Coping with Sadness

Lynelle didn't understand why or how Buster was sleeping for this long. Was he sick? She watched him as he and her other two cousins rested on their heat rocks. She would shake them to try and awake them but to no avail. Her mother tried to explain what hibernation was, though it was rather difficult to explain this her infant daughter. The confused look only confirmed that Lynelle didn't understand still. Arakan tried as well with the aid of a picture book but the little one still couldn't understand. Now as the winter still wandered the earth for it's seasonal stroll, Lynelle would spend those days waiting for her big brother figure to wake up.

While Mao Mao visited his mother and father, he couldn't help but notice how sad Lynelle was. He tried to make her smile and offer her favorite chocolate chip cookies. To his shock, the little kitten rejected them. She never rejected cookies ever! He knew that she missed Buster so much but this is not what he expected. There were still five more weeks until his nephews and niece would awaken from their hibernation. There had to be some way to keep Lynelle happy until that day came. As a hero, it is his duty to make sure his adorable niece is happy so that she can be a happy hero in the future.

He went to the hibernation room to see Lynelle near Buster heat rock. She was mewing in sorrow like tone as she softly shook Buster to try to wake him up. Mao Mao watch this heart aching scene but he knew what he had to do next would be even harder. He went over to Lynelle and picked her up before taking her out of the room, then he locked the door so she couldn't go back in.

"I'm sorry,my little angelic hero. Buster needs to hibernate to keep himself healthy. Bakula and Fabron do as well. I know you miss him and waiting for him to wake up will cause you to miss the beauty of winter. So until he wakes up...." He paused before forcing the words to come out. " This door will remain closed"

Lynelle mew in protest as she pounded on the large metal door with all her strength, sadly no matter how hard she tried she couldn't open it. After a while she laid on the floor to son loudly.

Mao Mao sighed at this. It was a tough decision but it has to be done. He picked Lynelle up once more and took her to her crib. He knew that Buster would read her books whenever it was story time or to cheer her up. He combed through the book shelf to find one that would bring a smile back on Lynelle face. He finally found a book from his father collection.

The book was about the Scale Tribe. The book told about the different varieties of dragons that lived there as well as how the each had a role that help the tribe. There were details on how their scale colors had meanings and how they received their roles. It also had histories about how the tribe came to be, how they learned how to create weapons as well as fight. Even now they hatch the hatching every year in the village. Even a few stories about Dragon warriors and the adventures they went on. Mao Mao held the silver covered book with curiosity in mind. Maybe this would bring a smile on Lynelle face. He flipped through the book to find a good tale, finding one that would surely help return her bright sunny smile.

"Once there was a warrior named Khalon, he was known as the hero of the Scale Tribe. He was a powerful warrior that held a heart of gold" As he read, he could see Lynelle listen closely as her smile slowly returned.

After reading Khalon take about how he single handedly saved several hatchings from an army that he defeated, Lynelle fell asleep as she held her favorite Dragon plushie. Mao Mao kissed her head before quietly leaving the room.

Mao Mao then went home. He decided to research the book to learn more about his fallen brother in law, Khalon. He only ever met him a few times and always wanted to learn more about him. Even if it was just a bit of knowledge, he learn a bit more about Khalon. He smiled a bit before getting ready for bed.

"I wished you were still here, Big brother. Though I promise to watch over your son. I swear it as my duty as a hero and his uncle" He closes the book and it on his desk.

He soon drift to sleep. Khalon spirit smiled as he patted his brother in law head.

"Sleep well, my dear little brother. You are a legendary hero and I am proud that you are part of my family. I am sure that you will be a great teacher and role model for Buster. Know that I will forever watch over you" Khalon smiled before his spirit returned to the astral plane.

Both Maos were comforted that day. One for her cousin and the other for his brother in law.
