Gods, what a coward

After an hour or so of riding on horseback, we finally got to the camp. Most of the inexperienced fighters like me stayed behind to check if any of the soldiers had been caught by our traps. We were supposed to take them prisoner and set up the traps correctly again. Everyone was given a map of where the traps were hidden so we could avoid getting trapped ourselves and so we knew where to check first.

I was busy looking at the map and ran into a young girl. "Ow!" she clutched her head in pain.

"I'm so so so sorry! I'm a bit clumsy, are you alright?" I apologized.

"I'm ok, my name's Kit." she smiled at me.

"Hi Kit, I'm Ashlyn, I'm kinda new here." I return the cheerful smile.

She giggled and replied, "I kinda knew that already, everybody's talking about how the warrior Rebels rushed to a cave expecting to battle a monster to instead find two teenage girls and a Matagot. Well technically one of them was a teenage dragon, but she's friendly, right?"

I grinned at how talkative she was. Was I like that when I was younger? "Yeah of course Aine is friendly! By the way how old are you? Aren't you a little young to be a rebel?" I asked.

Her mood seemed to dim as she answered, "I'm seven, and yeah, I'm young for a rebel but all I have left are the Celestial Rebels. My parents were executed for being against him."

I had no doubt that by him, she was referring to the Evil Wolf King. I was quite surprised at the amounts of venom a seven year old could put in one word.

"Um, so how did the Rebels know where we were?" I ask, desperately trying to change the subject.

Some of the hate dissipated from her curious brown eyes. "Uh, I dunno how exactly but Cynth mentioned something about a sudden shift in the magical aura of the area."

I nodded and we went our separate ways to try and find some prisoners. I walked towards a place where my map said there was a pit covered with leaves to disguise it. I looked down to where it should be located, sure enough, there was a pit in front of me. It was, however not covered in leaves and contained one scared looking guy in armor that had a wolf skull symbol on the chest plate. I guess that's what the Evil Wolf King's soldier's armor looked like. Not bad.

He looked at me in a pleading way and stuttered, "Ple-please don't-don't ki-kill me Re-rebel!"

I smiled in a reassuring way but it only scared him more. Gods, what a coward. I sighed and said, "Don't worry I'm not supposed to kill you but you are a prisoner of the Rebels now." I toss him a rope that Astoria gave me earlier, she also gave me a dagger which is currently in my right boot. "Climb the rope so I can get you to the dungeon. If you don't want to that's fine, just stay in this hole forever. Just a warning, if you try anything I will stab you with my knife. Seeing as you're unarmed, the best choice would be to do as I say."

I wonder if I would actually be able to stab him as he climbed up the rope. I wonder if I'll have to kill someone, someday. I probably will, seeing as I landed smack in a war-torn world. I sigh as he reached the top of the pit and began hauling himself up. My life would never be normal again, whatever that word meant.
