My Neighbors Are Scary

I have the most weirdest neighbors ever. Every time I come out to do my errands, I always see them staring at me. I don't mean just curious staring...just...staring. Following my every move. I always pondered why they would do that. Still, they are my neighbors. And I must admit, neighbors do attend to do some weird things or something like that. When I moved to San Antonio, I was hoping to finally have my own freedom and finally be able to do things my way. All my life, living with my family brought stress on me. Don't get me wrong, I love them to death. Especially my little sister.

She would sometimes play video games with me whenever she wasn't busy with homework or practicing piano.

After her passing however, I felt empty inside and wanted out. Finally, once I got into college, I was now a free man. I bought a house down in San Antonio and moved outta my family's house.

"Freedom at last!" I said as I plopped onto my bed back first. I looked at my sister's photograph of her & smiled. "I kept my promise sis. I made it to college and and finally got my freedom. I miss you sis."

I heard a knock from downstairs breaking me from my attention towards my sister's picture and went downstairs to go answer. There was a beautiful girl standing there with long flowing brown auburn hair, that framed a very delicate and breath taking beautiful face. Blue eyes that could see into your soul and pink lips that just begged to be kissed. Anyway, I was blushing like crazy and struggled to say something. My god, her body looked amazing! "Hello, I saw you from across the street yesterday and thought you were moving here and figured I'd come and say hi and welcome to the neighborhood. My name's Janet. What's yours?" Oh my god, her voice sounded sweet like heaven. "O-oh, I uh, I'm James. Nice to meet you Janet. Would you like to come in?" I said, finally swallowing my fear of screwing up and humiliating myself. "Sure!" She said coming in. I closed the door and told her to make herself at home. I went to make us something to eat while got comfortable. "Wow, nice house! Is your family here with you?" She asked looking around. "No. I live on my own," I replied. She giggled happily and sat on the sofa.

I sat with her and we chatted about life and the weather. We both had a good time together. She loved sports and was a huge football fan. She even loved gaming too. I was happy. We started playing video games from that point on. I kept losing from her, which was humiliating, but fun all the while. It felt good to play video games with someone, ever since my sister's passing. After hours of playing video games, Janet told me that it was getting late and that she should be heading back home. As I opened the door for her, she quickly gave me a kiss on my cheek and thanked me for a good time. But as she was halfway out, she stopped and turned back to me. Her facial expression had changed into a serious look. "James, I want you to promise me something."

"Um, sure. What is it?"
"I want you to promise me never to come out during the dark."
"Wh-why?"
"The neighbors are weird and their eyes follow your every move. They're not normal. Please promise me you won't come out at night."
"Why? They're just neigh--"
"NO THEY ARE NOT!!"

I jumped at her sudden change of voice tone. She sighed and came back up to me. "Sorry, but listen to me. These people...if they are people...are not normal. Something about them just sends a shiver up my spine. I don't trust them. They're just creepy. Promise you won't come out at night."

I nodded yes and she hugged me tightly and went back to her house. I was left with many unanswered questions in my head.

That night I couldn't sleep. Questions kept running through my head as to why going outside was such a bad idea. I had to know why. My curiosity was getting the best of me. I peeked outside my window and I saw the stars and moon shining and twinkling in the clear night sky. However, I heard something else too. I heard something unusual...something not human. It sounded like a dying animal of sorts. Almost...demonic. I looked around for what or where it was coming from but saw nothing. This was really getting weird. But as I was about to go back to bed, I saw what would haunt me forever. Deep within the now oncoming fog were two shadowy figures that were standing next to a tree...and I couldn't tell what they were. They seemed almost humans cause of the human-like built they had on them, but their faces were hard to tell who or what they were. Yet, I noticed something that was even more inhuman about them. Their eyes. Their eyes were glowing within the darkness and the fog. They were staring right me. Like right me, they had their attention focused on me. A chill ran up my spine the more I kept staring at them.

I-I wanted to break away but their gazes kept me locked onto them. I wasn't able to look away no matter how hard I wanted to!

Finally I managed to break away from them and closed the blinds and curtains hoping they weren't coming here. Cold chills ran up my back the more I kept thinking of it.

'What...the hell...w-was that?!' I thought to myself, shivering in fear. Something wasn't right here. Something about my neighbors was creeping me out. I decided to go ribbed on it and try to tune it out. That wasn't the worst of it. At least...I hope so.

I met up with Janet the next day and I told her about my experience from the previous night. She let out a sigh of fear. "I had a feeling this would happen James. The neighbors are probably plotting their evil plan. But what though?," she said, resting her chin on her right hand. I would've given anything to be that hand right now. "Janet...have you ever had any bad experiences with those neighbors before?" I asked her. Her face grew pale at the question. She seemed liked that she'd had one before. But why, I've no clue.

"I did once...and it's one I'll never forget. I still replay it in my mind at times. God, why must they be so goddamn scary?"

Her sad frightened expression revealed a woman was tired of being tortured by the neighbors.

That night I tried to put the thought of seeing the neighbors out of my head until...I heard screaming from outside. But it was no ordinary scream. It sounded blood curdling. Like someone was being tortured. I looked out my window (even though I swore I wouldn't do that) and my jaw dropped all the through the floor.

Right outside Janet's house...I noticed that the front door to her house had been busted open. The door was torn off its hinges and I saw the lights to her house flickering on and off rapidly. I then what looked like a bloody hand on the window to her room. Was that...was that her hand? My heart was racing, I felt a dead chill going up my spine. Then...I heard her scream loudly in agony, blood curdling agony as the neighbors then mauled her to death. I wanted to go help her, I really did, but what good could I do?! What could I do?! What weapon could I use to save her with?!

Afterwards there was silence. Chilling silence. It was like I was in the eye of the storm where everything seems peaceful. But yet it isn't. My skin had goosebumps all around me. What I'd just seen would haunt me forever.

But just as I was now starting to take in what I had witnessed before earlier...a knocking came from my door.

I looked through the peephole and there outside my front door...was now the neighbors. My neighbors had now come to me...as their next target.
