Filming: "Maybe I Want A Barrier"
Chronicle was a movie that could be categorized as scifi, or horror, action, and definitely thriller. However the most important category was found footage, for the movie would not have been possible if not for two very special cameras. Andrew bought the first one himself, with his own money that he has scrounged up from fixing random people's computers and phones in his spare time. It was his only way to earn something since he knew he would never be able to get a real job until he got out of the hell hole he called a home and saved his mother. In a way, cameras and money were interconnected for Andrew. He loved his first camera, an old fashioned Canon from 2008 that he could carry on his shoulder like a child. The camera WAS almost his child, and he was proud to have it with him. Of course, that poor camera only made it a day, or less than a day, somehow surviving bullies but not surviving the cave, when Andrew had to drop it in order to survive. It was heartbreaking for him, something he paid for getting lost in the rubble that he and his friends accidentally caused. So he treated his second one, the one that Steve bought him, not Matt, even more carefully. He held it close most of the time, and when his powers kicked in, he liked to fly it around him. How close the camera was to him represented who he was around, it was farther away with Steve and Matt, and literally tucked under his arms when around bullies. It was a miracle to never got destroyed, not until the explosion. Andrew saw it combust before his eyes as he was thrown back by the blast, seeing everything he loved, his whole recorded life, burst into real live flames. When he was at the Space Needle and saw all those cameras shining in the night, he couldn't resist, breaking the class and taking them all, flying them defensively in a circle, shielding himself from Matt. These things, they held so much power, and Andrew was aware of that power. He loved it. After he was resurrected, the first thing he asked for besides to kill his father and take revenge was to have his old camera back. It was like Christmas morning seeing it working, seeing it ALIVE again, and he could feel the familiar telekinetic connection with it growing stronger and becoming more than before. That was when he created his Unseeable Rule, that no one else could look at it, it was his and only his. He got looks when he walked around with it flying close to him, but in contrast he also got people smiling at it, saying hi and waving to no one except for Andrew and his connected technology. Andrew always felt better when no one mentioned it, or when it was brought up positively. When asked to turn it off, he simply floated it into his lap and kept filming, a dead giveaway that he was done with the insults, done with the hiding. The most common misconception is that filming everything didn't mean EVERYTHING. He turned it off in the bathroom, as well as lots of nights where the Man read way too inappropriate fanfiction and Andrew was nestled into his shoulder, complaining through it all. At nights, the red light actually helped everyone sleep better, for it was like a guardian. It was a barrier, a barrier between life and death, hunter and hunted, family and foes, and most importantly, forced decisions and free will. Andrew has been asked several times if his camera has a name, and he has unfortunately had to tell every questioner that no, the camera was simply known as Camera, but he did love to call it his loyal Sidekick.
