The Pool of Renewal

Deep in woods of Frost Stone Forest lies The Pool of Renewal. A pool of water said to restore one's strength and strengthen one's spirit. The pool was said to be created by the almighty not long after the earth's creation. But a young man walked in the very same forest, not believing in such fairy tales. Timothy was young, yes but sought after fresh meet to feed his family. He was the eldest of 5 and with a scumbag of a father, he was left to provide in what ways he could.

Upon his travels through the woods he spotted three bears, two stood tall with the manners of a man, and other sat on a rock as if to mimic human posture. All three spotted him ignoring him as they continued to speak among themselves. With his growing curiosity, he approached the bears, not much shorter than himself as he stood beside them. They each turned their heads, as if to acknowledge him, but then went back to talking.

He simply sat there as he made out the stuffy, rough and scratchy human speech the bears were making. Suddenly one called out to him.

"Come on out boy! We won't bite!" The one sitting on the rock said.

Timothy left his cover as he stepped forward, watching the bears wave him on. He came close, only 15 feet away. He could see the different colors of their eyes, and slightly different fur patterns.

"What brings you around these parts human?" One roared.

"Indeed, most bears aren't so friendly." The second warned.

"Who's to say we are?" The third replied.

The bears laughed together as if a joke had been spoken, but all Timothy saw was three potentially life threatening beast. He held his bow a little bit more title as the bears wiped away their tears.

"Aye, boy, please put the bow down, no need for violence here." The first one said, leaping from his rock as he continued to walk on two feet.

"Where are you going?" Timothy inquired.

"To the Pool of Renewal! Come join us!"The first bear yelled back as the other two beckoned.

Timothy looked to the right and left of him as he put his bow away. He followed the three little bears, through the accursed forest. Until he spotted an open area. One tree next to a pond, the colorful leafs floating on the water's surface. Small ripples were made woth each dropping leaf. No bug, nor filth entered the pool, each bear continued to mumble and talk nonsense as Timothy simply glared around the area.

It had seemed to be that the Almighty truly existed and that the pool had been created. Sudden silence ram across the forest, Timothy not noticing a thing, mesmerized with the view, his mouth opened widely.

The third bear chuckled, the same to crack a joke about eating him, "Look at his face!"

The other suddenly started to laugh along, as Timothy instantly Turned around upset.

"This is just a simple pond." Timothy tried to reason.

"Ha! You aren't to bright, if senseless bears could figure it out, but not you?"

"What do you mean?" Timothy questioned.

"That's long story kid." The bear started.

"It's Timothy, and i'm interested," said the young hunter.

"Well Timmy," The third bear spoke, "I'm Ravenous, this is Famished, and the eldest is Voracious."

He had pointed to each bear, Voracious being the one who sat on the rock earlier. Timothy was slightly concerned of their names, but decided to listen.

"Why yes, I am Voracious," the bear began." We weren't always walking talking bears, we used to be normal dumb bears, until we drank from the Pool of Renewal. Upon gaining a greater state of being, we were then visited by the Almighty. He gave unto us knowledge to decide, but required something of equal value, and so..."

Famished barged in, "So we gave him our honey."

"Ah, honey? You have away honey for reasoning?" Timothy replied with curiosity, "Seems like a small price."

"You're incorrect! Honey for a bear is like gold!" Ravenous spoke up.

"Look, you'll see. Drink of the pool." Famished invited.

Timothy gave them a funny look, as he knelt by the pool dipping his hand into the cool pond. Cool fridged water dripped from his hands as he took a sip. A deep booming voice was heard throughout the forest as he swallowed the pure water.

"Who drinks at my fountain? A mortal? One who easily submits to death? And what is it you seek at my pool? Speak!"

Timothy looked back to the bears who smiled an evil grin.

"I wish for my father's death!" Timothy said clenching his fist.

He could feel energy rushing through his body, like an elixir had improved his senses and strength. He had been weary before, but now could only feel a rush of energy.

"Let it be done, but at what price?"

"My bow, the source that will feed me."

"Very well boy! Let it be so!"

The bow he had simply shattered, crumbling into dust around Timothy as he looked around him. He felt relieved, as if a small weight had been lifted. He rushed back to his home as the bears yelled at him.

"Where you going" The all said in unison.

It wasn't long before they spotted the mortal there once more. It was in the morning the next day when the three bears were talking once more in the same place Timothy had spotted them last time. He approached the bears as the glanced at him.

"Can it be reversed?" Timothy asked as the bears looked at each other.

"Nah, the effects are permanent." Voracious proclaimed.

"I need a bow or my family will go hungry." Timothy spoke.

Each bear looked at each other smiling. They were plotting to kill the boy, but fate had it so he may be of use to them.

"Well, i'll tell you what. We," Voracious started, motioning his paw to his other two brothers, "Want hands, so we can grab things. However the only way to do that is to drink of the pool and strike a deal. Being bears we have little to nothing to offer. However if you strike the deal, we'll bring you back a deer."

Timothy thought to himself for a few seconds than spoke, "Very well ut's a deal."

Timothy walked over to the pond, drinking much as he did before as the Almight came before him.

"Mortal, it is unwise to drink of this pond continuously. Never the less, you have come to bargain. What is it you offer me?"

"I offer you my necklaces. It is the treasure of my family, our prized posesion and heirloom but in return I ask that the three bears, Famished, Voracious, and Ravenous have thumbs."

The necklaces slowly dissipated as the bow before it. As promised the bears delivered the deer. Timothy guided them to his house, keeping them out of sight of his family as he carried the deer into the house.

Each bear grinned, they knew where he lived, and because of their patience they would have a feast of human fleash.
