An Unexpected Return

Once the siblings were alone, Makayla sighed as she didn't really want to watse anymore time on the preparations.

"Okay, Doux, what's bothering you this time?" Makayla asked seriously with a raised eyebrow. "Everything okay?"

"Well, I'm not too sure but I'm hoping it will be." Douxie said honestly, rubbing the back of his neck. "But I'm still starting to have second thoughts about this festival."

"Seriously? We've been planning this for weeks and you wanna cancel just like that?" Makayla asked as she started to get annoyed. "And why exactly would I do that?"

"Just, take a look at the moon and tell me what you see." Douxie said as he pointed up to the sky.

Makayla looked up and noticed the sigil in the moon. "It's a little bright still, but I think I see a sigil on it?"

"Yes, and do you remember the legend of the witch in the moon?" Douxie asked but before giving his sister any time to awnser, he explained. "Legend says that on the longest day on the thousandth year, the stars will align and aid in her escape. As she brings about eternal darkness."

"But that's just an old children's tale." Makayla said honestly. "Besides, Morgana beat her to the eternal night thing."

"But what if. . .what if it's not just a children's tale?" Douxie asked, sounding genuinely worried. "I mean, it's better safe than sorry right?"

Makayla was confused, she had never seen her brother this paranoid since his powers were revealed to the kingdom. "Doux, what's gotten into you?" She asked in concern. "You've been acting weird all morning."

Douxie didn't know how to respond but before he even had a chance to, Kokichi came bursting through the door. "Kayla, Douxie it's time to watch the sunset!" He exclaimed before running back outside.

"I guess we better get out there." Makayla said with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Doux, everything will be fine. Just come up on stage we'll do our thing, and the night will go by smoothly."

Douxie took a deep breath and gave a small nod. "You're right, I could just be paranoid over nothing." He smiled. "Thanks, sis."

Makayla then walked outside to meet up with everyone else, leaving Douxie alone as his smile dropped. He really wanted to believe it was just paranoia but the wizard knew the signs. . .he knew the witch in the moon personally.

Technically, Makayla should know the witch in the moon as well but Douxie realized that she doesn't remember anything outside the legend. That is why he lied about not being worried. "Sorry, sister I'm just doing this to protect you. . .and the kingdom."

With that said, Douxie tried to cast a warding spell over the palace. Unfortunately, it seemed that his magic was suddenly weaker.

"Bloody hell." Douxie gasped as he tried to cast the spell again but still to no avail. "My magic. . .it's gone!"

Back with the others, Makayla was walking up to the stage as her friends watched in anticipation. "Isn't this exciting!? Are you excited? I'm excited, I've never been so excited, well except for the time I realized I miraculously survived the 53rd killing game." Kokichi said, super fast and excitedly. "But I mean seriously, who could top that?"

At that moment, the queen made it up to the stage and got everyone's attention. "Citizens of the Dark Isles, as your queen, it is my pleasure to announce the begining of the Gathering celebration!" Makayla announced as the crowd cheered. "Once the sun sets, you'll witness a simplified version of spell we used to create our new ember. Strengthening it to ensure our protection for another thousand years!"

While this was going on, Douxie couldn't help but notice as the sun was getting lower and lower the sigil on the moon was blinking more and more. Until. . .it disappeared completely. "Fuzzbuckets." He whispered in fear.

"And now, I would like to introduce the previous ruler of this land and the Prince of fae. . ." Makayla said as she looked at Douxie backstage to ensure he was ready. Unfortunately, she didn't realize that the wizard was trying to signal her to stop. "My brother. . . Hisirdoux Casperan!"

The crowd clapped and cheered as Douxie sighed and walked up on stage. "Uh, hey everybody. No, I know this is the moment where we enhance the ember's strength and everything. But there's just one problem." He explained honestly as the crowd exchanged worried looks. "I. . . can't do magic at the moment because of-"

Before Douxie could say anything there was a sudden cloud of aqua green smoke coming from behind him. The crowd gasped as Douxie looked behind him, then up at the sky and realized the sun had fully set before he and Makayla quickly got off the stage.

"Bloody hell." Douxie said, now more annoyed than anything as the figure revealed herself to be a teenage girl with black hair with dark aqua green highlights, amber yellow eyes, and was wearing a black dress with a gray cloak over it and a silver star on the side, and black boots. She is known as the witch in the Moon by Legend.

"Oh my beloved subjects, it's been so long since I seen your precious little hopeful faces." The witch said with a hint of disgust in her voice.

"What did you do to our Prince?" Jinx asked seriously as she tried to charge at the witch to attack.

"Well there, nilly." Shuichi said as he grabbed a hold of jinx before she could do anything.

"Why? Am I not Royal enough for you?" The witch asked with an evil laugh. "Don't you know who I am?"

"Ooh, ooh, I love guessing games!" Kokichi smiled. "Um, poky smokes! How about Queen meanie? No, black snooty black snooty!"

Before Kokichi was able to guess any other names and make the situation worse, Shuichi took a pastry and shoved it in his mouth to make him be quiet.

"Does my crown no longer count now that I've been in prison for nearly a thousand years?" The witch asked, angered. "Did you not recall the legend? Did you not see the signs?"

"I did and I remember who you are." Douxie said seriously as he walked up to the stage to face the witch. "You're the witch in the moon also known as. . .the shadow of despair!"

'Wait, so the legend was real after all?' Makayla thought to herself in fear but when she looked closer at the witch she couldn't help but realize a strange resemblance between the Witch and her brother. 'And just who is this witch really?'

"Well, well, well, somebody who remembers me but I figured you would. . . Hisirdoux." The shadow of Despair said with an evil smirk on her face. "Then also know why I'm here?"

"You're here too. . .too. . ." Douxie started to say before getting a little too nervous as he just gulped in fear.

"Enjoy your freedom, dark Isles for it will be your last moment of freedom. From This moment forward, your precious ember will be weak and the darkness will last forever!" The shadow of despair laughed evily before disappearing into the night.

"Douxie, who or what was that?!" Makayla asked seriously. "How is she know you? And what did she mean by she figured you would remember her?"

"I'll explain later." Douxie said honestly. "Right now we need to gather as much help as we can to stop this witch asap."
