Part One: The Hunt
The next morning, Korra was one of the first to wake up. She was in Asami's arms, and Asami was laying with her back pressed against Bolin's back. They were all on the ground, except for Mako. Mako was already awake, watching for possible invaders outside. Katara was asleep as well, but she was on a higher point in the cave, showing her position as Clan Mother.
Anyway, Korra was happily snuggled in Asami's arms, her head tucked under Asami's chin. She had been awake for a few minutes now, barely lucid, but opened her eyes and let out a yawn, slowly rising to get up. Asami had other plans, as she kept her arms wrapped around Korra, holding her down. "Asami," Korra whined, earning a small chuckle from Asami.
"Yes?"
"I've gotta get up," Korra said with a smile, sitting up a bit.
"I know," Asami hummed, looking up at Korra with a single eye.
"-to train with Mako," Korra added, her body betraying her and laying down again. She snuggled her way back into Asami, humming as she felt her partners chin on top of her head.
"Yes," Asami hummed, wrapping her arms around Korra's shoulders and pulling her deeper into her warmth.
It only took Korra a couple seconds to give up, sighing out a "Nevermind," and happily wrapping her arms around Asami's waist. It only took a couple more seconds for Mako to enter the cave, almost like he had expected this predicament.
"Asami, cmon," he sighed. It was never annoyance, but he was losing his rather large amount of patience. Mako's voice, mainly it's existence, caused a laugh to come from Korra's mouth.
"I need to get up. Training also gives us food," Korra said softly, slowly sitting up as Asami loosened her grip. "I'll be back later, I promise," she said, planting a soft kiss on her partners forehead and standing up.
Korra and Mako left the cave, waving goodbye to Katara and Bolin before walking to a nearby river. They slowly sat down by the lake, Mako watching Korra carefully. "I know you got us dinner, but we still need supplies. If you can get the dirt thats under the water, we have the equipment to move it and start a farm," he said, earning a nod from Korra.
"At the very least, I can bring up something," she said, digging her hands into the wet sand under the water. "Get to work on breakfast for the others, this might take a bit," she said, giving Mako a gentle smile and watching him walk away before returning her attention to her work. Korra took in a breath and closed her eyes, letting her consciousness move like water through the sand, finding the sediment-rich dirt at the bottom of the lake. She couldn't swim to it, it was too deep, and she didn't want others to try and get themselves hurt. So, Korra focused on turning the dirt into a solid form, and slowly worked it upwards. It took time, but eventually Korra got the object loose from the base of the river, and she used the water to work it towards the surface of the water. The woman lunged forwards and grabbed hold of it, the turkey-sized object heavier than expected. Despite this, Korra took it in her arms and stood, walking towards the cave and presenting it to Katara.
The clan mother agreed to the dirts importance, especially since Asami had recently found fruits whose seeds might be able to grow in the dirt, giving them food for when hunting season starts to wind down. Bolin was called, and he was asked to create a large hole in the ground, which his earth bending allowed him to do with ease. Korra set the object in the hole, and together, they worked to get it back to it's more dirt-like texture. Asami came with the fruit, something smaller that looked like a tomato, and broke it apart before planting half of it, burying it in the dirt.
The clan stepped back and admired their seemingly small amount of work, turning to Mako as he brought them food for lunch. It had been hours since Korra and Mako first woke up, and it was time to hunt for supplies.
Katara decided that Korra and Bolin would be hunting for fur and bone, today. They were asked to find something smaller, since they didn't need meat, and they didn't want to risk wasting resources. So, off they went.
It wasn't long before Bolin spotted a platypus bear, seemingly alone. They had to make sure it was male, as females often had young to watch over, and were much more hostile. Korra went to get a closer look, using surrounding tree's to get closer to the creature. She knew that the creature could climb trees, but she also knew that if she played her cards right, it wouldn't get the chance. Markings on the creature's head revealed it to be a male, which was a good sign. A quick signal to Bolin, and the hunt was started.
Bolin started by surrounding the creature on all sides with stone, coming up from the ground and blocking any possible exits. Korra dropped into the artificial fighting pit, springing up stone around the creature, trapping it in a small confinement than Bolin had. It wasn't even Korra who made the final move to the swift hunt, it was Bolin launching a large boulder at the creatures head, effectively killing it.
Getting the creature back was the hard part. Korra and Bolin could handle cleaning up the area, putting the rock back where it was, but moving the creature was always a hassle. They decided to roll it onto a slate of stone and work together to earth-bend it back to the pack, and then take care of the creature once they arrived.
That's exactly what happened as well. Mako smiled as they arrived with the large creature, and him and Bolin got to work taking what they needed, storing what they didn't for later, and Korra worked to freeze the meat for a future date as well. In fact, Korra moved the meat to what acted like a walk-in freezer with other raw meat, ice surrounding all of it. As she walked out of that separate cave, she saw what seemed to be a commotion where the others were.
She sprang into action, running quickly to the others and seeing the body of one of their own on the ground, covered in blood.
