Things had quickly gotten awkward between them what with her asking him if he was still hurting over their relationship and him telling her that she shouldn't misunderstand and think that they were going to get back together. Sun placed her half eaten sandwich on a plate atop the coffee table and rose from her seat. She reached into her pocket for her cellphone and turned on the flashlight function.
She made her way to the front door and Yixing's voice stopped her. "What are you doing?"
His words found a way to hit her where it really hurt, bringing back all the memories of their relationship and how she ruined it all. She was on the brink of tears as she replied to him. "I'm going back to my apartment. I think its best if we keep our distance from each other." Which was what she had originally decided, until the lights went out in her apartment.
If she wasn't going to be able to get back with Yixing, the next best thing in her opinion was to be away from him. At least then she wouldn't have to see him and by consequence see the resentment and hurt he still held towards her. Sometimes it was hard to understand why people took longer to forgive the people they loved. But as Sun thought about it, she knew the answer to it. It was harder to forgive someone one loved because it was hard to imagine that that person would ever do something to hurt them. That was what sun imagines Yixing felt and probably the reason why he was still so hurt.
"Mae--" He called out to her with a sigh in his words.
He knew he had said the wrong thing and hurt her feelings. Perhaps subconsciously he was hoping to make her feel the same pain that he did, though he immediately regretted it.
"I'll be fine." She assured, and opened the door, stepping out into the dark hallway.
She went across the hall to her apartment and remembered that she forgot her keys inside in her panic to find out why the lights were out. Another thought soon crossed her mind that when she left with Yixing, she never locked her apartment and there was a possibility that it was still open.
Yixing didn't follow her, which was both a relief and something sad for her. She wanted him to follow her, she wanted to talk things out with him and for him to forgive her. It had been several months already since their break up and she still loved him. She thought to herself that if he was still hung up over what happened between them, that maybe there was still hope. Maybe he still loved her too. But she was relieved that he didn't follow because in that very moment she felt like she wouldn't be able to look at him for more than a second without bursting into tears.
With her phone in hand and it turned on to the flashlight function, she shut the door behind herself and immediately made her way to the bedroom. Even that was fully furnished and there was a neatly made king sized bed waiting for her to sleep in it.
She felt as small as an ant as her slender body crawled onto the bed and under the covers.
Sun turned off her phone light, only when she got an incoming face time call from Aron and the dim light from her screen provided her with enough light to calm her fears of the dark. She hit the answer button and immediately she saw Aron on the screen. He was in his dorm with group mate Dongho waving a hello at her in the background.
The first thing Aron did, even before greeting her, was to blink back in the darkness of his screen as he tried to make out her face. "What are you doing in the dark, haebit?" He had recently taken to calling her haebit now that they were friends and had gotten closer with each other. It was the Korean word for sunshine, and since he was American, he had a slight accent when speaking. That meant that haebit ended sounding a bit like hobbit when he called her by her new nickname.
But he meant it in the most endearing way. He quickly became like an older brother to her.
Sun heaved a sigh and began to explain her current situation. "It just so happens that the apartment building where I'm staying is shutting the power out in the afternoons this week because the power company is fixing the power lines outside." She soon added dramatically, "And you won't believe what else happened. My co-lead for this new movie is none other than my ex who hates me now--Zhang Yixing."
"I heard." He said, crinkling up his nose in a sign of sympathy. "That's why I called. How are you holding up?"
"Well he basically told me again that we're never getting back together." She informed him with another sigh. She was surprised that she was able to keep up a brave front with Aron since all she wanted to do the moment she entered the apartment was to roll up into a ball of self pity and cry herself to sleep.
"Ouch." He said.
"How are things with Allisson?" Sun decided to change the subject.
Just like she was still hung up on Yixing, she knew that Aron was still just as hung up on his Allisson. And he was probably on the same boat as her when it came to inner pain after having lost someone they loved so much.
He gave a small shrug. "We still talk from time to time, but we're both busy. And she's still dating that German guitar player." He said the last sentence with a clear sign of bitterness.
Sun remembered when they saw Allisson at the Univision press building and Aron practically begged for the chance to talk to her. She informed him that she had a boyfriend, and Aron later told Sun all about it. He was a German guitarist who had gotten his doctorate in classical Spanish guitar, even though he was only twenty six years old. He was working at a university near the place where she worked and they met when she was covering a Mexican national team game in Germany.
"When I return to Korea, the first thing we have to do is watch movies in our pajamas and eat icecream until we barf." She made a proposition to him that was very tempting.
But he pointed out the one flaw in it. "Your schedules are super busy this year. How are you gonna manage to spend time with us mere mortals?" He cracked a teasing smile and Sun smiled back at him, sticking her tongue out.
"I'll find a way, oppa." She assured him.
Aron had his fair share of schedules to fulfill, but it was true that every company had their favorites. In SM it was currently EXO, in Pledis they put all their attention on Baby Lips because they were their most popular and best selling group. Aron knew that once their newest group debuted in a few months time, he and his group mates would probably be getting even less opportunities. They would be the forgotten group of Pledis Entertainment.
Sun's phone beeped, letting her know on her screen that she was down to twenty percent.
"I have to go, Aron." She said into her phone with a quick goodbye. "My phone is dying and I want to save the little battery it has left in case of an emergency."
He nodded in understanding. "Yeah. I'll see you soon haebit."
The video call soon ended and Sun pulled the covers over her face, frightened. She couldn't see anything in the dark of her room and she didn't want to turn her flashlight anymore, to save her phone's energy. She mentally scolded herself for having left Yixing's apartment without one of his flashlights. Then she remembered those probably came with the apartment and that there were probably some in her kitchen cabinets.
But she didn't want to get out of bed to go check.
Instead she closed her eyes tight and tried to force herself to drift off into sleep. She felt like she had been trying for hours when she heard the doorknob on her front door twist and a slight creaking sound as the door opened.
Sun's breath caught in her throat as she assumed the worst. It was probably coming to kill her or kidnap her. There were footsteps heard in her living room and then they got closer as the person walked down the hallway to the bedroom. Sun stuck her hand out of the blanket and reached for any blunt object on her nightstand. There was an alarm clock, but she was unable to grab it because of the long cable that was connected to the outlet behind the piece of furniture. The only other thing she was able to grab was a chordless phone in its charging station.
She waited for her attacker under the covers and then she slowly heard the bedroom door open.
"Get away from me, murderer! My boyfriend is here and he has a gun!" She shrieked at the top of her lungs and tossed the chordless phone at them with all her strength.
There was a loud thud heard as the phone hit them and then another thud as her attacker fell to the floor. "Mae," He hissed from the ground, his hand rubbing the soreness on his face. She had hit him in the forehead and he wasn't sure in the darkness, but he thought he felt blood. "Its Yixing. I came to check and see if you were okay."
Sun pushed the covers off herself and used the flashlight on her cellphone to illuminate the room. Just as he said, it was Yixing on the ground and he had a small gash on his forehead that was bleeding.
She let out a gasp and jumped out of bed to help him. She quickly got on her hands and knees and crawled to his side. "For the love of God, Yixing. I've told you so many times not to sneak up on me. Do you not learn?"
It was precisely because of this that she constantly warned him never to sneak up on her. She knew killer moves, as she liked to call them, and was not afraid to use them in a moment of danger. But Yixing never listened to her and it had led to more than a few injuries.
He brought his palm up to his forehead to stop the bleeding and he continued, "I didn't want to wake you if you were sleeping, and your front door was open so I let myself in."
She grabbed his wrist to pull his hand away from his forehead and used the flashlight to assess the damage. "It doesn't look like its that bad." She told him. Then she used her fingers to prod gently at the raw skin surrounding the open wound. There wasn't a lot of blood coming from it, otherwise she'd have rushed him out to a hospital. "Does it hurt a lot?"
Yixing gave a shake of his head. "Not really. I think it was more of the impact that startled me."
Sun got back on her feet and grabbed him by the arm to help him up. "Lie down--but do not fall asleep." She warned him. "I'm going to look for some bandages, and I'm going to look for my rechargeable phone case so we can watch a movie or something to keep you awake. You might have a concussion."
He silently did as he was told and watched her disappear down the hallway. Sun had completely forgotten about her fear of the dark and was more focused on her fear that she had hurt Yixing. She always worried whenever he did things that were considered dangerous in variety and game shows or whenever she would hear that he was injured. Other than him having a back injury that often came and went, he also had hemophilia--a disease where the blood had a harder time clotting. That meant that any little cut could be something potentially dangerous for him.
But when they were together, she learned how to care for him properly and could do it in her sleep.
She found a first aid kit in the kitchen and a set of flashlights that had been left in case of an emergency. She turned her phone light off and stuffed it into her pocket now that she had another flashlight to use.
She went to her luggage next and rummaged through it until she found her rechargeable phone case. She hurried with it and the first aid kit to the room where Yixing was waiting.
Sun hurried over to the bed and dropped the first aid kit on it, opening it to reveal everything she needed to clean his wound. She handed him the flashlight and asked him to hold it with the light pointing towards his face. He squinted his eyes against the bright lights and Sun got to work. She cleaned the wound and disinfected it, then she put a bandage over it and tied a gauge around his head to put pressure on the wound to stop the blood from coming out.
When she was done, Yixing thanked her. Then she got her cellphone out and put the phone case on it to charge it while they watched something to keep him awake.
They ended up watching movies on her phone until the power came back on.
