Chapter II

A/N: As you may or may not be noticed, Ruby is using Ruby's scythe from RWBY. I wrote this a year ago and just randomly posting it so I may have forgotten a lot of things about it and I apologize for any plot holes.

Loud gunshots can be heard in the Dark Forest. Severed limbs and head of beowolves fly here and there as Ruby used her Crescent Rose to defend herself from her attackers. She cut them down effortlessly even though she was wearing a skirt and only use one eye. Her somersaults, her maneuvers, and how she uses the recoils of her sniper scythe to her advantage are very impressive to witness.

She was on her way back to her house when a pack of beowolves attacked her. Suddenly, an uncontrollable rage overcame her body as her eyes changed from emeralds to red rubies. It was like she was an entirely different person because her mind was so clouded with rage. All she could think of is to kill every single one of them as revenge for slaughtering her whole family and village.

The last wolf fell with a bullet through its head as she was pushed by the recoil of her weapon but she maneuvered her body to avoid injuries. She landed on her feet as she clutched her scythe behind her back.

Unbeknownst to the girl was a hidden spectator who serves as the sole witness to the girl's incredible skill and valor.

Dyrroth POV

Dyrroth was treading the forests still looking for the ingredients Selena instructed him to get but with little luck. Only the nymph tears are in his possession while the others' locations are unknown. For a forest well know for beowolves he can't seem to find any, furthermore, he can not figure out which is nightshade among the different plum-colored berries in the forest.

Gunshots and wolf howls caught his attention and he bailed on his quest to see what the commotion was about. To his great surprise, he saw her again. The girl with a stupidly bright red hood in a monster-ridden forest is fighting against dozens and dozens of beowolves. He figured that she might be the reason why he hasn't met a single beowolf until now, she was killing them all by herself.

He watched her the entire fight thoroughly impressed by her strategies and fighting style. She combined two of the most dangerous weapons in the world and utilized them with great excellence in battle. Due to her petite stature and appearance of weakness, no one would have figured out that she could perform such remarkable feats. Her two traits are actually parts of her weapons. Being underestimated made her enemies lower their guard when in truth it takes great effort to even lay a hand on a single strand of her hair and her small body gave her agility even with a huge and heavy weapon. At first, he thought that she was just a stupid little girl but now she is something that can be of use to him. He will make her help him retrieve those blasted ingredients and then challenge her into a fight. She seems like a worthy opponent to a demon of his caliber. Truly can you never judge a person by their appearance.

Ruby POV

Ruby moved Crescent Rose to her side and tried moving away from the pile of dead bodies. Doing so reminded her of the same night when she slaughtered the beowolves that attacked her village. The memory distracted her that she did not notice a beowolf missing its right arm pounce on her. She fell on her back with the wolf on top of her trying to bite her face off. She used the handle of her scythe to block its maw. The wolf chewed the metal in a desperate attempt to bite her but the metal was too strong. Ruby's heart was racing and it took her a solid half-minute to figure out what happened. With all her might she kicked the beowolf on its stomach, sending it flying through the air and immediately shot its head off. She panted heavily not in exhaustion but in shock.

She suddenly collapsed on her knees letting go of her weapon as she clutched her eye covered with an eye patch. She moaned as memories from that dreadful night repeat themselves in her head. She remembers how terrified she was when the monster came out of her bedroom. She remembers the claws that protrude from her grandfather's chest then the monster slammed him to the ground, killing him instantly. Useless.

"Shut up"

She remembers how her grandmother pushed her to save her life as a beowolf pounce on her. Dependent.

"Shut up!"

She remembers hiding in their corpses so that beowolves won't find her. Weak.

"SHUT UP."

The memory of their blood spilling on her made her release a loud cry that resounded through the forest. She covered her ears to try to block out their ringing as she cried, pouring all her grief with her tears and lowering her guard. It seems like fighting dozens of beowolves tonight triggered the traumatic experience that scarred her forever. After all, today is the same day that it happened.

A dark blue aura exuded from her body sending a ripple of dreadful power pulsing in the wind however the maiden doesn't seem to notice this as she continued crying. Her spectator watched in awe and curiosity, he felt her power. It was terrifying like walking in a dungeon with a primordial dragon slumbering beside you. Golden glyphs started burning in the air and transforming into golden chains of light that snaked around the girl and bound around her body. The chains tightened around her skin and sealed the darkness away.

The girl was too preoccupied by her mental break down that she didn't notice a monstrous boar that emerged from the forest. Ruby's red cape danced with the wind which seemed to anger the beast. The boar kicked the dirt and charged at her. It was not too far away therefore it can hit her in a matter of seconds.

Only when it released a loud pig version of a roar did she start but it was already too late for her to do anything. The boar was only two meters from her when she tried grabbing Crescent Rose. Her surroundings blurred as her body was... .dragged.

She closed her eyes in impulse, bracing for pain. She expected to collide against a tree or the solid ground but there was only a little thud and a few up and down rocking then her body was still.

"You can open your eyes now princess." A male spoke to her in a mocking manner. Ruby slowly opened her eyes. His features are still quite a blur due to how hard she was keeping them shut but she can already tell that he is not a normal man. For one he is purple.

As her vision returns to normal, Ruby can better observe her companion and the more she does so the more confused she gets. The boy looks like he was about her age. His hair is silver and his eyes are oddly different from each other but his corneas are black and his irises are so red. He wore an armor of sorts in his back with lots of spikes and it also exposed his chest, revealing a red crystal. The back of his purple garment had a tail suit-like design which gave him a rather fancy appearance.

Ruby noticed horns protruding from the top of his head and a narrow tail with a tip in the shape of an arrowhead sway from side to side behind him. The pieces of evidence lead to only one logical conclusion about the man. He's a demon.

Ruby became alarmed. Why is a demon touching her?

She couldn't think straight, unable to process anything happening around her. The boar was about to trample her but this "person" suddenly came out of nowhere and came running in and saving her. Great, what a cliché fairy tale romance garbage, she thought. And to put the cherry on top, he was holding her like a bride.

"What the fuck is happening? You're not some kind of prince saving a girl kind of garbage, are you?" Ruby blurted in impulse. The man's face turned into that of fascination before he erupted into a series of laughter.

"You're right. Luckily I'm not your prince charming, princess."

"Then what are you?"

The boy smirked. "I'm the bad guy."

Before further dialogues can be exchanged the branch on which the boy is standing shook as the boar hit the tree with its thick head. It charged again but Dyrroth jumped off the branch into the boar's back and used it as a trampoline to get to another tree.

"We've got to keep moving. Put me down so that I can move on my own." Ruby said as she instinctively clutched on to him harder to prevent herself from falling. The demon complied and placed her feet on the sturdy branch.

"Any ideas on how to kill that pig? You should know, you live here." asked the demon as he handed her weapon back to her in its compact form.

"Who are you again?"

"The name's Dyrroth, Prince of Abyss, princess." he introduced and smirked proudly as if his identity is the greatest thing in the world.

"I'm Ruby Rose. And by the fiery pits of the Abyss stop calling me princess."

"Stop using my home as a swear word, this godforsaken forest is no better. Also, is everything about you, Red? Your name, your clothes, your weapon." Dyrroth mused.

"No time for chit chat." Ruby replied as she jumped off the branch. She turned Crescent Rose into its sniper form and shot five bullets towards the monster's hind but they only bounced off, seeming to aggravate the beast more. It charged at her and Ruby saw this as a chance to hop on its back. She balanced herself on top of the moving boar and when she is semi-stable she converted Crescent Rose into a scythe. Her weapon glowed red like the light of a burning fire. She jumped five meters from the boar and swung her scythe which released a crescent-shaped thin blade of shockwave and hit the boar's spine. It released loud oink in pain and tried charging at her but a purple energy blast hit it from behind (Dyrroth's 1st skill). It charged towards Dyrroth's direction instead and the demon fearlessly faced it heads on.

He was only using his 1st skill and basic attacks but he was able to hold off the beast and evade being struck by its tusks however the boar also proved to be a formidable foe because his attacks are being absorbed by its thick stone-like skin. Dyrroth hit its nose with his circular strike (his passive effect after two basic attacks) and released his Destructive Rush (Ultimate) towards its face but it did nothing but aggravated the beast and it reared to trample him with its hooves but bullets shot through the air, expertly hitting its left eye but never coming too close to the demon. It fell on its feet and roared in pain.

Dyrroth looked over his shoulders and saw Ruby holding her scythe pointing it towards the beast. Ruby shot again perfectly hitting the beast but one bullet came too close to Dyrroth's tail which nearly took out the tip if he wasn't unintentionally swaying it. "Careful with the tail will you or else I'll take out your only good eye." he threatened.

"Look out!" She yelled at him but it was too late. When he turned to face the boar, he was sent flying as it charged at him in a mad rage.

His body tumbled like a stone before landing painfully on his back, bruised and scathed. He opened his eyes and saw the pale moon and the billions of stars shining down at him. The view of the galaxy from this part is very gorgeous unlike in the abyss.

"Hey asshole, wake up, or did that pig kill you already." The red hooded girl came into his view. The light of the moon gave her blond hair a golden glow which made her look ethereal. Only now did he realize that red suits her best among all the colors of the spectrum.

"Don't stare at me like that demon. Come on up." Ruby reached her hand out for him which he slapped and stood on his own. He immediately noticed that the boar was trapped in a strong swirling water cage.

"We should retreat before it escapes. You're wounded." Ruby suggested.

"Nah nah nah, your strategies are pitiful."

"And what do you purpose we do about it?" Ruby raised a brow and crossed her arms at him.

"Kill it of course." Dyrroth answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Little red you're so incompetent. See that, there's blood oozing from its underside. I think you did that when you shot it, nevertheless, I think that its skin is only thick on its side and top. Basically, those that need to be protected against fights however,"

"It has no reason to protect its underside because it's the least likely place damage in its fights making its belly vulnerable!" Ruby cut him off.

"Exactly. The only problem is how we can make it expose its belly."

"I have the perfect idea." Ruby whispered her plans to Dyrroth who listened with intent absorbing and analyzing her plans.

"Are you sure that this is going to work?" Dyrroth asked in doubt.

"Not really, I think you'd screw up." Ruby answered.

"Not as bad as you." Dyrroth retorted.

Before the two could insult each other more, the boar finally broke from its watery prison and released a loud shrill.

"Ready." Ruby yelled to her companion who gave her a nod and ran to his designated location.

She removed her cape from her shoulders and waved it like a matador. "Hey, pork chop! Come get me." she called. The boar instantly placed all its undivided attention to her and ran. The moment the boar charged, Ruby already ran and placed her cape back on her shoulders. It flew like a flag as red rose petals flew from it.

Ruby carefully evaded the different obstacles in her path the large rocks, the fallen trees, the thick roots, and trampolined using a stray beowolf to avoid stepping on a large mud puddle. The maiden ran at full speed, too rapid for the boar to catch up yet making sure that she does not lose it while Dyrroth ran after the boar, ready to execute the maiden's plan at her signal.

They soon reached a clearing where a boulder about six meters tall rests in the distance. Ruby ran to it with the boar only a few meters away from her. She knew from the beginning that her plan wasn't a solid foolproof but she just hopes that it works enough for Dyrroth to release the killing blow.

When she finally reached the boulder, she leaped and let go of her cape which flew opposite from her. The boar followed the cape, turning its back from her. Ruby landed on top of the boulder and reacted fast. She converted Crescent Rose into a scythe and swung it under the boar, she hooked its head and it reared upward exposing to Dyrroth, who was close behind, its furry belly.

"NOW!" she yelled at him, pulling the boar with all her might though it was taking everything in her to hold onto her scythe and keep the boar in that position.

Dyrroth activated his Ultimate. One by one, four artifacts floated in front of him each one surrounded by a purple energy and within matters of seconds, they shot towards the belly of the boar and pierced through its bowels, killing the beast. Blood and bits and pieces of the monster splashed to his body.

Ruby was propelled forward as the boar collapsed. She landed hard on the solid ground belly flat. The ground was so bumpy and uneven with stones and other sharp and jagged objects which made it more painful.

Ruby groaned in pain as her body ached in every place. She propped her elbows on the ground to pull herself up but failed as her abdomen ached due to suddenly being stretched. "My everything hurts." she moaned in pain.

She was suddenly pushed to her side by something underneath her. What she thought was the bumpy jagged ground was actually the demon. The sharp things poking her must be his clothes or whatever those things that he wears over his torso and chest. Ruby flushed and instantly stood up. She released a meek apology

"Sorry, I was thrown forward because of inertia. Did I... break any of your bones?" she asked guiltily.

"I think you broke three of my ribs, you were quite fat." Dyrroth teased which made the maiden turn bright as her cloak.

"For your information, my waistline is just 25 and my weight is only 30 kilos." Ruby said, feeling insulted.

"Who cares but that was such an amazing tandem we had there. It really surprised me how a little girl was able to lift something thirty times her weight." He complimented, patting her head. Ruby slapped his hand away and furrowed her brows, unsure if she should be offended or pleased at being praised.

"You weren't bad yourself. Your basic attacks are well calculated and precise, I've never seen someone use such a weapon as yours before." Ruby returned.

"And you'll never see one as good as me." His narcissism is getting under her skin and it was taking everything in her to not punch him for saving her life earlier.

There was a long pause between the two as they only stood in place thinking of things to say or do next. Ruby avoided looking at his direction or anywhere near him however he does the contrary, he never took his gaze off of her even for a moment.

It took Ruby a moment to decide what to say. "You saved my life earlier and I just want to thank you for doing so. That's why I owe you a favor." She picked up her scythe and returned it to its compact form to holster it behind her. "Ask me anything you want as long as it does not tarnish my dignity and honor and I will do everything in my power to make it happen."

Dyrroth thought for a moment considering her offer. He smiled as the situation went according to plan. "There are certain ingredients I need to retrieve and I am aware that those things can only be found here in your forest." he answered.

"Very well, I shall retrieve them for you. Just give me the list and I will bring them to you."

"Nah, if all of those are here then I'm sure that it'll be quite an adventure retrieving them. Fighting and killing the monsters in here would be a good sport. I only need your assistance, not make you do everything on your own. It's like letting you play alone in the perfect playground while I just sit and watch you. That would be too boring. I want to kill as many monsters here as I can."

"I'm astounded by your bloodlust but okay, let's just meet back here tomorrow morning. I don't want to encounter another pack of beowolf or anything along the way so I'm leaving now. Goodbye." she bid him farewell and turned her back on him.

She had only reached a few steps when she turned back to him as he called her name. "You left this." Dyrroth handed her her red cape and she replied with a small thank you.

"Dyrroth, if I may ask what are those ingredients for and what are they so I can prepare an itinerary?" Ruby inquired.

Dyrroth didn't answer, he only stood still. He also didn't seem like he was breathing. His tail stopped moving and he only stared to the ground. Ruby became alarmed. Did she say or do anything wrong?

She took a few steps towards him. Unexpectedly he collapsed forward and luckily for him Ruby was there to catch him but the girl also didn't expect it so his face fell on her shoulder. Ruby sigh.

"Looks like you're going to my house."

"What a hell of a day." she sighed and started walking towards her home as the howling of the beowolves resounds in the forest.
