Once Upon A Time..

Once upon a time…

In a galaxy far, far away…

"Pfft."  Tamara Swift snorted at herself and screwed up the paper, lobbing it to join a small pile of others in the waste basket nearby.

It landed right on target with her barely taking aim, another skill she'd learnt along the way past the 'Immortality Event'. And just to prove a point, she screwed up another piece into a ball and deliberately looked out the window as she casually tossed it.

"Thunk" Yep. Straight in with the others.

This wasn't achieving anything.

She thought it would be easy, that her recent experiences would fly willingly to the paper in a rush to be expressed..
But looking at the half full waste basket, it was proof that this writing thing was a whole lot harder than she'd imagined.

The thoughts were there, the memories, still as vivid as their happening, but for the first time in her life, she felt almost a kind of responsibility in how a reader would see the words, how her experiences should be interpreted.

Oh, sure, they seemed fantastical, magical even, but that was what truth and knowledge brought wasn't it? Knowing what was more than the ordinary world… it wasn't 'magic', it was learning.

Her musings had somehow seen her replace the brush on automatic pilot and brought her to the window, a reflection of herself as well as the view beyond, and even just catching the small movements of birds in the branches, she could shift her vision slightly to see the energy trails they left in their wake, like fine gossamer threads…

There was no getting around it. There was, even now, so much she wanted to write, wanted to say, to remember, or rather, not forget. Plus, perhaps one day it would help someone else who found themselves with a gift that was so difficult to comprehend and adjust to.

"Bong"

Her forehead met the glass, and the cold reminder made her blink and step back, giggling at herself at the error of judgement,

"Stupid. Glad no one saw that while I'm trying to be all mature and lofty." She chuckled, heading back to her desk.

Maybe she was coming at this all wrong. It didn't have to be a story, what she could have done with was a handbook, a guide. hmmm.

Lifting the brush, this time the words seemed to want to write themselves,

"IMMORTALITY…A Beginner's Guide."

Yes. that looked much better. except… she dipped the brush once more, and added "(Gifted)", then nodded. And that completed, she could finally begin..

"Next - Letting go of Mortal Thinking. "
