Filming: "The Room Where It Happens"
You've heard about Andrew, Steve, The Man. But you haven't heard from the other telekinetic. Matthew Garretty, Andrew's younger, and VERY jealous cousin. For it seems, drugs make you want more, but give you even less than you've got. For Matt Garretty... he wants to be in The Room Where It Happens.
Matt approached his older cousin, eyes red and full of rage. He was tired of being nobody, he wanted whatever it was that made Andrew special. He yelled at his cousin.
"Andrew Detmer!
What did they say to you to destroy Seattle into pieces?
Andrew Detmer!
Did your great Man know? Was there pressure to deliver?
Andrew Detmer!
Or did you know it doesn't matter where you put all your power?"
Andrew looked at him, face changing into a menacing scowl. Oh really? Challenging him, saying he was just a pawn in the Man's game? He was going to set Matt straight.
"Cause we've got the Needle. We're in the same spot."
"You got more than you gave-"
"And I wanted what I GOT. When you got skin in the game, you stay in the game. But you don't get a win unless you play in the game. Oh, you get love for it, you get hate for it, you get nothing if you wait for it! Wait for it! Wait...."
A cold presence was felt between the two cousins as the Man appeared, putting his hands gently on Andrew's shoulders.
"Gods help and forgive me, I wanna build something that's gonna outlive me!"
He disappeared, but his small interference just made Andrew feel stronger.
"What do you want, Matt? What do you want? If you stand for nothing, then what do you fall for??"
Matt knew his answer, he'd always known. It was simple, ever since Andrew started getting the upper hand in life.
"I... I wanna be in the room where it happens, the room where it happens. I gotta be in the room where it happens, the room where it happens!"
Andrew wasn't surprised, he knew Matt wanted more, more power, more glory. But the madman wasn't done with his speech.
"The art of the compromise, hold your hand and close your eyes. We want our heroes to save the day, but we don't get a say in what they trade away!"
That hit Andrew hard. Yes, the Man had always been kind to Andrew, yes they were friends, yes, they trusted one another. But Matt knew what the Man did if Andrew stepped one foot out of line. He'd seen the scars on his chest when there shouldn't have been any. Andrew chalked it up to the Man helping him snap out of his blind rages, but maybe it was the wrong move to make. No matter, Andrew wouldn't let this drugged up lunatic tell him anything. He wouldn't believe it anyways.
"We dream of a brand new start, but we dream in the dark for the most part. Dark as a tomb where it happens.... I've gotta be in the room where it happens. In the room... I've gotta be... I've gotta be in the room! I've gotta be in the ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS!"
Andrew looked on in stony silence. Matt wasn't wrong, he had valid points. Andrew's dreams had come true... but at what cost? He knew Matt would never get to the room he so desperately wanted to see inside. But there was no way, no way in hell, unless... Oh yes. Unless.
"You want to be in the room?" Andrew smirked, an almost evil grin came on his face. "Alright then. Click, BOOM."
And with that, the room was plunged into total darkness. No light, no sound. Matt tried to use his powers for the lights, but they didn't work. The lights turned on a second later, and Andrew was gone. The only thing left was a black mask sitting on the floor. Matt looked at it closer, and it had a crack on the right side, like a bullet went through it. He realized immediately what Andrew was saying. Matt lost his chance to be in the room long before the room was a thing. For Matt, Matt had no control, no powers, no strength. He looked down, glaring at his right hand. There was still a hole where the bullet had gone through, and it had stopped healing when the drugs destroyed his healing capabilities. Matt could never be Andrew, the roles had reversed. Andrew was a leader, one of the big crowd, he had everything. Matt was the "social pariah", the "I don't go to parties" man, the man spending his life afraid of being to hurt when in reality he was only hurting himself.
So it seems he had two choices. Leave the helmet, continue on his evolved journey in pain and insanity. Or take it, and maybe he could get something. Get power, get family, get his life back.
Would Matt choose to stay outside the doors, or would he take the key to the room where it happens?
