June - After

Once upon a time,
we were friends, you and I.
But time goes on,
like friendships do too.
We fell for each other,
broke my heart in two.

I love that we're friends.
Trust me, I do.
But the pain caused by you,
is more than a few.
I love you, really,
but move on I must,
and with you by my side,
soon I shall not.

Love is a funny thing,
it controls you a lot,
but all of a sudden,
it's as empty as a jot.

I thought maybe, just maybe,
there was hope for you and me.
I thought love, kind would be,
but more wrong I've never been.

I guess I hope too much,
and that's a problem to fix up,
but for now I want to ask,
for a mini friendship-breakup?

It won't be too long,
for I care about you very much.
But distance would be nice.
Not really,
though it would be just a trice.

I know you care for me too,
and for that I ask you to,
give me a little space,
until I can again see your face.
