Late holiday special
Its held up by ink, spite, and two by fours,
Enjoy
Shawn and Grant were certainly not dating.
"Shawn the budgets aren't looking good. We don't have enough for a Christmas outing as extravagant as you'd like it!"
The early morning rays of the sun hadn't even poked through the window, and somehow Grant still found it in him to be awake to glare at his roommate, currently wrapped up in the covers that were certainly not his.
"We have the money though, so let me take you out!" Shawn complained, though his words were slurred because he was still half asleep.
"Just because we could spend all the money doesn't mean that we shoul-Shawn Flynn let go of me!"
The account yelped as his roommate grabbed his forearm and pushed him down on the bed again. Despite his escape efforts, Shawn had wrapped his arms around Grant and would not let him go.
Yeah, the shared bed was to save on expenses. Less rooms, less money to pay. Right...
"We've got to wake up," he argued.
"Mm, nice try. It's Christmas, so sleep in for once."
Though he wanted to argue that this was technically not Christmas as the Yuletide celebration was two days hence.
Joey was insistent that everyone take a few days off to bask in the afterglow of such a joyous vacation so the employees got to enjoy an extra few days off for the holidays. So Shawn's argument had some merit, at least.
"It's too early, we can talk about this later," Shawn grumbled, his sentence ending in a snore.
Well, that was anticlimactic. And while Grant would like to argue, it was comfy. Plus, he could use the extra sleep.
When the two of them finally woke up for the day, it was late in the morning and filled with a chaotic whirlwind of events that by now seemed natural.
For one, while brewing Grant's coffee, Shawn took a sip to ensure it tasted right before handing Grant that same cup. It had flustered Grant the first few times, but it was just part of how Shawn was, and he became accustomed to it.
Also, he seemed to be checking his watch a lot more than usual; with coffee in his system, the Irishman was more alert than earlier and Grant couldn't for the life of him think to wonder why.
Was Shawn going on a date with someone? Why else would he ask Grant to make sure his hair looked okay? Come on, he never put that much effort into his outfits...right?
Or had he just not noticed those things before?
I mean...it's not like Shawn put the effort in for Grant...right?
When Shawn was finished, he turned to look at Grant, who wasn't nearly as ready as Shawn was. "Well? What're you waiting for?"
"Aren't you meeting up with a pretty lady or something?" Grant asked. "Not sure if anybody's seen you look so nice in the studio before."
Shawn grabbed Grant's arm again (it seemed to be a developing pattern recently), and dragged him to their bedroom. "C'mon, I didn't put this effort in for just anybody."
Before Grant could fully understand what was going on, Shawn was leading him to a local arcade downtown. There was a sale today, where couples could get half off their games, food, and drink.
"What're we doing here?" Grant asked, and before he could piece together that one, couples typically meant people romantically involved with one another and two, Shawn was taking a pink heart pin and giving it to Grant to pin on his shirt to match with Shawn's own heart pin, the worker was congratulating them on their relationship and giving them their first complimentary drink. Nothing too special; just some cokes; but free nonetheless.
"See, Grant? I can treat you just fine the way things are."
Grant didn't say anything, in a daze at how quickly they got their names on the list for the restaurant.
"What is this all about?" He asked, gesturing to their matching pins. "I mean...we aren't really...you know, together? Right?"
Shawn pressed a finger to Grant's lips to silence him. "I mean, not if you don't want great deals on games and food."
"No...actually that sounds good. But why are we doing this?"
Shawn said nothing as he dragged Grant to a game counter to receive the game cards. The person behind the counter smiled at them and gave them well wishes.
"Well, Mr. Drew was kind enough to give us our weekends back. Plus with the shared apartment, we've got a decent amount of money saved up. I told you I'd treat you, and I'm an Irishman of my word."
Was it just Grant or did the room just get a little hotter?
"Well, Mr. Cohen, you sure are a pretty shade of pink right about now," Shawn teased, poking the accountant's cheek.
Grant was speechless and kept thinking about that one. stupid. line. Even as Shawn now dragged him to one of the claw machines, he wasn't really focusing...which was ridiculous, because Shawn said those kinds of things all the time, so he shouldn't be that surprised.
Right? Right?
Well, whatever. He looked within the machine and sighed. Iif Shawn had made any of these, he'd snatch them all. But...there was...a weird-looking mushroom thing, some sort of holiday-themed star characters...like someone was drunk in a toy factory and decided this was the best option.
He cleared his throat; it'd been an almost unacceptable length of silence. "If you win me...one of the mushrooms, I'll...uh...I'll give you a kiss."
He'd never seen Shawn so focused before.
Well, when the prize was won, how could he refuse his prize?
Shawn drank in the affection, hugging Grant tightly and muttering about how adorable he was. Certainly got a lot of looks, but that's what happened when you hung out with Shawn. Right?
Yeah. And whatever...whatever this thing that they had was, it didn't matter. Not right now, anyways.
Okay...maybe the two of them would give dating a try.
