I run through the door to my mom. I feel her wrist for a pulse, then her neck.
"Alex we have to go to the hospital," I say. I notice a puddle of blood on the floor, then a stab wound in her stomach.

I help Alex pick her up and put her in the car. I hold pressure over her stomach. "Mom please..."

We finally arrive at the hospital. Alex runs in and gets some doctors and they come out and take my mom inside.

I'm shaking, crying, bloody. Alex holds me despite the blood covering my clothes. He kisses my forehead.

He takes out his phone and texts the squad. I see them pull up in Angelica's car. They run to us.

"John, I'm so sorry," Angelica says.

"We all are," says Hercules.

I can't look at them. I bury my face in Alex's shoulder and he rubs my hair.

"Why don't you get cleaned up? We'll stay here, mon ami," Lafayette says.

"O-okay." I get in the passenger seat of the car and Alex drives to my house.

I go up to my room and get some clothes then go to the bathroom and start the shower.

I hear a light tap on the door. "John? Do you need anything?"

I sigh. "Will you st-stay in here?"

"I guess."

I get in the shower quickly and close the curtain. "You can come in now."

I hear the door open then close. "I'm sorry about what happened, John. I really am."

I sigh. "I know. I hope she makes it."

"Me too."

"C-can we change the subject?"

"Yes."

We start talking about other random things.

"Alex will you hand me a towel please?" I say as I turn off the water. He throws a towel over the shower curtain and I take it. I wrap the towel around me and step out of the shower. Alex blushes and looks down. He opens the door and walks out. I put on my clothes and pull my hair into a pony tail.

I walk out of the bathroom and to my bedroom. I sit in front of the mirror on the floor and pull out some makeup.

"Ugh Johnnn," Alex groans.

"What?"

"You don't need makeup."

"Yes I do. I'm ugly."

"No you're not. You're beautiful without makeup." He takes my hand and I stand up.

"No I'm not."

"Yes you are."

"Whatev-" I'm cut off by Alex roughly kissing me. I kiss back. I back up in the direction of my bed and I fall back on it. Alex kisses my neck and leaves mark. I pull his hair.

"Alex.. we've gotta go back."

He pulls away then gives me one last kiss.

We when get back to the hospital, everyone is waiting for us with a doctor. "Are you John Laurens?" the doctor says.

"Yes."

"Your mother, Eleanor, she- she didn't make it."

I feel like the world is crashing down around me. I fall into Alex and he hugs me.

What will I do now? I'm an orphan.
