Tall Tales
The rays of the mid-morning sun target my eyes behind closed lids as they peek through the translucent fabric curtains hung upon my window. I groan softly as I instinctively push my arm in front of my face to block the light. Blinking several times, I let out a yawn and swing my legs to help me sit upright. The comforting smell of bacon and eggs wafts from the kitchen and into my nose. Standing up on wobbly legs, I trudge from my room and down the stairs. The cold wooden steps creak as I hurry downstairs, as if it pains them to feel my weight. "Sans...?" I croak tiredly, rubbing my eyes. "Is that you?"
"AH, HELLO, Y/N!" My friend chirps loudly, poking his head around the corner. "WOULD YOU LIKE SOME BREAKFAST?" Smiling, I nod in response. Sans disappears momentarily before returning with a plate. A fried egg, two slices of bacon, and a fork. Taking the plate from his hands, I turn to the couch. Papyrus lays limp on the cushions, his chest slowly rising and falling with a slight snore. Smirking, I take the fork from my plate and bend down to his level. Reaching forwards, I lightly poke his cheekbone twice.
"Papyrus..." I murmur softly, poking him another time. "Wake up, Papyrus...!" His face furrows in annoyance as he swats my hand away.
"Ugh... K-Kiddo, What is it?" Papyrus rasps tiredly, his eyes fluttering open. I giggle.
"Move over, I gotta sit." I smile. He sits up and scoots to one side as Sans brings out a plate for Papyrus. I plop down on the couch and fish the remote from the cushions. Turning on the T.V., I tune into the news.
"Hello, Darlings of the Surface!" Nabstaton purrs in his robotic voice as the intro music fades away. "I am Nabstaton, your gorgeously amazing news anchor! Here with today's news..." I slowly eat my eggs and bacon as the robot drones on about the latest stories. I swallow a bite of egg as the weather forecast comes on.
"Hello, Monsters and Humans," The weatherman laughs. "There's gonna be some light snow coming in this morning, perfect for snow-angels and hot cocoa by the fire. The snow will pile to about two inches as it comes in north..."
"Hey, finally some snow," I grin, pointing to the T.V. "Maybe when it piles, we can play in it."
"GOOD IDEA, Y/N!" Sans cheers. "WE CAN INVITE CHARA TO PLAY, TOO!" He sits in front of the couch with a plate of toast and watches the T.V.
"Sounds fun, bro. Later tonight, maybe when it's all layered up." Papyrus comments, lighting a cigarette. Sighing, I take the cigarette from him and crush it on the couch arm as I take my last bite of food.
"No smoking." I remind the tall skeleton, walking into the kitchen with my dirty plate. I turn on the tap and scrub the plate clean of all grime and leftover bits of food. Placing the plate in the dishwasher, I walk back out to the two skelebros and smile. "That was great, Sans. You're getting so much better at this." I sit next to him and elbow his shoulder playfully.
"WHY YES, Y/N! THE MAGNIFICENT SANS IS QUITE SKILLED IN THE FINE ART OF CULINARY EXPERTISE!" Sans laughs, his blue eyes sparkling with excitement. I laugh and stand up.
"I'm gonna go get dressed. See you in a minute, guys." I walk back up the stairs and into my bedroom. I throw open my closet doors and rummage through my unorganized outfits until I find something casual. A F/C sweater and a pair of jeans. I take my pajamas off and slip into the new clothes. Tossing my clothes into my hamper, I slip on some socks and drag a brush through my tangled H/C mop.
I smile at my completed look and walk back into the living room. Papyrus is slipping on his shoes, probably going to work. "See ya, Paps," I wave. "Be safe." Papyrus nods and waves goodbye to Sans, who graciously returns the wave with a hug. The taller skeleton leaves the house, leaving Sans and I alone. "So, Sans," I turn to my friend.
"What do you wanna do today?"
