Watching Her
Akemi was the very first grandkid of Mao family, the son of Brunhilde. He was five years old. He was a black kitten with a tuff of hair with blue highlights. Just like with his father Atlas, beside the peachy color. He wore a blue vest despite it being a little too big for himself, though he fell in love with it and refused to take it off. He was just like his parents, a happy kid. Well that was the case until a certain kitten appeared in his life. Now he was wondering why she came along, wanting to get rid of her.
Instead of just enjoying the serenity of the blissfully nature of the backyard, he had to watch his new baby sister Aura. He looked over the crib, eyeing the giggling kitten with an annoying glare. Aura was also a black kitten like him but she had peach color paws, ears, and hair. Even the very tip her little tail had a bit peach fur. She was looking at him with a smile that hadn't a care of the world.
All that really did was bore Akemi more. He wanted to play outside and be the kid he was, though his father was making dinner and his mother was in a mission with his aunt Hinata. Which only left little ol' him, to watch the "sweet little baby". How was that fair? Why did he have to give up his play time to watch someone who couldn't do anything without crying for attention?
Akemi still remember when his mother brought Aura home. After all it was only two weeks ago. He remember how his parents looked so happy as they held the small carrier back home. Atlas smiled as he held the baby in his arms, Brunhilde looked tired yet was staying strong for the child in her dear Atlas's arms. Akemi look in the carrier and saw the small kitten sleeping inside, he smiled at her. Knowing deep down that he had become a protector like his dad was.
The memory really made him think. It was true that Aura being here had changed things for him. His dad spends more time with the baby, which really made him upset. Atlas was his father first, he should have time with him first. Brunhilde would sing Aura luballies that she would sing every night, where he would be lucky to get one nowadays. He wanted to be the one to hang out with his father, to train to be a knight hero like him. He wanted to hear his mother sweet voice to soothe him to the land of dreams. It really made him feel like he was replaced by Aura.
Well that was one way that he could think of it. So he decided to go down the positive road like his father taught him to do whenever he was sad. Even in the most darkest days, his father encouraged to think a positive thought to help get through it and put a smile back on his face.
Aura may get a lot of attention now but that is because she needed it. She deserved a wonderful mother that sing sweet songs and have her all the love she had. Aura has a great defender, her father Atlas to keep her safe and help her become an amazing hero through his teachings. As for her grandfather, Shin Mao....Well let's keep him away from her till Akemi could properly wield a weapon. Akemi blinked at that thought.
Why did he suddenly want to protect Aura?
He thought about it a few more times till he remembered what his father told him the very day Aura was brought home.
"Now son, though things may change now that Aura is here but it doesn't mean we love you any less. In fact, as her big brother you are now her protector. Aura will need your guidance just as much as she'll need ours. She may get you angry every now and then but forgive her because I know you two will share a strong bond. So please watch over her, Akemi" The memory of his father ruffling up his hair, helped him see what those negative though blinded him from.
He looked back at Aura who was now taking her nap, and scooped her up in his little paws being very careful not to drop her. He brought her close to his forehead and nuzzled her.
"Aura, I will always be your knight and watch over ya! After all I am gonna be a great knight hero. Why not add the most greatest big brother to the list as well" He smiled liking the title already, all the dislike for the little kitten vanished.
Atlas watched from the doorway with a smile on his face. That was his son alright, he would make a fine hero though he was already a great big brother. He was proud of his son for not doing what he say like it was something he needed to do, but instead as something that he wanted to do.
It is true that when a newborn enter a home with a child that is used to getting attention, having to now share that attention is tough. Though it may take a while, the two may forge a strong bond as long as they do not allow negative thoughts or actions hold anything between them. Sure it is hard, though it is harder to build a bond without looking at the positive things. So instead of thinking that the little one is taking love away from a child, consider it as gaining a friend that will last a life time.
