After returning home from the journeys for a short break, the Mao Kittens each get an invitation to meet their grandfather Shin Mao at the Mao family household. In each note it says that each child will be tested in a pokemon battle to see how their journey have strengthened them. Everyone prepared their teams since they knew Shin Mao would not go easy on them. The perfect stragety along was some quick thinking would be the key to victory in this test. Little did they know that it wouldn't just be the grandfather they will be facing in battle, but the entire Mao family as well. Parents verus their children. A test to see how much they learn in a few months they've been out on their journey. This trial wouldn't come without a few surprises.

Akemi was the first to arrive thanks to Jarvia, his Corviknight flying him there. He kept Knight his Chespin in his pokeball for now. He thanked Jarvia before returning her pokeball. He was greeted by his grandfather Shin Mao before the two went inside.

"Early today . You must be eager for the trial" Shin Mao poured the two of them some tea.

"Yeah, I like to show what my journey has taught me. To allow you to witness the bond I share with my pokemon. I also like to learn from our battle together to see what more I need to learn" Akemi spoke, taking a long sip of tea.

One of Akemi pokeballs opens and Akemi's Aracanine came out. The large dog looked around before looking at Shin Mao. Acel got super excited and tackled hugged him to the ground which nearly knocked him out of his golden armor.

"Ah, I see Acel has evolved...Now Acel, will you please get off me" Shin Mao instead got a barriage of tongue kisses. "Akemi, get Acel off of me!" He ordered

Akemi couldn't help but laugh a bit before returning Acel to his pokeball. "Sorry, Grandfather"

"It's alright, even as a Growlithe Acel been like this. He has certainly gotten stronger. You've certainly have raised him well. I look forward to seeing them battle" Shin Mao got up and smile proudly at his eldest grandson.

"As do I" Akemi shared the same excited look in his eyes

Aura arrived and her grandmother let her in. They waited in the living room while Shin Mao prepared the battle room. Aura let her Skitty, Aiko and her Teddiura, Marcy meet her grandmother.

"Oh, what adorable pokemon!" She petted Aiko head with one hand and held Marcy with the other. "Oh I saw their performance at the Snowite contest, that combination of Shock Wave and Shadow Claw during the battle round was simply amazing!" She praised, proud of her grand daughter.

"Yeah that was our sixteenth win. Has grandpa seen my contests?" Aura asked, hopeful that her grandfather always witnessed her skills.

Mrs. Mao sighed a bit before answering "He has only seen a few. He isn't a fan of contests quite yet"

Aura sighed as well. More of a reason to make her grandfather see otherwise.

"I'll show him how much strongercontests have made me" Aura spoke confidently

"Ursa! Nya!" Both Marcy and Aiko were also confident that they would win against Shin Mao.

Buster flew to his grandparents house, nervous at how his grandparents would react to his team. Especially about Precious, his Togepi. The baby fairy pokemon nestled in his arms in a deep sleep. Shin Mao would be disappointed in him. Well more like laugh at him along with a lifetime of teasing. Also his grandmother would try to take Precious from him due to her adorableness.

He landed in front of the Mao clan home.. The minute he opened the door is when Precious awoke and jumped from his arms, as she goes to explore this new place. Buster followed closely to watch over the little one. However Precious was picked up by the last person Buster wanted to know about her. Shin Mao.

"This little cutie must be one of the girls pokemon" Shin Mao chuckles

"Actually Precious is my pokemon. You can laugh at me if you want" He looked away before being surprised by a paw on his shoulder.

"I'll admit, you having a Togepi is unexpected and very funny. However I learned never to judge others pokemon. If you have one then this little one must be very powerful" He gently pets Precious head "Aren't you, you little one?" He cooed

Precious giggled and uses Psychic to lift Shin Mao in the air.

"Ha! I knew she was powerful!" He laughed before Precious lets him back down. " I'm gonna bet that she's one of your most powerful pokemon"

"Yeah, I still want to be a powerful Dragon Master like my father. Though havinhaving non Dragon pokemon helps me remember I am also a member of the Mao clan" Buster smiles softly as he picked up Precious into his arms.

"Well said! However if your grandmother sees her, she may try to keep this little one" Shin Mao nervously admits, knowingknowing his wife has a love for cute baby pokemon

"Yeah, I kind of know that. Grandmother is very scary" Buster shivered slightly

Mrs.Mao entered the room and the moment she saw Precious, she scooped the little pokemon into her arms and showers the Togepi in kisses.

"Why does everyone try to take Precious?! First my mother, the two farmers on the way here, a rival Dragon Master who loves Togepi, and now grandmother?!" Buster groaned before facepalming.

Meanwhile, Chiyo and Bakula entered to see their grandfather comforting Buster while their grandma cuddled with Buster's Togepi. Didn't take them long to figure out what happen. They greeted their grandparents respectfully before joining Akemi and Aura in the living room.

"Looks like Grandma met Precious" Bakula sat at the couch. Aiko curled up on her lap. "Hey Aiko" She scratched the Skitty by the ears.

"Nya!" She purrs

"How have you two been?" Chiyo asked her cousins.

"Really good! So far I won 22 battles before coming here. Only 78 more battles till I become the most powerful trainer in the Mao clan" He smiled proudly

"I won 16 ribbons but I still haven't won a single Grand Festival" Aura smiles with a bit of sadness is seen in her eyes.

"I'm sure you'll win the next one sis!" Akemi encouragement immediately wiped away that sadness for the time being.

"How have you two been?" Aura asked

"The bakery has been good and thanks to my Tomato Berry Bagel Poppers, sales haven't been higher" Chiyo smiled, passing out some samples she brought with her.

"I'm fine" Which it was all that Bakula could really say due to the secrecy of her job. " I'm glad to be on break though"

The others couldn't agree more.

"So how long will Carmine, Euno, and Fabron take?" Buster asked, joining them on the couch. Finally getting Precious back in his arms. "They didn't get lost again right?" He asked, despite already knowing the answer.

Carmine was flying on his Honchrow, Rebel with his little brother Fabron. They were currently in their way to their grandparents after Euno got them lost for a whole hour. Thank goodness thar Rebel evolved yesterday otherwise they be lost longer. Euno rode on his Ninetales Mira throughout the forest.

"We're nearly there" Carmine could see the house come into view

"There it is" Euno could see the view from the ground. Mira sprints the rest of the way there.

Surprisingly all three of them arrived at the same time. Both young trainers returned theirpokemon before entering.

"Look who finally showed up" Amemi teased before ruffling up his hair

"This one got us lost in a forest filled with Beedrills" Carmine glared at Euno while fixing his hair

On cue, Akemi handed Buster ten bucks. Well it was Akemi fault for makin the bet in the first place. As a plus for Precious. He got some Honor pokepuffs as well.

"So is the trial going to be battles first or team evaluations then battle?" Euno asked

"He seems to want to see our teams first then prepare our battles from our team evaluations. Though I don't think the goal is to beat grandpa but rather to observe how we handle these trials" Aura explained as she already was forming strageties for her trial.

"Good thing we prepared for it" Akemi smirks proudly

All the kittens shard the same proud look. They were all ready to best their trials! Even the youngest members! Battle time!

The Mao family Battle Area was huge like the pokemon league itself. Generations upon generations of Mao clan members have battled there pokemon here since the first ever Mao clan trainer. Now it would be time for the teams to be evaluated before they faced Shin Mao in battle. As always it went from eldest to youngest. So Akemi would be first and Euno last. Fabron and Lynelle were excused since they were asleep for naptime.

"Akemi Mao, Present your team" Shin Mao ordered

Akemi nodded before letting out his entire party. His team was currently: His partner, Knight the Chespin. His Corviknight Jarvia. Acel, his Aracanine who vreeted everyone with tackle hugs and tongue kisses. His last three pokemon were new to everyone since this was the first timeanyone saw them. An Electivire who seemed really tough in looks and power. A Crustle whose defense was like a steel wall and could hit back much harder. Finally an Abomasnow who wore a megastone chestplate. Abomasnow were already tough on their own but their mega forms were monsters to defeat.

"Your pokemon have been raised well, Akemi. I expect as much from my grandson. Despite your Chespin not being evolved, it is clear that he is stronger than any Chespin that I've encountered. Acel is strong as well though I think he needs to be taught to stay still. Your Corviknight looks as skilled in agility. I must say your Electivire is quite a powerful pokemon by the looks of it. I can tell he is much more powerful. Your Crustle is a great defensive wall, I see it is also a hard hitter in battle as well. Smart choice. As for Abomasnow, I'll admit that I've never expected you to have one. This is quite surprising. Even more so that two of you share a strong bond to mega evolve. Your team is of very powerful battlers" Shin Mao spoke to Akemi, he was very proud of how far his grandson has come. He then turned his attention to Aura. "Aura, Present your team"

Aura let her pokemon out in a dance like fashion. " Performance time,everyone!"

Each of her pokemon had contest seals which Shin Mao found a bit overdramatic. First to come out was Aiko the Skitty wose seal was hearts. Next was Marcy, her Teddiursa that appearedin floral petals. Her Marill, Azul shines with the popped bubbles of the bubbles seal. The little one blow bubbles for Marcy and Aiko for fun. Appearing among several musical notes was Bellossom named Bon Bon. Her Dedenne Chibi came out from the Electric Seal before going to Aura's shoulder. Finally out from the smoke seal emerged Arthur, Aura'a Aggron. Which left Shin Mao speechless. Even more once he noticed their matching key stone and mega stone bracelets.

"You have an Aggron that can mega evolve?!" It wouldyake quiquite some time before he could fully process that.

"Yeah, me and Arthur have been through alot together, right?" Aura turns to the Aggron as he nodded in agreement.

"I-I see" Shin Mao quickly tried to calm himself as he resumed the evalute the rest of her team. "Aiko looks cute as ever, you've been taking excellent care of her. Marcy's adorable looks is the perfect mask to conceal her fighting abilities. Azul is quite agile and doesn't hesitate from how it uses moves. She has perfect power control of moves so far. I see that Bon Bon dances like all Bellossom and I would believed you incorporate that in her battle style. I assume that Chibi is the newest member since he is very shy around others, yet he is very comfortable around you. Though in time, he'll be a great battler for contests or whatever. I'm still very speechlesson the fact that you have an Aggron. From looking at both of you, I can see the incredible bomd you share" Shin Mao petted Aiko head while giving Aura a warm and proud smile.

Aura was happy and was thrilled how her team was evaluated. Chibi nuzzle her cheek in shared happiness.

Shin Mao turned to Buster. He gestured for him to put Precious down. "Buster, please present your team" He ordered

Precious got excited as Buster let out the rest of his pokemon party. Adonica, hhis Quilava instantly went to Precious and nuzzled her head softly. The next one and to everyone shock was Hera. Now as a Dragonite. Finally she had reached her final evolution. The next dragon pokemon was Errier, a Druddigon that had a scar on it's left wing. It was certain that it had faved many before becoming a member of Buster's team. Aevnass was a lay back Kommo-o that laid down on the floor the moment he was let out. Right now, Aevnass was now snoring that nearly activated his Boomburst move. The final pokemon on Buster's team was a...a...an Igglybuff named Odele.

"Aww!" Mrs.Mao wasted no time in showering the baby pokemon with love and kisses

"Grandmother, please release Odele till the evaluation is over" Buster sighed

"Aw. May I please hold her a little longer?" Mrs.Mao just wanted to hold Odele and Precious while showering them in kisses

"Fine..." Buster just gave up. Thankfully he left his Mime Jr., Ayita in the portable PC that Badgerclops made them after they all visited Pure Heart Valley.

"Thank you, my draconic warrior" Mrs.Mao smiles before going back to cuddling the baby pokemon

Buster turned to Shin Mao. His eyes were practically pleading for him to get the evaluation over with. Then take his Precious and Odele back!!

"Hera has finally bevome a Dragonite I see, it is thanks to the care you gave. It's hard to believe that she was once that shy Dratini I gave you. Adonica is an excellent fire pokemon to have. Quilava are quite agile and their fire moves are known to rival even the most. She may be a match for my Charizard. It's clear that even before you encountered him, Errier has been in many battles. I'm sure he is a powerful battler. Your Kommo-o seems to be quite lazy...., I can only hope that he's a better fighter than a better napper. As for these two" Shin Mao turns to Precious and Odele and pets their heads. "These little cutepies are adorable. They are lucky to have a trainer like you!" He cooed as he tickled their chins, he adored their cuteness as much as Mrs.Mao.

Buster nodded before returning Precious and Odele into their pokeballs. His grandmother was sadden which lef to Buster letting Precious and Odele back out.

"Thank you, sweetie" Mrs. Mao kissed Buster head

"Just don't try to take them, ok? They really mean alot to me" Buster's golden eyes pleaded which rarely happened.

"I promise. Though if you ever need to have them watched, I personal volunteer" Mrs. Mao took the little ones to the kitchen for some cookies.

Shin Mao was proud that Buster allowed his grandmother to love and care for his baby pokemon. Well no one can really stop anyone from falling in love with an adorable baby pokemon. Shin Mao then turned his attention to his python cat hybrid granddaughter. He didn't know of her jobjob profession yet he did know his granddaughter.

"Bakula,please present your team" He ordered with his tone was a tab softer than before. Concern maybe?

Bakula threw six pokeballs in the ait unlike how she usually did to keep her job a secret. As soon as he was let out, Venom her Arbok glared at Arthur as if he were challenging him to a battle of wits later. The next pokemon was an Espurr and a young one by the looks of it. Bakula's Espurr was a girl named Keiko. Keiko was picked up by Bakula and placed on her shoulder. Next to come out was King, an overconfident Prinpulp which seemed to want to show his superiority and how worthy he is to his name. Mitsuki the Seviper stayed to herself. She tried to keep to herself which made the others curious. The next pokemon wore a bright yellow bow and her sharp teeth really spook the others. Anzu was a very powerful Mawile and her looks aside and based on how shiny her coat was. This was clear that Anzu was raised quite well. Not to mention a strong pokemon that can mega evolve. The final pokemon was a Unova Darmanitan who showed Shin Mao and the others respect by bowing before the. Thus, Bakula gavw him the name Shota.

"Do all of you have Mega evolve pokemon?" Shin Mao joked while examining Bakula team.

Expect Lynelle and Fabron, the others nodded. Which was surprisinf but not too shocking. They were Mao clan after all.

"Venom is one thsr seeks a challenge. That is what I like to see in a pokemon. Keiko is adorable awfully younf so she must have been captured recently. Quite recently I might add. King is confident, possibly more then even me. It may pass once he evolves. Your Seviper keeps to herself for what I believe to be trust issues. A pass trouble with a previous trainer. Luckily she was saved by you. A Mawile is much like you. Cute as a kitten yet as deadly as a snake, or should I say python. I know Anzu is a powerful on her own but I fear her mega evolution is much more scary. I admired that Shota is quite respected and noble enough to show respect to others" Shin Mao nodded to Bakula and her team. A gesture that they impressed him. Judging by his nod, he was really impressed.

Bakula nodded back with a small smile wore on her face.

"Chiyo, please present your team" He asked while eating a sample of a new Bluk berry scone that Chiyo made. His new personal favorite after all.

"OK! Time for Cafe Rush!" Chiyo let out her team with a pearl white smile. She giggled a lot as her entire team was let out. Boy was she excited.

Sugar, Chiyo's Lopunny ran to hug Shin Mao, she was happy to see him again. Shin Mao chuckled before she let go. The next pokemon was Ember the Raboot that leaned against the nearest wall. He wasn't really much of a social pokemon. Cream was still a hyperactive Pachirisu who went to explore the Battle arena before going back to her teammates. An Audino wearing a silky white bow that had a mega stone around her neck. Chiyo wore her keystone on a special heart shaped locket. Reselda stayed close to Ember. The two seemed really close. The next pokemon that came out was Chiyo's Talonflame Sho. From the looks of it, Sho had recently evolved. Possibly as early as yesterday. The last pokemon was a Snivy named Kiyo who went straight to Sugar. She softly glared at Shin Mao. Stuck her tongue out at him.

"Your Snivy is quite childish, isn't she? Though she is still young so she'll grow out of it. Sugar is as friendly as ever. I'm surprised that she doesn't have a mega stone yet. Your Audino, Reselda is it? She is very cute and is probably a long ranged fighter. Cream seems to be the same. Not much of a battler, rather a test taster from what I can tell by the crumbs on her face. Ember likes to keep to himself and is as stealthy as always. Yet he seems to be slowly opening up to others. Kiyo may need much more training to try not to be so childish. May do her some good. Sho despite recently being evolve, still is fairly young. Though with the proper training....Sho will be great in aerial battles. Though your team looks very good" He smiled and booped her nose. "You did well, Chiyo" Shin Mao smiled before moving on to Carmine.

"Carmine, please present your team" Shin Mao ordered. He was a bit scared of what pokemon Caemine had.

Carmine leviated his pokeballs in the air and allowed his pokemon to come out. A Litwick was close to Carmine. His partner Hex. She looks very closed to evolving too. Hex seem to spook the other pokemon, especially Kiyo who shook greatly after meeting Hex. The next was his Honchrow Rebel. Euno kept his word on the Dusk stones and he put them to good use. Rebel glare had gotten more menacing ever since he evolved and send shivers to everyone's spines. The next pokemon appeared behind Aura which made her jump into Arthur arms. It was a Banettw who Carmine called Sombra. She wore a black skull collar in the center was a mega stone. It matched Carmine ring. The next pokemon was a fearsome looking Tyranitar who wore a black metal chestplate with a mega stone. He let out a loud thunderous roar that echoed throughout the room. His name was Terr. Shyama was Carmine's Sableye. She had a ruby red headband which contained a mega stone in the center. She appeared to be extremely shy due to her Bashful nature. Finally the last and youngest member of Carmine team. Clementine the Cleffa who Mrs. Mao scooped up to join the other baby pokemon in the kitchen for some warm cookies.

"Three Megas?! Carmine that's....that's incredible!! You are a good trainer! Just like your mother! Shin Mao grinned greatly as he patted Carmine shoulder. Then he began the evaluation. "Rebel is menacing and quite powerful thanks to his evolution. His bright feathers only confirm that. Hex is doing well, she'll be a mighty scary Chandelure one day. Sombra is quite the scarier and I couldn't imagine how she must be once she mega evolved. Terr makes his opponents fear his presence before the battle haseven begun. I love to see what his mega form can do. Shyama's shyness will hinder her potential yet I believe her mega form may help that. As for that Cleffa, She's adorable. I highly doubt you let her battle. A perfect ghost and dark team with a fairy cheerleader!" Shin Mao grins more. He seemed very, very impressed.

Carmine nods. "Thanks should go to my team. I may be their trainer but they are the true winners"

His pokemon smiled at his words.

"Well said Cousin" Akemi nodded in agreement

"Indeed. You are a fine trainer, Carmine" Shin Mao patted his head before turning his attention to Euno. A small frown his face. "Alright Euno, please present your team"

Euno threw pokeballs in the air. He flashed his Ranger badge at his grandfather. His expression was priceless. Time to show him an elite ranger team.

The first to come out was a fire type Ninetales. Mira was Euno partner and her lovely fur was breathtaking in the sunlight. The next was Gothitelle, Nora had finally evolved on the way here. Evolved to protect the only person who showed her kindness. No longer a pokemon of a thief. Now she was a pokemon owned by a kind hearted ranger. In the air, Indiana,Euno's Braviary landed behind Euno and he didn't move a muscle. Well trained. The next pokemon looked like a powerful and much larger than average Krookodile named Huckleberry or Huck for short. Angelica the Absol wore a mega stone anklet which matches Euno's silver badge below his elite ranger badge. The Absol was once a crime lord's ace pokemon that Euno saved and rescued. He was granted permission to make the Absol a member of his team. Now much like Nora, Angelica was no longer a pokemon of crime. Now she was a pokemon for justice. Lastly and also taken by Mrs.Mao, a small little Pichu called Pineterry that appears to be a newly hatched pokemon. A rescue froma burning lab along with several other eggs. The other eggs have found loving homes. Euno got this little one since Angelica got attached and is a mother figire to the young Pichu. Another baby pokemon to ve showered in Mrs. Mao's love.

"Euno,you're an elite Pokemon Ranger?! But don't they have a Stylis wand....How?!" Shin Mao face held a mixture of shoch and so much confusion

Euno picked up Pinterry before explaining. " There is a trainer unit and I'm one of the top ten Rangers. I specialize in rescue and crime infiltration. I tend to help pokemon that were used in crime to help turned them into protectors. Angelica and Nora are prime examples that second chances helpand it's a chance to help redeem themselves" He handed the small Pichu to Mrs.Mao "Pinterry is still young. She can't eat any solid food yet. Some mashed oran berries and Moo milk is fine"

"I'll prepare it for this little one right away" Mrs.Mao hummed as she returned to the kitchen

"I see...." Shin Mao looked away, rubbing the back of his head. He owe Euno an apology later.

For now he would get to the evaluation.

"Mira has evolved I see. Like most Ninetales, Mira is grateful and powerful in battle. An excellent pokemon for a ranger. That Gothorita that was once your father's is now yours. She seems well and trust you with it's fullest trust from what I can tell. A Braviary is wuite a righteous and heroic pokemon. A perfect fit for a ranger team. You must have raised well from a Rufflet to be this strong and comfortable to land behing you without flinching. Huckleberry looks to be the muscle of your team yet his eyes hold the soul of a soft hearted protector. Angelica is a pokemon which is said to be pokemon that brings disaster and misery to those near it. However as an Absol, She is an exceptional battler whose abilities increase greatly as she mega evolves. A good choice. Pinterry is still quite young, though in time I know she'll be a great fighter. A good team, Ranger Euno" Shin Mao nodded, actucally acknowledging Euno as a Pokemon Ranger.

"Actually I'm Elite but Ranger Euno has a nice ring to it" Euno grinned

"All of your teams have been raised well. I even got a few shocks and surprise as well. Now each of you will face in a pokemon battle. Only three pokemon may be chosen to participate in these trials. The one who possesses the most wins will face me in a full six on six vattle. Now any questions before we begin?"Shin Mao asked

Aura raised her hand

"Yes Aura?"

"Just two. One, will Fabron and Lynelle also competiting in these trials? Who are we battling for the trials?" She looked at her youngest cousins and their pokemon before meeting eyes with her grandfather.

"One, Yes but for them it will be a one on one. Two, Your parents and uncle of course" Shin Mao pressed a secret button which opened a wall that revealed Mao Mao and his sisters. Atlas, Shun, Katsu, and Arakan were there as well.

"Mom?!"

"Dad?!"

"Uncle Mao?!"

Every kitten was shocked, practically left speechless.

"Surprised? Well I think your parents shoud also see the benefits of your journeys first hand" Shin Mao chuckled a bit.

All were silent for a few moments. Akemi was the first to break the silence.

"Alright!! I've been wanting to face Dad or Mom in a battle for a long while now! This is so awesome!! Bring it on!!" Akemi eyes lit up like a kid getting a piece of their favorite dessert.

Brunhilde smirked "I look forward to battling you son! You better bring your "A" game. I expect no less from the son of Brunhilde Mao!" Her smile grew wider. Her Chestnaught next to her and looked battled ready.

The matches were set:

First Match: Akemi vs Brunhilde

Second Match: Aura vs Atlas

Third Match: Buster vs Minori

Fourth Match: Bakula vs Yasu

Fifth Match: Chiyo vs Shun

Sixth Match: Carmine vs Hinata

Seventh Match: Euno vs Katsu

Eighth Match: Fabron vs Shiori

Nineth Match: Lynelle vs Arakan

"Is Uncle Mao here to battle?" Aura asked since all the kittens had their trials set.

"I'm actually here to be referee. Badgerclops has my team back at the valley in case there is trouble. Beside, I'm dying to see your skills in battle" Mao Mao looks at them, a sense of eagerness in his eyes.

Thus the evaluations are now over. Now the battle matches have begun. Who will succeed? Who will fail? Will Mrs. Mao ever stop showering the little ones in love. Eh, probably not.

Nine matches! Three on three pokemon battles! Parents versus their kids! Thrilling battles await in the next few hours! After all, Lynelle and Fabron are still napping. Tune in for "Trials Result, Mind Blowing Discoveries!"

"Battle with strong hearts and mind! The battle is only over when one falls! Battle true and with honor! That's the Mao clan way!!" The kittens chorus.
