how to face: 'quality' art tutorial
I saw LYNSPIRE make a tutorial (please go read her stuff if you haven't yet, it's amazing and so is her art!) and thought - let's do that but for how I usually draw~!
{ Note : do not expect quality. This is how my crappy skills work and I'm bad at explaining. }
1; make really rough outline of face
dunno what to say other than use the curve/circle tool and add an extended curve at the end?
if you're not going for very animu guys then I suggest not making the chin come to a literal point, or else you're going to wind up with some Gakuen Handsome character.
(yes this is official artwork. look at the redhead's neck where it meets the...jaw? chin? i-i dunno, around that area - do you see that lineart break im CACKLIN g) 11/10 would recommend watching
However, since I'm drawing a smol girl I avoid this like the plague.
2; add features
Usually for more feminine or younger character you'd make the eyebrows smaller and thinner, but I like thicc eyebrows so that's what she shall have.
The eyes are pretty anime-esque but not much else. cx currently undergoing art fluctuations so trust me, if you're confused at this mismatch of styles, so am i--
3; give hair (or not, bald's chill too)
I also cleaned up the face a bit and added neck.
And that's actually it for the lining. Now, you're probably wondering why it looks like garbage, and to that I have two (2) things to say in response: 1 - because my hands are shaky and I'm trash at clean lineart; 2 - because I don't actually rely too much on lines and will wind up painting over them. Let's go with number 2 here. cx
4; add flats and test colors
I usually go with three colors per section - base, shadow, and light. This is to get an overall feel of how the colors look together, so that way if something looks really off to you, you're able to fix it early on.
Yes, it is indeed supposed to look terrifying.
5; begin painting and blending
Add in basic areas of shade. This part is one of my favorites, I find it really relaxing uwu
6; deepen shades and lower lineart opacity
Adding the purples = best part of painting. Yes I'm very biased.
7; reinforce hard edges
Basically, outline areas that you want to clearly divide. For me it's usually the eyes, nostrils, and lips.
8; eye
Fix up them eyes
9; highlights and blush
And bam you're done
Shh - shh ignore the hair. That's for another day.
Now you have a face c:
