Epilogue

(Edited May 30th, 2019)

(F/D means Favorite Drink).

December 12th, 20XX

I cross off another day on my calendar with a big red 'X', sighing at how fast the year went by after I met Ink. He introduced me to another skeleton, named Dream, just after we met. Apparently, Sans has known him for a while.

Nevertheless, I flop down on my bed and pull out my phone, brushing my hair away from my face. A notification sits patiently on my lock screen, a text, in fact. It reads:

Ink: Hey! Wanna go to the cafe across the street with Dream and I? Dream wants you to meet someone.

Smiling, I type a message of agreement and stand up, moving to my dresser to brush my hair. Dragging the brush through my H/C tangles, I make sure I have everything I need and grab my shoes and jacket, heading downstairs.

"I'm going to the cafe with Dream and Ink!" I yell to Papyrus. "I'll be back at five!"

"Stay safe, Kiddo," Papyrus waves from inside the kitchen, smiling gently. I nod with a smile in return and open the front door, stepping into the winter air. My boots crunch through the snow as I walk down the street, texting Ink the whole way there.

~~~
"Welcome to Grillby's!" Grillby chirps as I step inside. I stomp the excess snow from my boots and walk over to the bar, taking a seat to wait for my friends. My phone buzzes quietly with the indication of a text message.
Ink: Almost there! :)
You: I'll be waiting! ^^
I set my phone down on the bar and order a F/D, reading the menu as I wait. Soon, the drink arrives. I sip it quietly, savouring the taste of it. The bell above the entrance rings quietly. Grillby greets my friends happily as they walk inside.
"Hey, Ink, Hey, Dream!" I wave, standing up. A third skeleton looks around Dream shyly, his rich purple eyes staring into mine."Oh! Hello..." I wave.
"Y/N, this is my brother, Nightmare!" Dream leads the skeleton into the open. He wears mostly purple and blue clothing, with accents of gold on his jacket and boots. A crown with a small rectangular shape sits upon his head, a small, blue, moon-shaped gem resting in the center.
Nightmare simply stares at me with a guilty look in his eye, as if he had done something to upset me. After a moment, he looks to the floor, avoiding eye contact. "Hey," He murmurs.
"I'm Y/N," I hold out my hand. "It's nice to meet you!"
Nightmare briefly looks at my hand before shaking it gently. He nods. "It's... nice to meet you too." He manages to crack a tiny smile as he looks at me.
"Well, lets order some breakfast!" I clap my hands. Ink, Dream, and Nightmare nod in agreement, and we sit at the bar to order our food.
~~~

"Bye, Guys!" Ink and I wave as Dream and Nightmare prepare to teleport away. They wave their goodbyes and walk through the portal, closing the rift behind them after they disappear. I sigh happily and slip my jacket over my shoulders, giving Ink a smile.

"So what should we do next, Inky?" I ask, making up a nickname for my friend. "Go to the field, back to my house? Maybe you can show me one of those alternate universes!" I list the possibilities in excitement, bouncing up and down as Ink grabs his paintbrush.

"Yeah, I guess I could show you one real fast! After all, it has been a while since we went there..." He murmurs the last part with a bit of sadness to his tone, looking to the floor with a gentle smile.

"What do you mean?" I ask curiously. "Who's 'We'?" Ink seems to catch a mistake, as his cheeks flush with rainbows and he laughs nervously.

"Ah... J-Just an old friend. Nothing to worry about...! Honest," He rambles quickly, justifying himself as if to cover up a secret. It's cute the way he does things sometimes... I grin and take his hand in mine. He doesn't pull his hand away, instead intertwining his fingers with mine with a smile.

"Lead the way, then!" I giggle quietly. Without letting go of my hand, he takes out his paintbrush and paints a puddle of rainbow paint across the snowy sidewalk. Letting go of my hand, he instead loops his arm around my waist, and smiles brightly.

"Ready?" He asks.

"Always!" I chirp, giving him a thumbs up. Ink laughs and jumps through the portal, taking me with him.

*You have been here before.

"Shooting star!" I gasp. "Make a wish, Ink!"

My first sight, a galaxy. Unlike the pictures online, the ones people and monsters alike stare at, wishing to see it up close, this one's real. Ten thousand times more glorious than anything seen before in my life. Everything seems to be placed perfectly, each star, each colour, each swirling silver nebulae bringing out the space next to it. Rich shades of red, black, purple, and blue spread endlessly against the canvas that is the sky, blending with each other to cast newer, brighter, more brilliant hues.

"Outertale..." I gasp, covering my mouth with my hand. The skeleton next to me turns at once, a stern look on his face.

"How... How did you know that?" He asks.

"Is your arm okay?" I gasp. The words pop out of my mouth without giving me a chance to process them. "Was it successful? The shadows are gone, right?"

"I-I... You... Wha..." Ink stammers, eyes wide.

"How's Dust? And Error? I spared them, are they doing okay?"

"Y/N, you're remembering... Oh my stars, you're remembering!!" Laughing, he wraps his arms around my waist and swings me around, grinning wildly. At his reaction, I can't help but join in on the laughter, my heart swelling with memories and happiness. When we come to a stop and Ink places me on the ground again, I place my hand near his chest and snap my fingers. An upside-down heart appears in my palm.

"I actually gave this to you... damn, I thought that part was a dream!! Ink, you have a soul, that means you can..."

"Thank you..." I whisper. "For everything..." My hand makes it's way to Ink's cheekbone, my breathing becoming shallow as my form begins to glitch away. I gently place a kiss on his cheek as I fade away, a smile on my lips as I look into his eyes.

"I love you," I whisper sadly, a tear rolling down my face as the last of my body glitches away, the entire world being wiped away from me as I gaze at my friends.

"Shit, I said that to you!!" I shriek. Blushing in embarrassment, I hide my lips with my fingertips."Fucking christ, why did I do that?!"

"Y-You're talking about the 'I love you' thing, right? I--" Ink tries to interject. Looking up into his eyes, I stammer,

"Ink, I'm sorry I know you probably don't accept that, and it was embarrassing for you to hear me say, fuck you could be gay, and I wouldn't know that, but I said that anyways, and I--"

Rolling his eyes, Ink grabs my shoulders and pulls me forwards, pressing his lips against mine in an attempt to shut me up. It works, as the gesture closes off anything else I had to say. Pulling away, he quirks a bone-brow. "Two things, Y/N. Firstly, I'm not gay," He chuckles. "I'm Pansexual. And secondly... You gotta slow down or you're gonna give yourself a heart attack."

"Y-You're not mad? Or embarrassed?" I ask timidly, looking into his eyes.

"Nope. Just flattered," He smiles.

"Then... you don't mind?"

"I love you. Is that what you need me to say?" He smirks, patting my head.

"...Say it again," I smile.

"I love you,"

"Again."

"I love you."

"Again!"

"Je t'aime, Te amo, I love you, I love you, I love you," He says, sticking out his tongue. "Satisfied?"

"Very much so..." I smile softly, wrapping my arms around him and gently nuzzling my face into his scarf.

"I love you, too."

The End.

(A/N)

And that concludes the story of Tall Tales!

I really hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I did writing it. It's been a long journey, one full of confusion, decisions, love, loss, and so much more. I tried to wrap everything up with a nice little bow, one that leaves people feeling happy inside. It makes me so happy, to be able to finish a book and see it end well. I can now call this book complete, my first ever book to do so before the others. Ink is my favorite Sans, and my first ever character to have a fangirl crush on, and I'm so happy to create a masterpiece with him involved. I want to give a huge thank-you to all of my followers and friends, including morrow, BabyFish, KizeahArtz, spirit_the_demon, TheUndyingRose, BallOfFlyingFur, morrow-, -starshower-, and SO MANY MORE amazing people who have supported me through everything I've gone through. Please stay tuned for more books like this one and many, many more!
