Thank you, Mother
After a hearty dinner Cynth instructed me to get as much sleep as I could, we would be attacking at midnight. I of course wouldn't be of much help as Sheila had been too busy to teach me how to throw knives, not that I think I would've been good at it. My main task was to help operate the traps as Cynth had taught me earlier. It was an easy task that was given to the inexperienced fighters but at least I could help.
I tried to get as much sleep as I could but my mind couldn't stop thinking about the absurdity of the situation. I was helping a rebel army attack a military camp to annoy an evil wolf king with my best friend who happens to be a dragon and a long lost princess while in a land that I've been in for less than three days. Wow. After a while though I slipped into a restless slumber.
"Wake up Ashlyn," a familiar voice said. I opened my eyes and almost screamed. I was floating cross-legged and all around me was nothing but blue like the endless blue of the golden door that we entered. Opposite me I saw who spoke. She had blonde hair like mine in a complex braid and she was wearing a tribal-looking dress. Her eyes snapped open to reveal a beautiful brown that reminded me of the warmth of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. It was comforting and familiar. That's when I realized that she looked exactly like me with brown eyes.
"Who-who are you?" I asked in confusion. The woman smiled.
"You know the answer to that question,"she replied.
"Mo-mother?" I asked through teary eyes.
The woman beamed and nodded. "I-I thought you were dead." I said.
She nodded and said, " My body is but my spirit is forever in Jiang."
"Jiang?" I asked.
"It is everything and nothing it is the world but it is not," she explained. Ok, so much for understanding, I thought.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"I'm here to tell you that the key to stopping Channe is the necklace I gave you. You will know how to use it when the time comes. I wish you the best of luck. Goodbye Ashlyn. I'm proud of you."
"Goodbye!" I said as she disappeared.
I woke up and sat up in my bed. I held my necklace in both hands and whispered, "Thank you, Mother." The word was unfamiliar in my mouth but saying it brought some comfort. I payed no heed to the tears flowing down my cheeks.
