chapter 18

Abuja

Aidah's POV

It's been two days since we returned to Abuja from Maiduguri. Only Mairam, Abdallah, Ayman, and I came back, along with Ya Ummi. Yassine, Sultana, and Khalifa are still in Maiduguri. The house feels unusually quiet, with everyone in their rooms minding their own business. Ammi is coming back from Maiduguri tomorrow, inshallah.

I'll be leaving for Florida in four days, inshallah. I'm feeling so bored and don't know what to do since Mairam has already finished packing, so it's pretty quiet around here. Yesterday, I took Sayyid out for a birthday dinner date, and we had such a great time! He was being so romantic, cheeky, and cheesy—it was really sweet!

Feeling bored, I decided to pay my sister Mairam a visit. We talked for a while, catching up on things. Afterward, I left her room and headed back to mine, still feeling restless. So, I decided to go out. I called Sayyid and asked if he was free, and he said yes. I mentioned that I was bored, and he replied that he'd come to pick me up in less than an hour.

I stripped off my clothes, wrapped a towel around myself, and headed into the bathroom for a shower. After ten minutes, I came out, dried myself, and applied my body cream. I checked my closet and pulled out a pair of blue denim jeans and a blue off-shoulder blouse from Zara. I picked a matching blue veil with peach stripes to complete the look.

I combed my hair and styled it into a low bun. After spritzing on some Dolce and Gabbana perfume, I grabbed my wallet and phone and headed downstairs to wait for Sayyid.

After ten minutes, Sayyid called to say he was outside. Just then, I saw Ayman coming down the stairs. "Where are you going?" he asked.

"Out."

He shrugged and muttered, "Okay, bye."

I stepped out to the parking lot and saw Sayyid leaning against his black Mercedes. Out of his four cars, he definitely loves his Mercedes the most. The others include a Jaguar XF, a BMW Series 7, and an Audi A6. Clearly, the guy is obsessed with cars!

He was wearing black jeans and a navy blue long-sleeve button-up shirt, topped off with a navy blue NY baseball cap.

"Hey," I said as I reached him where he was standing.

"Hey, beautiful," he smiled, opening the passenger door for me. After I got in, he went to his side and hopped in as well. We zoomed out of my compound, excitement buzzing in the air.

''Where are we going?'' I asked him.

"Somewhere," he replied, his gaze fixed on the busy streets.

"Somewhere, where?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You know, you ask a lot of questions," he said, looking at me with a smirk playing on his lips.

I scoffed. "Oh really?"

He nodded. "Yeah, really."

"Have you met yourself? Seriously, I've never met anyone who could ask more questions than you, Sayyid!"

"Of course I've met me. The incredibly hot, sexy, dashing me," he said with a wink and a smirk.

I rolled my eyes playfully. "You're so full of yourself!"

We fell quiet for a while before I spoke again. "Seriously, Sayyid, where are we going?"

"Don't worry, you'll see. We'll be there soon," he said, taking a turn. From what I could tell, we were in Maitama, but I had no idea where we were headed.

We stopped at the gate of an apartment complex called "MR Grove." It sounded familiar—this was the flats that Sayyid designed. He had mentioned before that it was his first and favorite project.

The security guards opened the gate, and we drove inside the stunning three-story terrace building. They really were beautiful. We stopped in front of house number 6, and Sayyid got out of the car, came to my side, and opened the door for me to get out.

I stepped out and stood beside him, giving him a confused look. Why are we here? I wondered.

"This is our house," he said, using a key to unlock the door.

"Wow! Our house, Mashallah! This is really happening! I'm actually marrying Sayyid," I thought to myself. "Oh, it's so beautiful! I can't wait to see the rest of the house," I said as I stepped inside after him.

On the ground floor, there was the main living room, a spacious dining room, a modern kitchen, a pantry, a guest toilet, and a gorgeous patio that opened up to the outside. We made our way up the stairs, excitement bubbling inside me. On the first floor, there were three beautifully designed bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, along with a cozy living room that offered a perfect space for relaxation. The second floor featured two more bedrooms, both complete with walk-in closets and luxurious bathrooms. It felt like a dream come true.

The backyard is stunning, filled with vibrant flowers and a lovely swimming pool. Overall, the house is beautiful, with exquisite architecture and design. The rooms are spacious, which is something I truly appreciate; if there's one thing I love in a room, it's having plenty of space to breathe and move around.

We left the house and decided to go to a café. I was silent during the ride, lost in my thoughts. "Why are you so quiet?" he asked, sitting opposite me once we arrived.

"Nothing, it's just that I'm going to miss you," I said, but it came out more like a question.

He took my hands in his large ones and said, "I'm going to miss you too, Aidah. But hey, on the bright side, when you get back, we're getting married!" He smiled, and I couldn't help but smile back, nodding in agreement.

We soon arrived at the café in Wuse, which belongs to my sister, Ya Ummi. Entering side by side, we picked a table next to the window. After browsing the menu, we placed our orders and settled in, waiting for the food to arrive. I ordered a pomegranate chamomile tea and a triple chocolate muffin, while Sayyid went for an Americano black coffee.

Sayyid snapped a picture of me while we waited for our food. I was holding a jug of juice and a glass cup, feeling a bit playful. A few minutes later, our order arrived, and the muffin looked absolutely delicious. "How do you even drink this thing?" I asked, referring to his coffee.

He looked at me and shrugged. "I don't really know; I got addicted because of work."

"I drink it every day back in Boston," he added, and I nodded, scrunching my face at the thought.

We finished our meal, chatting the whole time, then paid and left the café. He drove me home so I could rest and pack for my trip. Before I got out of the car, he promised he would come to see me tomorrow and the next day, inshallah.

Miami, Florida

It's been almost two months since I returned to Miami, and everything is going smoothly, Alhamdulillah. I haven't started the wedding shopping yet, but Kami and I have kicked off our graduation shopping, excitedly browsing for the perfect outfits to celebrate this milestone together.

We are currently at the Bal harbor shops to look for outfits. I can't believe my graduation is tomorrow, I am truly excited. Ammi, Amma, Khalifa, Ya Mamma, Mama, Yakaka, Ya Hammad, Mairam and Ya Ibrahim, Ya Ummi are all here already for the graduation. My Baba said he couldn't make it this time. I was a bit sad but I am glad my mothers and siblings are going to be there for us.

We stepped into a high-end store to find the perfect outfits. I picked out cream-colored silk wide-leg pants and an emerald green silk dress shirt, which looked stunning together. I paired them with emerald green Christian Louboutin heels that added a touch of elegance. To complete the look, I chose matching diamond jewelry and a cream turban, feeling excited about how everything came together.

I couldn't wait to start my wedding shopping; the anticipation was thrilling. Honestly, I was just as excited about getting married to Sayyid. The thought of our future together filled me with joy and eagerness.

After finishing our shopping, we drove back home to the Manor CityPlace in Doral. The apartment is lovely, featuring two bedrooms, each with a walk-in closet and a private bathroom. It also has a spacious kitchen, a study, and a cozy living room. Of course, Kami is my roommate, and we've been having a great time living together.

We arrived home a few minutes ago, and it was already time for Maghreb, so we went inside to pray. I entered my bathroom, performed wudu, and then prayed. After finishing, I recited my adhkar and changed into something comfortable, ready to relax for the evening.

I finished my adhkar and grabbed my phone to call the love of my life via FaceTime. He picked up on the third ring, and his handsome face appeared on my screen. "Hey babe," came his smooth, captivating voice, making me smile instantly.

"Hey you," I replied, feeling a warm rush of happiness at seeing him.

"How are you, my love?" he asked, his handsome face lighting up with a dashing smile.

"I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. How was work today?" I asked, eager to hear about his day.

He sighed and said, "Work was just there, fah. What did you do today?"

"I went and bought my graduation outfit," I replied, a smile spreading across my face as I remembered the fun we had shopping.

"Nice! I can't believe I'm not going to be there," he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Yeah, me too," I said, feeling a wave of sadness wash over me.

We shifted the conversation to lighter topics, chatting about everything and nothing at all. Eventually, I mentioned that I was going to bed. "Yeah, you should sleep, baby. Tomorrow is the day," he said, smiling warmly.

I sighed, "Yeah! Our day!" My excitement was palpable as I thought about everything that was about to unfold.

He chuckled. "Goodnight baby. I love you"

"Love you too, bye." With that, I ended the call, feeling a mix of warmth and anticipation for what was to come.
