A Warrior's Worry

Khalon waited patiently, though he couldn't help but tap his foot on the light blue tiles of the hospital waiting room. He knew he had to be strong for at any moment, he would be a father. His lovely Minori was in the delivery room and her cries of pain were unbearable to his heart. Normally he would be allow to be with her, to hold her paw to help her through this. Sadly, he was recommended to remain in the waiting room due to the fact that he could accidentally hurt her with his Dragon strength. Though there was some worry about his son. One nerve damaging worry that was beating at his heart harder than any weapon against his scales.

There was worry about the child before this very moment. Dragons such as himself were cold bloodied and  need their eternal fire to keep themselves warm. In summer is it was easier to keep warm and not depend so much on their fire. As for cats, they were warm bloodied mammals and used their own body heat and fur to survive cold climates. The main worry for him was that his son would be of both bloods, how would he adapt? Would he even-. He shook his head of that thought before his mind could finish.

What was wrong with him? Minori was the one who was bringing his child into the world, while he could only cloud his mind with negative thoughts. The great Dragon warrior,Khalon. The eldest son of the chef of the Scales Clan. Fearless in battle but trembling over his child being born. Then Khalon breathe in that thought again.

He was going to be a father. He was going to be a father to his son, the son he and Minori made. How would he be as a father, could be able to be as great a father as he was a warrior? He allow his claw to roam his head, as this though continue to worry him. This would be his first child, one that will be like no other. A Mao clan member that will be part dragon. It was highly rare and quite unusual. Though it was the choice that he and Minori made, one that would bring great joy to both families.

Soon his thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of the delivery room door opening. He look up to see a nurse, she was holding a small bundle of blankets, smiling at him sweetly. He soon connected the dots and his eyes widen.

"Congratulations,Mr.Khalon. It's a boy!" The nurse walked over to him and gently handed him the small bundle .

Khalon arms shook as he held the bundle of blankets in his arms, he gulped as he nervously unwrapped the blanket to see the baby face. The moment he did, he gasps and never wanted to let go.

The baby was a small black kitten with dragon features. His ears were covered with mahogany colored scales, on his face their were small scales that were surrounded by his black fur. On his neck there were was a formation of scales that were like a shield. Like his neck, his stomach also had a formation of scales but they were bigger and stopped a few inches before his legs. His arms and ankles also had scales that acted like armor to protect him, even his little tail has scales in top of it. On his back were two little wings, still to small to fly yet but in time he would learn.

"H-hey there,Buster...I-I'm your dad..." His voice was cracking at the sight of his son, alive in his arms. Tears were spilling out of his eyes in joy.

"Minori is currently resting due to exchaustion. Once she wakes up, I will inform you" The nurse the left the father and son alone to share the moment a little longer.

Khalon used one of his fingers to careful caresses his son cheek, he thanked the sky for gifted him such a treasure. Buster Mao, his son, a dragon in his own way will carry on his legacy of being a strong and kind hearted warrior just like his old man.

"Mrroar!" The little hybrid meowed, wanting to move a little

That small sound only made Khalon love the little one more. "A fine first roar son! I will teach you how to be your own kind of hero, no matter how far we may be I will share this moment with you. For from now, it will forever remain in my heart as the most precious gift life has gifted me. I won't lie, I am worried but seeing you slay that worry. I love you,Son" He held him close as he went to wait outside Minori room, so she can share their gift together.

No matter how scared a parent may be, the sight of your child and holding them for the first time will always clear away worried for that moment. A moment that seems to go on forever.  That is the gift which a newborn child grants. Happiness.
