is that a 'no', then?" Chanyeol murmured. Baekhyun's eyes snapped up to Chanyeol, saw his downcast face, and gasped, "No! I mean, my answer isn't 'no'. I'm just . . . shocked."

Chanyeol nodded and muttered, "Yeah, I did ask kind of suddenly." Baekhyun nodded and asked, "Chanyeol? When you ask if I want kids, you mean adoption? But adoption can take y—" Chanyeol hushed him with a kiss and said, "Baekhyun. I'm not talking about adoption." Baekhyun frowned. "Then what are you talking about?"

"I can't say right now because I won't be able to explain it well enough, but I had talked to a doctor about it, and he can tell you," Chanyeol explained.

Baekhyun felt a sudden surge of excitement as he asked, "When?" Chanyeol smiled and kissed Baekhyun forehead as he replied, "We can go now. It's not too late." Baekhyun nodded vigorously and said, "Yes, let's go now."

Chanyeol's p.o.v.

Chanyeol drove them to the hospital where the doctor worked — the subject of what Chanyeol was considering had only come up because yesterday he had to drive there to get a statement from a woman who had been mugged and mildly beaten. Chanyeol parked near the front of the hospital close to the sliding doors and turned to face Baekhyun.

"Are you ready?" Chanyeol asked. He noticed Baekhyun was biting his bottom lip, something he only did when he was nervous or unsure of himself. Chanyeol reached over and brushed his fingertips across the back of Baekhyun's hand. Baekhyun blinked and released his bottom lip from the abuse of his teeth.

"I'm sorry. What did you say?" Baekhyun asked distractedly. Chanyeol sighed and muttered, "I asked if you were ready." Baekhyun nodded and said a little too fast, "Yeah, I'm good. Let's go." Chanyeol pursed his lips, but he didn't dare say anything — he didn't want to make Baekhyun mad.

They got out of the car and Chanyeol grabbed Baekhyun's hand as they reached the doors. Chanyeol went to the main desk and said, "Hello. Could you tell me if Dr. Wang is in?" The receptionist said, "Yes, he's in today. Do you have an appointment?" Chanyeol smiled and said, "Not exactly. Could you just inform him that Park Chanyeol is here to see him," Chanyeol said in an authoritative voice; he wasn't sheriff for nothing. The receptionist pursed her lips and said, "Alright, sir. One moment, please."

Baekhyun's p.o.v.

Baekhyun stared at Chanyeol in amazement and muttered, "God, that was hot." Chanyeol laughed. Then sudden realization struck Baekhyun and he asked, "Chanyeol? Dr. Wang is the man who preformed my surgery, isn't he?" Chanyeol nodded and muttered, "Yeah, he is."

Baekhyun didn't know what else to say. He was just so shocked. Who would of thought, Dr. Wang would be the one to tell them if they could have children without having to go through an adoption agency.

After another moment, Dr. Wang was walking towards them; and it didn't look like he had aged a day. "Hello, Chanyeol!" Dr. Wang called.

Why is he on first-name bases with my husband? Baekhyun wondered.

"Hello, Dr. Wang," Chanyeol replied with a friendly smile. "Oh, you don't have to use formalities," Dr. Wang said.

Yes, he better fucking should! Baekhyun wanted to yell, but settled for screaming it inside his head.

"No, thank you, though," Chanyeol said.

Good, giant, Baekhyun thought, mentally patting Chanyeol's head.

"Anyway, I'm here because I would like you to explain to my husband the things you had told me," Chanyeol said. Dr. Wang blinked in surprise and said, "You're married?" Chanyeol nodded and held up the hand with his ring that was laced with Baekhyun's as he said proudly, "Six years now." Dr. Wang smiled and said, "Well, congratulation. I remember you both from . . . Well, before. I'm glad you're married now, and, looking to start a family." Chanyeol smiled. "Okay, Mr. Park's, follow me," Dr. Wang said.

He lead them through a side door that opened up to a narrow hallway with doors on either side, and he stopped at one towards the end on their right. "My office," he explained. "Okay, why don't each of you take a seat while I explain." Baekhyun nodded and took a seat near the open window; Chanyeol sat down beside him and grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together. "Okay, what I proposed to Chanyeol yesterday was — artificial insemination. Obviously that'd be impossible for either of you, but luckily, we had a scientific breakthrough where it involves couples of the same sex. With this new discovery involving the artificial insemination, you would both provide a sample of your sperm, then in which the hospital would find a surrogate mother to carry your baby for you. So, do you have any questions?"

Baekhyun opened and closed his mouth, speechless and amazed. Finally he managed to say, "So we can really have a baby that has our DNA? We won't have to adopt and go through the trouble of worrying about the child's past?" Dr. Wang shook his head and smiled. "Yes, your baby would be one hundred percent Park and— I believe, former Byun?" Baekhyun nodded, his eyes glassy with tears. He couldn't even explain how happy he was right now — it went beyond words.

Baekhyun turned to Chanyeol and squeezed his hand. "I want to do this! I want to have a baby that would be ours," Baekhyun said. Chanyeol clamped down on the overflow of emotion he was feeling and pulled Baekhyun towards him. He placed one hand on Baekhyun's cheek and kissed his forehead, then whispered against his skin, "I'm so happy, and I can't wait until we have our baby." Baekhyun hiccuped a happy sob and unlaced his hand from Chanyeol's as he brought them up to Chanyeol's face and gently clasped his cheeks, and kissed him squarely on the lips. Chanyeol smiled beneath Baekhyun's mouth, and tangled his hand up into Baekhyun's hair as he kissed him back just as passionately.
